BMW Motorcycles of Western Oregon

Bunch of very nice people who went out of their way to help me. They made me feel very welcome, and their service was just outstanding. The charges were more than reasonable and I am very happy with the work they did for me. I’ve been riding BMWs since 1979 (doing the math for how many years that is makes me nauseous :)) and have dealt with numerous dealers. These guys are top 5 of all time. I’ll gladly support them again in future.

They include their «freight and set-​up» into the price you see on the sticker. They are very personable and efficient. However, there are dealerships in Washington that do not charge freight and set-​up plus other things that make their (Pacific Northwest Motorcycles) around $ 1,500 less than BMW of Tigard. Just sayin’. If I can’t deal them down I’ll drive from Portland to Ferndale, WA, to save that much.

Stopped by last weekend –they’ve done a great job with the remodel. Place is nice and people are helpful.
This is a very classy dealership; the people are very nice and genuinely helpful, and the service department is awesome.
I’ve patronized them a few times, but last week was an extended visit to the Service Department, and I left feeling very impressed with their abilities and honesty.

My advice is to go to an independent shop for your BMW if you can arrange to.
Cheshire in SE PDX is a good choice.
Every time I take my bike to the BMW shop in Tigard I feel like I’ve been price gouged.
They find and do extra things with out getting approval and charge premium $$.
Each time I end up paying about 2X more than initially quoted.
Update: to be fair on my most recent repair they did agree to take off the charges for work that was not part of the mileage service interval — their mistake. This is the first positive I’ve had with them.
My whole experience with them started off badly. The owner would not even knock off
a few hundred bucks for a $ 13K new bike purchase back in 2010.
After failing to even get $ 1 off MSRP, I decided to ask if they would throw in the 600 mi check over for free. Again a no go. I have never been unable to negotiate the price a little when buying a new or used vehicle. I should have walked out, but needed a bike in short order.
It was a low supply factory lowered suspension model and I felt I had no other option but pay up, The owner could have built some good will with a new customer, but instead choose to stick it to me and get his full MSRP. Oh they did give me a free T-​shirt with their name and logo, so I could advertise for them. ha
They probably know their stuff and do quality work. but be prepared pay up.

I was traveling in July 2015 from Houston, TX to the BMW Rally in Billings, MT via my brother’s place in Washington state. After a week of riding to get up there I noticed my rear hub was covered with black dirt around the axle. Oh no, a rear seal going out and I had many thousands of miles to go.
So I called BMW of W Oregon and got Rick, the service manager. His first statement was «OMG, we are slammed and fully booked up for the next month!» Then he said «If you can get here first thing in the morning I will get you in.»
I was there 30 minutes before they opened and he signed me in. I was quite surprised when he called me after a couple of hours and said they were done!
Quick, efficient, friendly, and top priority to travelers coming through. I’m sure that delayed someone’s local bike from getting done that day (as has happened to me at my home dealership). But this is one happy camper (literally!).

So, I’m from Alberta, Canada and on my way to California, due to poor planning on my part I found myself in Portland in dire need of an oil and filter change. I rolled up to these folks at opening on Tuesday morning (aug 4^th). Despite their busy day planned out they seemed more then happy to get my s1000r in the shop and they had me on my way in just under an hour! They had a coffee for me as I waited and the friendly folks recommended routes I could take.

Being a recent transplant from somewhere else, and a big mile BMW rider, I gave these guys a call to have a tire mounted.
Imagine my shock when the guy who answered to phone said, «No, we don’t do that unless you buy from us.»
What? He went on to say it was a «liability thing.» I’d be more inclined to call it a «Price Gouging thing.» Never anywhere in the US have I been refused this kind of service, so I was speechless.
I will mount my own tires, and do my shopping for BMW accessories, clothes, and a new motorcycle at a dealer who appreciates my business.

I have been a customer for about 5 years. I have owned three BMW motorcycles and had them all serviced at BMW of Western Oregon. Jennifer in service is awesome and their parts people are incredible. Recently I had a problem installing a part and they patiently showed me where I was making a mistake. I highly recommend them for all your BMW motorcycle needs.

Spoiler: I apologize in advance for the the fan boy angle of this post, but for those interested any ways do read further to the details of why I respect this dealer and what they are capable of. Simply put — they have saved my bacon.
Shocked in a good way! They scrambled to aid my limping, broken bike last month when I was out on a fairly long ride with my wife two up.
The GS was fairly new to me (third owner) and not as mechanically there as I thought. We had the surprise mid-​ride of a chain roller wearing completely through and the chain then riding on metal. [This item is worth keeping an eye on as I could not keep riding enjoyably (though I am sure this part had 15k miles on it mind you).] To my complete surprise their helpful parts counter had the chain guide in stock! So, we headed their way after stopping for lunch (I was planing on replacing it quick in the parking lot since this bike actually has a great tool kit). Well, unfortunately my bike tool kit was missing the one particular tool… Inside, I began asking the service department if they would please lend me a wrench. Their hospitality was exceptional. They requested I roll my bike around and invited me to pull in on the carpet to work on. Before I knew it, my wife and I were watching one of their mechanic leap to replacement of the chain guide. As I was under the bike lending a hand, I realized the head of the mount bolt at the base of my shock was SHEARED off. The linkage had play and was flopping around. They had a replacement and took care of repairing that too!
I had been in their lobby before and been wowed by their flashy new and used motorcycle selection. Their on hand items to add to your tool kit really show they enjoy serving riders that know how to get down the road. I recognized some of my own choice tool box items that have proven their worth of what they have in stock. My previous visit was great too as I was excited they had my fork seals in stock…
In closing. at the end of the day I limped the bike over to them for the chain roller (just within an hour of when we arrived) they had my GS buttoned up tight and fit to rip down the road. I even happier when the fuel additive they sold me kicked in. My bike went from wanting to stall in the stop and go of traffic on my way in to purring like a kitten at idle…

If you are in the market for a new bike, I want Portlanders to «shop local», but I can’t bring myself to recommend this place for sales or service. I did some comparing of bike prices for a friend who wanted to buy herself a new bike. BMW of Western Oregon was very strict on their prices. You must pay this price and there is nothing you can do about it, no deals! I called one of the places up near Seattle. Same bike was the same price, but they were going to give her the BMW saddlebags for free as well as install them for free, which is like, more than $ 1000. Another thing, is you still don’t pay sales tax on the bike, if you are an Oregon resident.
As far as service, there had been a mistake in verbal description of one of my bills I got from them. My previous review of this place was actually quite poor, but since having spoke with the manager, he clarified more of what happened. So now I feel like the service is quite good. I don’t know if they are more expensive or the same as other BMW qualified service shops, but you can feel confident knowing that it was done right.

The worst. After a $ 600.00 service Did not tighten the drain plug and my back tire ended up covered in oil. Not fun (also potentially deadly). I was assured there was no engine damage, Why would there be. Motors are meant to be driven without oil right? Only offered to refund the service charge if I would sign a waiver on the spot. Beware.

So I want to ride motorbikes. Never done it before, but I am adventurous, or I like to think so. Well I got one little problem with trying to learn to ride. Well I have a few, but my biggest is the fact I am short. I have an inseam of 28 inches. So finding a bike is a little trying to say the least. So a few of my friends that ride just told me to do a few things 1) take the Team Oregon class and 2) sit on as many bikes as you can to find the perfect one. Okay so I am waiting to take the class, so I decided to use Saturday as a day of looking for a bike. First place I stop is BMWOR. They had demo days going on and I didn’t hold out hope on actually being taken care of. Well I walked in and started to roam about. First I thing I have to say is that it was well lit, smelled great (who really wants to be in an enclosed room with motor fumes?), and spacious. I could get between bikes and really take a look without the fear of knocking down 20 bikes that cost more than my car. Within a minute or two of being in the store a gentleman comes up to me to ask if I need help. Oh boy if he only knew. Anyways. I told him my little story. I am wanting to learn to ride, waiting to take the Team Oregon class, but needing to try on some bikes since size does matter. He says no problem, completely understood that I was not going to buy a bike that day. We tried multiple bikes and I never felt rushed and stupid for being a new rider. Nothing seemed to do it for me, but he took my number and said he thinks he has a bike that is perfect for me, but it isn’t in stock just yet. I am going to hold out hope that a perfect bike does exist.

lacking a legitimate BMW motorcycle dealer in Portland, many in the community had high hopes when BMWOR opened up here. Alas, reviews have been mixed. I’m reasonably happy with the staff and the mix of gear that they sell (the BMW clothing is very high quality and well priced for what it is). Parts have been hit and miss, they tend to understock and when you really really need a brake pad now it just doesn’t do to have to wait two weeks to order one, not in an era of internet sales. The service department is very slow and I’ve not had good results, so won’t use them again. No experience with sales, though they have an admirable selection of new and quality used bikes. They have interesting seminars on a regular basis which is a real plus.
Overall, I’m afraid this is a bit too much of the large dealer experience. i like them for clothing and their seminars, but not for parts or service.
