Hooper Camera & Imaging

Was in a mini-​bind and needed a charger and spare battery! Brian was great and got me exactly what I needed, and was super friendly and knowledgeable to boot. I’ll definitely be going back.

Went into Hooper today and spoke with Brian regarding a lens. Not only did Brian take the time to research my question, he then explained the components of it and other lenses. I’m trying to improve my skill and he suggested an author that he thinks I will benefit from greatly. I didn’t spend a single dollar today, but at no time did he make me feel like I was wasting his time. He remained enthusiastic and helpful the entire time.

Hooper camera sucks! Do not go here if you have the option. they don’t have a wide variety of equipment, the people there are not knowledgeable, and service is terrible. They almost lost my photos I asked them to develop and it took forever. They don’t have equipment past your basic necessities, and their lense rentals are shit. It’s one crap brand that you wouldn’t want to use. It’s really unfortunate it’s the only camera store in the area. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

I find them to be a little snobby and off-​putting. If you are new to a good camera, not amenable to a lot of questions.
I am on my third try for an enlargement of a particular photo that I ordered online. When I complained, Brian said, well, I haven’t seen the original! I said, yes, you have, I brought it in and said it was made too large. Obviously no recall on his part…
There online upload does not work with an iPad which is very unfortunate.

Super nice to find a specialized camera shop in the area. General electronic shops like Best Buy or Frys don’t cut the mustard with the pimply-​faced sales clerks. These guys know everything about everything.
Prices are quite a bit higher for equipment and film processing, but they have a pretty good stock of accessories that it’ll be worth your time to stop by.
Ask away. All your questions will be answered!

Brian, Ben, and staff are always so helpful. I’ve never come in and not been greeted with a friendly hello. I drive all the way from Simi to get my 35 mm film developed and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The woman who works there… totally blanking on her name… blonde hair, always helps me as well! Mariah is absolutely amazing! Sooo unbelievably helpful and patient. Always a go to for camera accessories/​help/​questions. They are so educated on cameras not only from experience but give honest opinions for lens.

These are the only folks in town who develop old 35 mm camera film. My daughter had an assignment for her photography class due soon and they turned around the film processing about as quickly as can be done out here. Dave and Brian were patient and courteous. I regret that I didn’t catch the young lady’s name who took the film in for me but also very nice and helpful.
I will undoubtedly return with other photography needs. It sure is nice being treated like a real person by folks who seem to really love what they’re doing.

I love coming here. The staff is just amazing, both Brian and Mariah take great care of their customers. a lot of people complain about the prices being a bit high, this is a mom and pop operation here show me another place in Ventura county that can still develop most types of film!
Plus where else can you rent lenses and lights in this area!!!
Wether it’s product knowledge or recommendations Brian and Mariah are full of them!

Although Hooper Camera did not have the lens we needed for our camera, even though their San Fernando Valley store said they had it, Brian and Mariah were very helpful and referred us to a competitor, knowing that we needed the lenses today. Brian actually made the call to be sure they had the lens we were looking for. We so appreciated the customer service, that we ended up buying a camera from them anyway. Very customer oriented. I would not hesitate to recommend doing business with them.

I need to get some photos for the renewal of my British Passport.
I initially went to Walgreen’s after checking online reviews. The person there said that they had the correct template to meet the UK passport specifications.
After checking my photos they were not correct and not with the parameters I required.
I then remembered about the camera shop in Thousand Oaks. Hoopers!
I called and spoke to a nice chap called Bryan, who knew what I needed and invited me to come by.
I went over the next day and he was able to take my pictures perfectly and they matched all the UK passport guidelines.
I posted (Mailed) my application that day!

DO NOT DEVELOP YOUR FILM HERE!!!
They clearly do not know what they are doing when it comes to developing film. I bought my sons Kodak disposable cameras to take pictures when their baby brother was born. We took the cameras to Hoopers to have the film developed and every picture is fuzzy and dark. The rooms the pictures were taken in were very bright so the lighting was not the problem. They charged us $ 50.00 for prints that are completely unusable. When my husband complained he said there was nothing they could do and that the negatives were dark. Well then they should have called to tell us that or offered a refund or discount. Terrible customer service! Total rip off! Will never go there again and you shouldn’t either!

I am a camera novice. I walked in and was completely honest that I was only going to browse, but wanted to know what I would need for my food blog. In my head the camera was going to be crazy expensive. When I told Brian what I was going to use it for he showed me a few options, and explained everything in words I could understand. He could have up sold me because I was expecting to pay a lot, but what he recommended was reasonable, and a bargain. I ended up buying after all. They offer free rental of a lens a week for a year, so I’ll be able to try out some other things to see if they are right for my purposes.
I love that it’s a local business and the staff is so knowledgeable. And the price was spot on! I’ll definitely be a long term customer!

Hooper Camera are the BEST camera stores in both Valleys (SF and Conejo). I’ve been going to them for years and have never regretted it. If they don’t have something, they can order it, or help you locate it. They teach you how to use your gear, guide you through digital world with the most up-​to-​date information and selections, and yet they never gave up on film so it’s the best of both worlds. With the recent trend of younger generations «discovering» film and older generations rediscovering it, they are the ready and able to help. The kind of personal assistance they give you is hard to find. Their digital film scans are fast and as good as anyone’s and their (from digital cameras or film) is top notch. I can’t say enough good about them!

Brian was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Some prices are a bit high, but worth it for the expertise and to support a local business!

I was having trouble focusing my Nikon so I called Hooper and got Brian. He gave me some recommendations of thing to try and said if they didn’t work to bring in the camera and he’d troubleshoot the problem.
Well I tried but nothing worked so I brought the camera in. Brian was helping two customers so I waited, he was courteous and efficient to the customers and acknowledged me and said he’d be right there. When he came he started checking all the settings on the camera. Other people came in and while he was alone he was able to multitask and take care of the new customers quickly and return to helping me. If he couldn’t fix the problem the camera would have to be sent to Nikon for about a $ 300 charge. He finally said he would try one more thing, and it worked. The camera now works fine and at no charge.
I have been in this store previously and have always been treated courteously and professionally even though I never made any large purchases. This time I didn’t buy anything and couldn’t be more happier with their service.
While some items can be purchased cheaper on line or in a big box store, I’m buying any future need from Hooper as I can always count on excellent service, which you don’t get at the other places.

Great service on professional lighting rental. Brian was super pro. They helped several people on bulk scanning and a variety of services while I waited. Recommended.
PS: after Id got back to the shop, we needed an extra framus… so, Brian while on his way to lunch, delivered it. Great great customer service.

These guys are experts.
If have been to several camera stores, and they are often very stuffy and cater to professionals. These guys can talk up or down depending on your skill level and are VERY knowledable about the product line.
Do they have every camera there? No
Do they have every price range? Yes
These guys seem to have 1 – 3 cameras for each price range and know a lot about each of them. They encourage you to touch them and if they don’t have one on display they will take one out of the box.
The other thing that is really cool here is the fact you can RENT lenses. Does everyone want a 1000 mm lense? Perhaps on occasion, but do we have the cash to drop on a $ 2000 – 5000 lense? No. These guys have a rent plan. I didn’t look into it but I thought that was nice for budding professionals.
This is where I got for all of our cameras and high end developing. Prices are good and the service is well worth the extra drive.
