Frost It Cakery

What makes a good bakery? Well the cake of course, but service, service, service also plays an important role.
In just the last two months I had the great pleasure of working with Rhonda over at Frost It for two events — work and personal.
Work: Retirement cake recreated from a photo we had — absolutely perfect. Better than the photo in fact! Also fit within our budget. She adjusted size accordingly. Lemon Cake with Raspberry Filling and for the large tier, Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Chip Mousse for small tier. Chocolate cake was moist. Lemon cake was just a tiny bit dry.
Personal: Baby shower cake with «Welcome to the World» theme — PHENOMENAL. She captured EXACTLY what I was looking for — with vintage looking luggage, coral color, and world. EXACTLY. Folks were shocked it was a cake and it stood up with the huge dessert table we had created for the recipient. Flavors were Chocolate cake with peanut butter, white cake with caramel, lemon cake with raspberry. Again, chocolate cake stayed incredibly moist. The white and lemon cake just a teeny, tiny bit dry, but the flavors were right on point. The «specialty» flavors are subtle — just enough to get you the taste, but not overpowering at all.
On another note, Rhonda was SO SO SO accommodating and responsive. That is so important when creating a cake for a special occasion. And I had a bit of an emergency with another dessert item which she saved the day with — quickly and effectively.
My son’s birthday is coming up, so I will be ordering from Frost It again. Yah!

Thank you Frost It Cakery for our BEAUTIFUL WEDDING CAKE !!! It was AMAZING!!! We went with a 3 tier cake; carrot cake, red velvet & vanilla bean! DELICIOUS!!! They also put together our dessert table with cupcakes, cake pops, macaroons & mini fruit tarts. Our guests loved everything! They also put together a surprise Dallas Cowboys grooms cake! My hubby loved it!!! THANK YOU to all the Frost It team that made our vision a reality!!! You will definitely be our go-​to bakery for all our future dessert needs!

I went to the store on Dec 26 to get some cupcakes. I even called before hand and got a message that they had new Christmas hours which were 10 – 5 on the 26^th and that they were busy serving other customers. WRONG! I got there and found a sign on the door that they had CLOSED THE RETAIL BUSINESS ON DECEMBER 24 and would only be available for consultations by appointment about wedding cakes. How inconsiderate to have not changed their message on their voice mail! I drove there for no purpose. I was looking forward to trying their cupcakes and leaving a good review. Having never tried their product I can’t say if they are any good.

Frost It did a fabulous job with my wedding. We chose to have a desert table that included a two tier cake that was gorgeous along with a variety of 5 different deserts. The cake was moist and delicious. I never had a lemon bar until at my tasting appointment and they are to die for. We also had cake pops (yummy), mini pies (delicious), macaroons (tasty) and brownie bites (delightful)!! Our guests raved about every treat chosen. Frost It will be my Go To place for all my future celebrations and events. Thank you Corie, Lesley and all the wonderful staff. You really made my day that much more special. You were all great to work with and your shop is adorable. Happy Holidays and have a very Happy New Year.

We could not be more happy with our wedding cake. It was GORGEOUS and even more beautiful than I had imagined. I HIGHLY recommended Frost it. Leslie is SO easy to work with — she was able to take into account my budget and design a cake based on all my specifications. She made the whole process super easy for me — I never once had to worry about the cake logistics because I felt confident that it was covered. Everything from the consultation appt (LOVE this adorable office!) has been picture perfect. You will love them. HIGH RECOMMENDATION!

This place is amazing there cupcakes are great and also there cakes are amazing and good prices i wanted to get a 4 inch monsters inc cake for my nephew at another store and it was gonna be $ 125 and i went here and they are going to do it for $ 45

Lesley at Frost It is truly as good as it gets. I called so many cake places and many of them wouldn’t deal with me because my cake budget was under $ 1k. Lesley didn’t care what my budget was, she set up an appointment for a private cake tasting, listened to what we liked and didn’t like and quoted us very fairly. We expressed interest in filling our cake with Asian pudding which is something Lesley and her bakers have never made before. She never once discouraged us from this unfamiliar ingredient, was in fact excited by it. Over time, Lesley and her bakers worked at creating the asian pudding with the perfect taste and consistency, had us come back to make sure it was correct then ultimately married it with her awesome vanilla cake and created an amazing lego themed cake for us! It wasn’t too sweet and was so tasty that many of our aunts and uncles asked if they could have the leftovers! We loved the entire experience with Frost It and would definitely recommend working with Lesley!

Before I go any further I want you to know my fiancé hates icing. He never eats it on anything. I am always the one to eat his.
First time I tried their samples were at a bridal show in Moorpark. They had a stand with a very elegant display and four different samples to choose from. I was immediately drawn to some of the display cakes. They were stunning and unique. My fiancé tried their vanilla while I tried their red velvet. I wish I recorded him tasting that sample. He looks so hesitant to try the icing with the cake but man, as soon as he did, his face lit up. He LOVED it. I still can’t believe he likes their icing, and only their icing so far.
Second time we tried it we went into their store in Thousand Oaks to set up a consultation for cake tasting and prices. During that time we saw some of their cupcakes out… We ended up getting six. The server was very friendly and seemed very warm hearted. I posted a picture of the cupcakes we got. All of them were amazing! My favorite two were the Very Strawberry (Strawberry cake topped with strawberry buttercream) and Cinnamon Roll (Cinnamon swirled cake topped with glaze and cream cheese frosting sprinkled with cinnamon). We also got Vanilla Bean (Vanilla Bean cake topped with vanilla bean buttercream and a fondant flower), Happy Cake (Classic white cake baked with confetti sprinkles topped with tinted vanilla buttercream and confetti sprinkles), Chocolate Chip Cheesecake (Devils food cake filled with cream cheese mousse, topped with cream cheese buttercream and mini chocolate chips), and Red Velvet (Southern red velvet cake topped with cream cheese buttercream and a fondant flower). We spent $ 20.50 for these cupcakes and they are well worth it! The only one I was not that big of a fan of was the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake. It was to chocolaty for me. But if you love chocolate, get this one!
Third time we went was the very next day to get six more cupcakes… Two of them being the cinnamon roll, and one the strawberry. We also got Chocolate, Boston Cream, and the Caramel Banana (Fresh banana cake filled with caramel topped with caramel buttercream, caramel drizzle and a banana chip). I wasn’t that big of a fan of the Boston Cream. The vanilla pudding inside made it taste off for me. We love this place though!
This last time we went was for the consultation last night to taste more options for cakes and see how much our cake would be if we decide to go with them. We got to sample a lot of different types on their cake flavors and man were they great! The consultation was very personal and we felt like they really wanted to bring out cake to life. My only issue was the cake we have in mind is over $ 1000 here when we have been offered the same cake for around $ 600 and that company’s cake tastes just as good… It made me feel that since I am having my wedding at a nice Venue and they know the venue, they wanted to charge me more… The consultant seemed to get excited when she knew the venue… But she was still super kind and I had a great appointment!

We were so happy with our Wedding Cake! In preparation for our June, 2015 wedding, we drove out to Frost It Cupcakery for a tasting. Lesley met with us, and was very easy to contact and accommodated our time restrictions. The array of flavors of cake and frosting were all delicious!
Although we were on a budget, Lesley went out of her way to present us with options that allowed us to have the cake of our dreams. She also took the time to get all the necessary details to coordinate with the rest of our wedding vendors so the cake would get there at the best time, and the event could go smoothly.
Frost It Cupcakery worked very well with our florist and the caterer, and ensured the cake was decorated with flowers in accordance with our wishes. And… the cake was absolutely delicious! Beyond just the taste the cake was tastefully done with a look of subdued and classic elegance. Even though we were pressed for time to make our flight out to our honeymoon, once we tasted the cake we took some time to enjoy it, since it was so tasty. Our guests loved it too!
Now, as we are looking at our wedding pictures, it is nice to remember what a pleasure it was to work with Frost It Cupcakery. They made every effort to ensure we were happy with our cake, and we are lucky to be able to see how it matched with the style of our wedding and recall with fondness how good it tasted.

My husband and I went in for a tasting with Frost It after having seen their beautiful cakes and cupcakes at a bridal expo. Lesley and staff were an absolute delight and we had the best time tasting, so we booked them for our wedding at Hartley Botanica! I knew I wanted a dessert bar and we were able to include brownie bites, lemon squares, mini-​cupcakes, and macarons. I kid you not, it was the most spectacular display I’ve ever seen. When I walked in and saw the display I was blown away. I rented all of the stands from them and had them set-​up and take-​down (would highly recommend). Seriously fabulous. Everything was a huge hit as well. I am not much of a cake eater, but thoroughly enjoyed the almond mini-​cupcake and lemon squares. Such a delight to work with such a professional baker and so talented. You should follow them on Instagram, you will be impressed with every post.

Overall I was incredibly satisfied with Frost it. We booked them for our June 6^th wedding and they provided us with a beautiful dessert bar! I regretfully did not try anything at the wedding but it was beautifully put together and everyone seemed to really enjoy the treats! Lesley was incredibly sweet and helpful throughout the entire process. She responded to my emails very quickly and I trusted her with some stand rentals since I could not personally pick them out and I was so pleased w/​how everything looked. If I’m being super honest, at our consultation I was not that impressed with the taste of the cupcakes, they were a little dry but overall it was a great experience and everything looked fantastic!

I checked into Frost It for my wedding cake at the recommendation of my wedding planner. Booking the consultation appointment was very easy and they were willing to work with my schedule. That and the very friendly service is the reason for the three stars. Corey helped us figure out what sort of design we wanted and was very patient with us. Which was very much appreciated! However, when it came to the cake tasting I was very disappointed. The cake was dry and mealy. And we had to pay $ 25 for the tasting — which was only four cupcakes. In the store they sell for $ 3.50 a piece. Seems like a huge wedding up charge. The nail in the coffin was when we got the quote. We are estimating 175 wedding guests and decided to do a very simple small three tiered cake and 2 sheet cakes. The total was about $ 1100. I was blown away. We have since found another bakery that will do it for half the cost.

The interior of this bakery is very cute! The service was extremely friendly and I was helped immediately. I bought four cupcakes: chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, and happy cake (looked similar to yellow funfetti cake). They were all amazing! Each had a moist cake with some of the best cupcake frosting I’ve ever had. My favorite was the red velvet cupcake, the cream cheese frosting was to die for (beats all other cream cheese frosting that I’ve had from other local bakeries). The location of this bakery is slightly hidden but it’s definently a place to try, their decorated cakes on display also looked amazing, I would definently consider ordering from them if I needed a cake in the future.

Rhonda, the owner, prepared a Divergent themed 2 tier cake for my daughters 11^th birthday and cancer free party. After battling cancer for a year, she deserved to celebrate! Rhonda got it, and put 110% into her cake. I found a photo of the type of cake we were going for and she nailed it. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Everyone gasped when they saw it. The cake itself was delicious. Rhonda responded promptly via email and called several times leading up to delivery to confirm some aspects and answer questions that I had. You will not be disappointed!!!

Frost it was wonderful! Their cupcakes are fantastic and so cute! I had them make my wedding cupcakes and a 6″ cake for us to cut and they came and delivered everything and set it up with all my decorations. I sooo recommend them!!! They were so great to work with!

This review is so long overdue!!! Lesley is absolutely amazing. Cupcakes are their specialty and they’ve certainly got some unique flavors. We came here for a wedding cupcake tower/​cake and Lesley helped make our vision come to life. Lesley was able to subtly incorporate our theme and colors into the cake so sophisticatedly that I just could not believe it turned out so well!!! They have beautiful and sturdy cupcake towers which you can rent (make couple places we went to had questionable styrofoam ones??) and they can set everything up at the venue.
We ordered almond, white, and red velvet cupcakes and Lesley was right on with her suggested count for the amount of guests as we only had a handful of leftovers. The cupcakes themselves were comparable to sprinkles but better as the sugar is not quite as sugary and overpowering. The cake is moist and I love that everything is fresh. The shop is open and specializes in events so don’t expect to be able to order huge quantities on a whim.
Will definitely be back for an anniversary cake :).

I stopped in late this morning to place a last-​minute order for a birthday party the next day. Given that my order was last-​minute And relatively small I did not expect A great deal of customization. However, I did expect to be greeted when i walked in the door (The store was empty with the exception of my husband and myself) and with some small level of customer service. I received neither of those things.
The young lady that was helping me had to continually ask her boss, (I assume this was the owner) for help with responses to my questions. I decided to leave once the owner yelled through the back to the young lady that she had two weddings tomorrow and she could not accommodate my request for customization on the icing. Rule number #1 of business follow a no with an alternative.
Example: i’m sorry, we cannot Icing the cupcakes the way you need them with such short notice. However, sounds like you’re going for a nice presentation why don’t you try…

They’re cupcakes are both beautiful, and delicious. The cake was moist and the frosting generous and tasty. These cupcakes are a classic design with cupcake on the bottom and frosting on top. No extra filling inside the cake, but I don’t think it needed it. The staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons: Though they have an «Irish Car Bomb» cupcake available as a speciality flavor on their website, the store was closed this St Patty’s day! I definitely wanted to buy some and was sad that I couldn’t.
Prices are reasonable for fancy cupcakes in Thousand Oaks/​Westlake area.

No complaints. Everything was delicious. This is your cupcake shop in Thousand Oaks!

I appreciate the minimalistic design of the store and having enough open space to move & look around. The shop is cute.
I love cupcakes. These, I don’t know… They looked nice, but there was WAY too much frosting on them. And the frosting was way too sugary (FYI: I love sugar, sad but true). I want a cupcake with frosting, not the other way around.
We tried the red velvet and the chocolate peanut butter cupcake.
In my world, red velvet cake comes with cream cheese frosting. This cupcake had more of a classic buttercream frosting on it. And — I feel the need to repeat myself — the frosting was way too sweet! The red velvet cake itself was too dry and not very flavourful.
I have to say, the chocolate cupcake was bland and also rather dry… The peanut butter frosting was good (though also pretty sweet).
In addition, I tried their brownie chocolate chip cookie (baked together). A great idea, very tasty. The brownie was moist and fudgy, the cookie tasted good — I enjoyed the combination.
I liked the boxes for the cupcakes and the store logo is beautiful as well (yes, these things matter to me).
I didn’t feel very welcomed upon entering the store. There was one employee talking to the only other customer in the store. The employee didn’t bother looking in my direction when I came in. Even after I greeted her, I did not get an answer. Only after she had finished serving the other customer, she even acknowledged my presence — but then she was very nice. Sorry though, a bit more multi-​tasking would do you well!
Overall, three stars.
