Fowl and Fodder

Fowl and Fodder is a must visit if you’re in the Toledo area and looking for a unique and delicious lunch or dinner. The food is incredible, the menu delicious and ever surprising, and even the health-​conscious items are really tasty as well. Highlights of the menu for me have been the cuban sandwich (Even better on their homemade bread now) and Walleye Sarnie (In a town known for fried lake fish, it takes a lot to stand out and theirs definitely does). The tater tots with sirachup are also a must try, and are my go-​to every time I’m in.
As a local, I’ve had the pleasure of introducing several people to the restaurant, and the reviews have all been glowing. The only complaint I’ve ever gotten was the lack of seating at peak hours (particularly lunch) but their new to go ordering option makes it easy to pick up on the go and has been a godsend while working late some nights. Restaurant has always been clean, the staff friendly and helpful with the menu, but the real star is definitely the food.
Honestly, whether you’re a Toledo local, or just visiting for out of town, Fowl and Fodder is high on the list of must stop restaurants in the area. Be sure to try for non-​peak hours, but even if you have to wait a bit for a table, the food is well worth the effort.

Tumeric tonic is amazing. Walleye and salads are yummy. Service is good, but slow. Be prepared to wait or be in your laid back mode. Scott has a jem here.

A friend who lives in the area told me about this place opening up, so I decided to swing by and give it a try while I was in town. I think the restaurant has the potential to be quite good with some improvements, but right now it’s overpriced for what you get and an aesthetic nightmare.
My girlfriend and I ordered sandwiches: a cuban and a battered walleye, along with broccoli cheese soup and some pickled eggs. Overall, the food is tasty (in particular we liked the pickled eggs), but it isn’t cheap. For portions comparable to Panera, you are paying $ 12+ for a sandwich. And even though the quality is high, the menu is unfocused, generic, and boring. Fowl and Fodder offers the standard lineup of deli sandwiches and salads, including some built around ingredients that obviously can’t be local (avocados???). As a farm to fork concept, I expected Fowl and Fodder to showcase the seasonal offerings of Ohio, and I feel they really missed an opportunity there.
The restaurant is also ugly and has poor ambiance. The place has an open kitchen, but their kitchen is about as far from charming as you can get. Your view opens to various metallic machinery and surfaces, and in addition to hearing the noise of the bussers and dishwashers clearly while you dine, you are treated to a constant mechanical hum that permeates the restaurant. Honestly, if Fowl and Fodder built a wall between the kitchen and dining area, it would be a huge improvement. Beyond the open kitchen, you see the same pictures of pigs and «local» wordclouds on the walls that every farm to fork place seems to go with for décor.
I think that if Fowl and Fodder adopts a menu more in line with their concept and does something to improve the physical space, it could evolve into a very good restaurant where I would happily pay the premium for high quality food. But right now, I feel like I’m paying a lot of money for a lot of blah.

WOW! What a tasty treat. Went here with a group of 5, and everyone left very satisfied. We had soups, salads, sandwiches, coffees, teas, and smoothies. Everyone loved their food.
It is obvious this place cares about what goes onto the plate. It shows, and it tastes so good.

Delicious food at this adorable low key but fashionable spot! Options for all and a juice bar!

Excellent farm to fork restaurant. A bit pricey for some items. Please turn on the heat though. It is always freezing inside and limited seating including seats primarily by the door. Furthest from the door remains freezing even with sweatshirt coat n scarf

Almond crusted chicken was delicious. So good. The sweet potato chips were fine. The apple slaw was surprisingly delicious. I got the avocado juice and thought the celery flavor was too strong. Reasonable price, farm to table, solid choice people.

Family and friends really talked this place up whe we were home for the holiday so we took a chance. The concept really excited me since Toledo is a haven for chain restaurants. I wish I could say that it lived up to the hype. While the food was good it was a bit overpriced but I really take umbrage with the «locale fare» shtick that they hit you over the head with that feels very disingenuous when you look at the menu. With that said please tell me where they grow avocados, mangos and pineapples locally in Toledo. Or even sourcing walleye and pea tendrils in Ohio, in December! Why would does an Ohio restaurant specializing in Ohio food need an homage to the California sandwich?
The menu is tone deaf in seasonality and it feels like the local talk is more about raising prices and being trendy than actually embracing the bounty that northwest Ohio has to offer.
The food is good but overpriced and the shtick has to go.

This place is amazing! I wanted everything on the menu. Instead i got a grapefruit rosemary infused water with a warm squash salad that had mixed greens, squash, red onions, dried cherries, and bacon with an apple cider dressing. It was fantastic. My guy ordered the California chicken sandwich that i don’t recall exactly what it had on it but i managed to sneak a taste and it was also fantastic. He got a mango mint infused water and idk that i could choose a favorite. We also tried the pickled deviled eggs. In my opinions pickled eggs are just great no matter what but these, made w horseradish, and topped w bacon? They may have just ruined a regular pickled egg for me. We left full, both taking leftovers home. Nice staff, wonderful food, and a relaxing atmosphere. Excited to go back!

I chose to come here on a whim while I was back in town for a few days, and while scrolling through options, this local spot caught my eye and had great reviews. Not only did it live up to the reviews, but it exceeded my expectations as well!
There isn’t a lot of seating inside, but luckily we came at a time when it wasn’t busy at all and were able to get a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us a few good recommendations. I ordered the almond crusted chicken wrap which also has a spicy ancho pepper spread and a mango slaw on it. Wow. Hands down one of the best wraps I’ve ever had. The side of sweet potato chips were very good as well and a nice change from the usual sweet potato fries.
I’m glad these type of restaurants have finally started popping up in Toledo. I’ve been raving about this wrap to other people, and I wish I lived closer just so I could come here more often!

My husband and I came here on a Saturday night for the first time, it’s fun to try new places and be adventurous every once in awhile! I ordered the almond chicken wrap which was very good and spicy! My husband had the walleye sandwich and wasn’t disappointed! It’s a cute little place with great customer service. Our waitress was very nice and gave recommendations. We will definitely be back and would love to come for breakfast. The only item that we didn’t like was the tots. They were too mushy and spicy for me since I was already getting a kick from the wrap.
A bonus was the wall they have with friends names who supported the opening of the restaurant and our friend Theresa was on it

Tried Fowl and Fodder when I was home for Thanksgiving break — my best friend brought me to try it. We started with an order of Goat Cheese balls. They were delicious! And the sweet and spicy jalapeño jam they were served with was the perfect compliment to the creamy cheese.
We couldn’t decide between two different sandwiches that we both wanted to try, so we each ordered one and shared half. We ordered one chicken club sandwich and one pecan crusted chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were phenomenal. I ordered a side of their tots — those were the only disappointing thing I had at the restaurant. They were kind of mushy and lacked any real crunch, the sort of thing I like when I order tater tots.
I washed down my meal with one of their infused waters. It was delicious as well. This restaurant is in an unsuspecting location and serves up great food with friendly service. I will definitely come back the next time I am in town.

This place is stinking cute along with the staff. I came in and was immediately greeted by a very informative and friendly face, Lydia. She told me they’re most known for their sandwiches, so my response was, «What won’t get soggy in the next few hours?» Weird question, no doubt, but I explained that I’m flying out soon. I had interacted with three staff by the time I cashed out — all excellent.
Food wise, I recommend the Tumeric Tonic and Spicy Almond Crusted Chicken Wrap — it held up after two hours.

If you come here get the tots, but not if you are on a diet. They are fried buttery goodness.
The tempeh wrap I had was meh — a little too sweet BUT I like anywhere in Toledo that caters to the vegetarians of the town!

So why just 3 stars?
Unfortunately, I can’t get on the 5 star bandwagon for Fowl and Fodder as the Cuban Panini I received had delicious crispy pressed bread, but it had a minuscule amount of pork, ham, bacon and cheese. It was even light on pickles. The kale chips were very salty, but the server brought me out a fresh cucumber salad to replace it. Maybe I just ordered wrong as the meatloaf sandwich and some kind of wrap that my neighbors received looked plentiful. It was good but not $ 10.95 good. I do understand that local costs more, and I’m ready to fork over cash for quality. Unfortunately, I can’t shell out $ 30 for lunch (for 2 people) only to be hungry in 2 hours.
If do hope the restaurant continues to be popular and for those who feel the value = the quality, happy eating. Though, I probably won’t be back any time too soon.

Toledo needs more places like this! I grew up in the T but now live in Cleveland which is swarming with clean eating/​non GMO restaurants. It’s so lovely to see Toledo attracting delicious places like this! Highly recommend

Popped in for a late lunch today. Had to try the Korean BBQ duck sammich, kale chips, and mango mint infused water. That sammich is for sure one of the more exciting flavor combinations I’ve enjoyed recently. Kim-​chi, duck bulgogi, cilantro, and basil on a poppy seed bun. The ginger in the kim-​chi was unusually prevalent, which in conjunction with the cilantro and basil was, for lack of a better term, BOMB as fuck!
Note: I’m not sure whether the boldness of the ginger was a fluke just based on the kim-​chi I ended up with on my particular sandwich or if that’s pretty standard for their kim-​chi. If it’s the former, I seriously implore this lovely institution to consider working to make it the latter. I was loving the freshness of the cilantro and basil, but when I got that ginger goodness thrown into the mix, all bets were off! Loved that shit!

Oh my, yummy! Thanks to my Find Me Gluten app, we drive 20 minutes off the highway to eat here. So worth it! We prefer local restaurants and this was superb for the soup and sandwich genre of restaurants.
My granita and grilled onion jam grilled cheese sandwich on gf bread was scrumptious. It came with crisp, tasty in house chips. The big surprise was the absolutely delicious, fresh gazpacho! Thick and fresh, it had just the right amount of spice — just on the edge! Yum!
My hubby was delighted with his California chicken sandwich. It was a juicy breast of chicken with crisp bacon, pineapple, and avocado! His fava and ham soup was thick and very satisfying!
You can get interesting sounding, healthy smoothies, flavored coffees and infused waters. There was so much on this menu I wish I’d be around longer to try!

Sissy got a panini – she loved it.
BroAustin got the egg salad with a side of wild rice and duck soup. He said, «This bread is so grainy! (Good thing) I like bread like this for sandwiches.» He also said, «This egg salad brings back memories of the largest lake in Iowa.» He exuded a lot of nostalgia over the egg salad. All good.
I got the artichoke salad without cheese. The ingredients were all great quality, no bitter lettuce or soggy vegetables. The artichokes were supposed to have been marinated but did not taste like they had been. The vinegarette was alright but kind of acidic. Altogether the whole salad just lacked anything especially exciting or interesting. It wasn’t bad, just not great either.
I feel like I just chose the wrong meal. It was by no means bad. The ingredients were good quality and I loved that they were organic, seasonal, and locally sourced. I wished that they had more vegan/​veggie options. The only meatless sandwich was tempeh meatloaf which isn’t my scene really. I understand that the menu changes and I will totally try this place again to find something I love.
One thing I did love, and everyone else loved, and you will love – the tater tots. They’re incredible.

Kudos to Fowl and Fodder for using local, organic ingredients.
I wasn’t sure at first when I walked in you ordered at the register and they bring it out or if you were served. In case you’re wondering, they have a waiter who takes your order. He was very personable and helpful in making recommendations.
We ended up trying the duck tacos, tempura meatloaf sandwich, and the steak sandwich. I would highly recommend the steak sandwich– it was the best of the 3. The steak was thinly sliced and seasoned well. It does come with an over easy egg so be aware of that if you can’t eat raw foods.
The tempura meatloaf sandwich was full of flavor– it had a nice sauce on it.
My least favorite of the three was the duck tacos. The duck didn’t see to have much flavor and the taco as a whole seemed a little bland. I added a little of their sirachup sauce to give it more taste.
For the side, I got the Tator tots with the sirachup sauce. The Tator tots were good but the sauce was the best part of the side! Yummy sauce!
As for price and portions, it’s not the cheapest considering the small portions but since they’re using local and organic, I would say the prices are reasonable.
