Westside Dance & Gymnastics Academy

All three of my daughters have taken many combined years of gymnastics and dance classes here, and we have never been disappointed. It’s a fantastic space with great equipment in the gym and several nice dance rooms. They do a big dance recital downtown every year, and the gymnasts can opt to participate in the Mini Olympics each year. Yes, your cutie WILL learn a lot, but what makes it really special is the STAFF. Every employee we’ve encountered, from the very helpful and ALWAYS friendly front desk receptionists, to the coaches that truly care about the kids and their learning, has been wonderful.
We’ve also used their Parents Night Out and Birthday Party offerings, which are both highly recommended!
No hesitation giving this facility Five Stars.

My daughter liked her gymnastics class that she did here last year so I decided to get her in to a dance class this year. Come to find out parents aren’t allowed in the class to watch and, unlike the gymnastics area, there is no viewing area to see the dance classes. I enjoy watching my daughter’s class so I can be a part of it and help her practice at home. If I am paying money for a class I should have every right to sit and watch my daughter.

Instructors are genuinely great and care about the students. The facility is certainly older and worn down. The view area is horrible for actually viewing the floor exercises. Our biggest complaint is the business end. Unfriendly front desk and poor recordkeeping. We were called because we «owed» money for a clothing item we purchased and for a month of classes that our child never attended. Don’t rely on the office staff to maintain records for you.

This is a review about the summer camp portion of this business and not the dance/​gymnastics or facility. The summer camp that visited the neighborhood Ibach park Tues ⁶⁄₁₈ raised concern with more than one parent also at the park. It appeared that there was a total lack of supervision. The teenager & two women ‘watching’ these children were paying very little attention & one lady actually spent the entire time looking/​playing on her phone. There were kids hanging out behind the bathrooms out of sight right by the parking lot and neighborhood pathway totally unnoticed by the adults. This is the most concerning aspect because it is very unsafe.
They seemed to be a good group of kids who were very nice to my kids but they were allowed to pour water and dirt down the slide making it unusable for anyone else. The adults sat at a picnic table ‘watching.’ When the group went to leave the adults did not pick up any of the multiple broken plastic solo cups used by all of the camp children. When asked if they wanted their cups her response was «they were already here.» Unfortunately they were now broken and no longer usable, but simply just litter. This is a terrible example to set for children.

The content and variety of classes for kids is fantastic. My daughter (5) has been going here for 2 years and taken gymnastics, tap, jazz, and is enrolled in rhythmic gymnastics, excelling and loving her instructors. More amazing is my son who originally tagged along with mom to watch his little sister. We enrolled him (8) two years ago in a basic tumble class and he has progressed beyond expectation. Doing hand stands, cart wheels, flips, rings, his balance and strength are fantastic which helps him in his other sports (football and basketball). Mind you my son is 4 foot 10 and weighs 80lbs for a 8 year old. Usually when growing so fast at a young age you deal with balance and strength issues but his classes have help out tremendously.
Why 3 stars? The facilities need a major upgrade. From the workout floor to parents viewing area to the bathrooms, to the ventilation…
But that should not stop you from enrolling your kids, content and coaches are really good. I’m just being picky with the facilities.

Good for lessons, better for birthday parties. Features a deep foam pit for spectacular leaps. Ventilation is poor and the main gym is a little stinky as a result. The parent observation deck has no clear view of the front 20% of the floor exercise area.

Fantastic place for a 4-​year olds birthday party! My granddaughter had her party there this weekend and it was perfect.
There is a separate party room for eating, cake, and presents. Then two staff members took the 12+ rambunctious kids down the gym for 45 minutes of play time. Adults could join in, or watch from the viewing area. Kids were properly tired-​out by the time to cut cake, so could sit and enjoy the moment. Staff had fun ‘princess songs’ to play while the kids were waiting between events. Staff members were cheerful and seemed to enjoy themselves throughout the chaos.
Highly recommend!

My husband took my daughter here for a four year old classmate’s birthday party and was so impressed!
The staff was friendly and organized coordinating the cake cutting, gifts, and activities. The area was safe with plenty of padding letting all the three and four year old jump and run to their heart’s content.
It was the perfect spot for a preschooler birthday party!
