Excel Windows

I wish I could divide my review. Sales guy was Steve and he gets an A for effort, his time spent with us (on more than one occasion) and his knowledge. He was a pleasure from start to finish and if I was just reviewing my experience with him it would be a solid five. Unfortunately he doesn’t have much to do with the process after signing of the contract, and this is where things get a little frustrating for us. The second half of the process would get four stars. I have two areas of unease, but first the positive. The installers were accommodating to my special needs son, and were very nice. They worked quickly and efficiently, completing the job in two days. We also had some odd requests to avoid my sons exposure to paint and chemicals, all of which were accommodated with compassion and eagerness. The windows themselves are a great value, a huge improvement to our home, and a difference in efficiancy was immediately noticeable. Now on to the areas of concern. Our patio door comes with a scratch on the inside of the window between the panes. Not a reflection of excel, more so the manufacturer, but a hassle all the same. I insist we want a factory new door, and they must replace it. They eventually do, after many phone calls and some frustration, and in the end all is well, but I’m disappointed about the experience. My second concern is the very bumpy caulk job on the exterior. I’ve been inspecting friends caulk when I visit their houses and I’m contemplating calling excel to come and re-​caulk next spring. I will update this review if I do.
Udate: we were immediately contacted by excel windows regarding our dissatisfaction, and they will be coming out in the spring to fix the caulk I’m unhappy with. I’m impressed they took the initiative– So much less stressful than me calling to complain etc. I should also say that I tend to be a perfectionist. While many friends I’ve shown the door/​windows to said the caulk was indeed messy, just as many said «who cares? It’s caulk.»
Still, I’m happy they are addresing it and will update once they follow through in the spring.

Love my new windows that we just had installed. Sales team was great-​no three hour speech on how their windows are the best. Install team was great; they kept the area clean and were very respectful. Will be upgrading two more windows before winter with them.

Absolutely one of the best house improvement projects I have ever had done to my house. This company is a class act. We had Ray come out to give us a demo for a 3^rd quote. Honestly, we were pretty sure we were going to go with another company for windows until Ray showed up. He also requested we come to the shop to see the actual windows and not just the demos.
We replaced our windows in 3 phases:
1. Front Room (5 Casements)
2. Upstairs Bedrooms (6 double hung windows)
3. Kitchen and downstairs windows (4 windows)
We used another company for the casements only because of the color selection at the time.
The rest of the house was done with Excel and what a great job they did. Arrived promptly, worked fast and efficiently, and cleaned up perfectly afterwards. Trim work was stained by a painter they use and worked out great.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Ray and Excel. I don’t have a complaint on anything with any of the jobs they have done for me.
Nice surprise — my utilty bills have dropped!

I sat at the property for 45 minutes with no call and no show. After I called them I was informed that the estimator had not left yet. Just a phone call could have averted this situation. Not Professional! Also, they called me three times the day before to make sure I would be at the property. Three Times! But they were the no show no call.
A week after this debacle they called me again to ask what happened and if we could reschedule. They should spent more time getting to appointments and less time making phone calls and worrying about their customers keeping their word.

I received Top Notch service from Excel. I could not be happier with my windows. Extremely professional team from my sales representative to the installers. If you go with them you will not regret it. Great Company!

I loved the process from beginning to end and such a great deal. Ray worked with us to replace our 40 year old windows and he was very clear. There were no hidden costs.
We replaced 18 windows and they did all of the work in 2 work days. Ray knew I was expecting a baby and wanted the windows in before the baby arrived and they were installed right on time. The installation crew was nice and courteous and did clean up after themselves.
The work was great and very neat. I highly recommend Excel Windows.

This is how you should run a business!
A few months ago, we had way too many windows replaced. Eighteen windows! No, they weren’t out of style or anything like that, they LEAKED WATER. When we first moved in to our 1^st single family 7 years ago, we thought it was just the clogged gutter causing problems. We should have SUED our previous owner! It turns out the clogged gutter just make the *windows with totally failed seals* worse!
At first we laid towels on the problem windows before we left the house. Usually, we were fine. But then we noticed wall damage right below our 2 worst problem windows upstairs. We repaired the wall and the same damage reoccurred (Looking back that was not that bright without figuring out the cause first, I know). After the new windows were installed, I joint compounded the damage and it looks beautiful. No further issues. Excel told us they thought the water was leaking around the window capping and coming in and damaging our one wall without us even knowing it. (Whereas Lowe’s told us we needed new gutters, windows, and was trying to get us to look into siding too. Anything ELSE?!)
Every time it rained, we had to stay home or if we were out, we worried about what was happening at home. This is not the way to live! At first we thought it was a simple fix so we bought some weatherstripping and installed it on our difficult-​to-​use-​on-​a-​good-​day awning windows (picture window on the top 2/​3rds and crank out awning on the bottom ¹⁄₃^rd). Not only did these windows leak water they gave horrible air-​flow as well. The weatherstripping helped but they still leaked. We then tried caulking all the windows that we could reach on our 2 story home. Water still seemed to get through. It was so nerve-​wracking. We’d wake up in the middle of the night after the slightest rain drop and our heart would race. We’d think «Where are the towels?» My son got scared every time it rained. I can’t lie, so did I.
I gave up the day my husband was in the hospital with a life-​threatening condition after collapsing and I was at home with my son at 11pm at night manning the towels on multiple windows. Then the power went out! I had a flash light and could barely see where the water was coming in. That was the final straw!
I checked out Lowe’s and was very upset with their quality of Pella windows. Plus they gave us a loosey goosey price and didn’t even know if we needed a permit. I was about to drive to who-​knows-​where to check out someone else’s windows when it wouldn’t show up on the GPS. I thought «this is a sign». Then it dawned on me to check locally and I remember seeing a bench ad for Excel. Once arriving at Excel, I was greeted and instantly liked the show room. After meeting Tony and hearing how knowledgeable he was, I knew this WAS the place! Even when he said about $ 450/​window installed for vinyl replacement, I knew this was the best place we were going to find for money vs. quality.
I’m hazy on the details but they measured after we signed the contract and it took about 3 weeks to get the windows in. Then about a week later, I believe they were installed and it took about 3 days for installation. These were some of the most hard working installers I’ve ever met. They were sweating bullets and barely took a break. They worked long days. We were satisfied. We are happy that if our screen has a tear, they will replace a reasonable number for free. We were happy with the quick call backs and the professional secretary.
NO HIDDEN FEES on the final bill. What they said it would be, it was! We had no lead in our walls and he gave us 3 free rotten wood replacements, we didn’t have 1! Everything was measured perfectly and we were very happy to know that they solved another mystery: all the windows had failed seals & the exterior old window capping was installed backwards meaning water could leak in easily. They fixed this and caulked the exterior with silicone caulk BEAUTIFULLY.
The only room for improvement would be:
–we had only 1 pine window trim replaced and I would say the woodworking was a «B» grade installation. It doesn’t line up perfectly.
–Cleanup could have been better. One old window broke on the 2^nd floor trying to remove it. Of course in my child’s room. I still found glass once they left. There was glass on the roof and patio below, along with nails/​screws and other little bits. Besides glass, it was just ok cleanup. They worked so hard otherwise.
Believe it or not, I have 21 windows in my home PLUS 4 in the basement. If any of those windows need replacing, I will look up Excel again!
Now that winter’s here, we feel warmer and we hear much less outside noise than we used it. Nothing’s perfect, but what an improvement!
My family feels protected now & my son is still coming down from being paranoid about the rain. I wish we did it sooner. These windows were excellent $ spent in a bad economy where we can’t move easily.
