History

Established in 1973.

Founded in Toledo, Ohio in 1973, The Collaborative is a private corporation owned by six major shareholders (the Principals) and five minor shareholders (Associates and Senior Associates). The firm is managed on a day-​to-​day basis through six employee-​run committees that focus on the areas of design, technology, professional development, process improvement, sustainability, and fun. Our services range from master planning to feasibility studies and programming; from design to construction observation. Our work has garnered more than 70 national, state, and local design awards.

Business Owner

Michael Muse is one of six Principals at The Collaborative Inc.

Michael’s design and construction expertise includes planning, programming, and design of numerous higher education, corporate and park projects. He brings a special emphasis in working with groups to explore options, and then build consensus amongst diverse constituents.

Michael’s attention to detail creates projects which excel programmatically, with thoughtful spaces and intuitive plans. His design eloquence incorporates simple, durable materials with an elevated sense of purpose.
