The sushi was amazing! It wasn’t very busy on the sushi side of the restaurant which was weird for a Saturday night. We ordered the gyoza(so good) and the chicken mushroom soup for appetizers. It took a while for the rolls to come out but it was well worth it! The Lobster Roll was great but not for the price. The spicy Tuna was very spicy but very good. Service was good and prices were great!

One of the best sushi places in the Gurnee area. Very good and fresh tasting. Highly recommend!

I’m a bit more used to Tsukasa and the golden sauce is my absolute favorite part of it all and I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu at Yuri. Food was very comparable and the fried rice was even better and the menu for main courses was much better

I can not speak really for the sushi(outside of a California Roll), as the times we have been here we have always done Hibachi. I usually order the Filet & Golden Shrimp. Every time it is spot on good. This past time, my husband ordered the Ahi Tuna… not that great. Tasted VERY fishy. Most dishes come with Soup, Salad, Rice, Veggies, and Ice Cream. As with all these restaurants… you get the whole dog & pony show with the onion volcano and flipping of kitchen utensils. The service is usually really good. Particularly one younger gentleman — the most attentive server I have ever experienced in a Japanese Steak House.

My husband and son LOVE their sushi(and hibachi) but my daughter and I only eat the hibachi and its fantastic. Their service is spectacular too. Tony is a particular joy to have, very personable and friendly, actually all of their chefs are. We’ve only had fantstic meals and love that its so close to us!

i would give this place 2.5−3 stars. it’s really not bad but compared to Tsukasa, i probably will go to Tsukasa. Friendly staff, good environment, and service was prompt. I like how in the beginning they give you a hot towel to clean your hands in. It’s a nice, Japanese tradition that many restaurants offer in Asia. I got the Mahi Mahi(hibachi) Entrée. It comes with soup and salad. Both tastes very similiar to Tsukasa’s. The Mahi Mahi wasnt bad. Fresh enough. It was a little on the heavier side of salt and butter for me. But other than that, not too bad. Side note(I’m always scared to order fish at restaurants during the week when i know they dont have a lot of customers. Nor do i get anything fried or soak it in sauce when ordering seafood. It ruins the natural sweetness of the seafood itself.) One thing i noticed was the bean sprouts was kinda sour. It seem like he poured a bit too much vinegar in it? It had that strong vinegar taste. But i dont think anyone uses vinegar to cook bean sprouts? You dont get that nice, crisp crunch when biting into it. It obviously has been in the fridge for a few days. I did NOT get sick but my instincts told me to stop eating after the first bite. The fried rice wasnt bad either. But it just lacked a flavor that just made tsukasa’s fried rice taste better. The teppanyaki show is just as «entertaining» if you are going there for that. Tsukasa’s just have a couple more fancier things. I feel bad for comparing two restaurants but it’s kinda hard not to when both serve very similar menu items. Honestly, i will go to Tsukasa if i want Teppanyaki again. I like Tsukasa’s upscale environment, huge dining area and the food. As for prices, they are about the same. $$$

Food was good. The last time I was there it was my mom’s birthday. We did not mention it to anyone but the waitstaff must of over heard us talking. They brought out a small fruit dessert which I thought was really nice… that is until I saw that they put it on the bill! Really? We hadn’t even requested it. Well no matter how good the food was we will not be returning.

Very underrated sushi here. This is my go-to sushi in the area. Great quality with creative high quality rolls along with all the classics at a very reasonable price. They have hibachi but I alway walk by and go with the sushi. «See you tomorrow»

I would like to base my review on the sushi portion of the restaurant. The quality of their sushi is fantastic! One of the best sushi places in northern lake county. I have ordered the 911 roll, spicy Tuna rolls, eel, salmon, and all sorts of specialty rolls and of course saki. The staff is amazingly friendly and fun and the owner says«see you tomorrow!» Every time.

I’m from China and always a fan of Asian food, including Japanese food. In my standards Yuri of Japan is a really good place. They have nice staff here and the food portion(teppanyaki style entrees) is HUGE. i am a girl and i was here with five guys. none of us finished our food. The entrée comes with soup, salad, a side dish, veggies, one meat, and one ice cream. I was already full before the meat was served. The dressing for the salad is sooooo good that my bf drank all of it… the veggies is fresh and the meat is prepared well. Good place to get together with friends/family. I don’t live in Illinois but next time when I visit I will come back here for sure!

It’s entertaining service and good food. The prices are what to expect from this style of restaurant. The soups and salads are very good, and the appetizers tasty. The one star reviews crack me up — complaining about knowingly using an expired gift card and being denied? Complaining about appetizers you could make yourself? Neither of these merits a one star review and should not be considered representative of what is truly a good restaurant.

This is our«go to» spot when the mini-me’s ask for Japanese and we need something closeby. While the food /service isn’t unforgettable, it’s decent enough that we keep coming back — read on for details. ATMOSPHERE: Meh… it’s dark, with 6 or 7 teppon(cooking) tables. The floors are black(ish) carpet, and the bathroom floor tiles for some reason are always sticky(makes me think someone poured teriyaki on the floor). Outside that very appealing portrait, the décor is what it is — kitzy japanese, they could do a world better to improve it’s appeal. Thankfully we don’t go for the ambiance. FOOD: Speaking ONLY for the cooking tables(reviews of the sushi, which I don’t eat, are scary :), the teppon /hibachi style food has always been more than sufficient for our needs. While I won’t say it is mind blowing good, it’s always been satisfying, and as good or better than other local suburban options(at a far less cost, especially with the coupons they frequently offer). SERVICE: Generally lacking, as most teppon places are. The hostess, no matter HOW busy they are, will tell you it’s only a 5 minute wait to be sat. Sometimes this is right, and most times it’s more like 30, but hey, who’s counting. The wait staff is adequate, not friendly, and most of the time efficient VALUE: Dismal. There wasn’t a thing on the entrée menu less than $ 16.00, and I have no idea who came up with such expensive prices for the food they’re serving. If I were the owner, I’d be embarassed to hand out the menus with this obvious price gouging. A dinner for 4, with 2 children(!!) and sodas cost more than $ 60.00, before tip, which we opted not to leave, other than this review. Unbelievable, really.

Great food. Reasonable prices. Very good service. They could benefit from more atmosphere like private booths with rice paper doors or having the female staff wear kimonos :-). To me these types of places are as much about atmosphere as they are about food. I would say that they have great potential and if good food and friendly service are what you are looking for then Yuri of Japan is a great find. Tony makes the experience great but IMHO the atmosphere needs a little something more.

I’m surprised at the negative reviews! I lived in Grayslake for a year and went to Yuri many times. Always had great service and great sushi. I think it is much better than its stars on Unilocal reflect.

I’m not sure what they did… but after several visits, the quality of the food here has gone down hill. The sushi is not as fresh as what one can find at other places. Their all you can eat sushi, in my view has some quirky hitches with it, so make sure you read the fine print for the owners are unforgiving. Also, even when they are not busy, the sushi takes and extremely long time before it comes to the table. Granted, this is somewhat of a given, but here is seems to be «extra» long. You’ll not see me checking in here again and I’ll be taking my business to Bento Café.

I went to Yuri with my husband for a quick, close 2 home, bday dinner with out our little sweeties. We usually go to the Japanese steak house in vernon hills, so i was expecting a smaller version of that. I made reservations for 2, but our friends surprised us and the restaurant was very accommodating. They moved us to a different table with smiles. Each of us had hibachi dinners and sushi apps. The sushi was tasty and fresh, but cut uneven. The steaks were cooked perfect and my chicken teriyaki was good. My husband thinks that the portion could be a little larger. Its clean, no frills good food. We plan to go back with the kids since its so casual. Kinda reminds me of Tsukasa before they moved to the new place. Wish they had more than one stall in the ladies room.

Maybe I’m being biased as this is my friend’s restaurant, but their sushi is oh soo yum! I haven’t really tried anything other than the sushi, but I would definitely come back to try other things on the menu, but it’s just so far :/
