The Home Depot

I’m probably going to keep this one short since I don’t have a lot to say about this store except that some associates are legitimately knowledgeable about their products and some just don’t know what they’re talking about but just agree on everything you say and they normally just nod and say «yes». You can normally tell when they have no idea what they’re talking about. Overall, this store is an OK place to shop if you know exactly what you need and where to find it. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this store to people that are usually DIYs and have questions about what they are buying because it’s really rare to find someone that legitimately knows what they’re talking about. Also, one more thing. Their phone service is terrible. I’m normally put on hold for more then a few minutes and when they can’t seem to get ahold of the person I’m trying to speak too, they usually just hang up. It’s really bad.

One of the comforting things about Home Depot is that they all pretty much look the same. The pros about this HD is the back exits so you can get in and out quickly from Memorial Drive. We bought a new washer/​dryer from here and the Sales Associate was helpful and really spent time talking about the pros and cons of the models we were considering. Their delivery was on time and the delivery drivers helped moved them exactly where I wanted.
This store has a nice holiday section with plenty of items to choose from. The cons for me in this store are the limited items in lawn & garden. That might just be a regional & season thing so I will have to wait until spring. But even their indoor plants left a lot to be desired. Finally, the way the store is set up, I couldn’t find a checkout lane with a real person in it. I had my arms full and didn’t want to trudge all the way back to Lawn & Garden. They do have quite a few self-​checkout lanes that were up front and center. There was a line to use those so there was a few minutes of wait time. More disappointing was the Sales Associates just milling around the self-​check out areas, instead of directing overflow to wherever it is they hid the full service cashier lanes. If you want to use the military discount, you can’t do that in the self-​checkout lane and need to call the attendant (good luck with that).

I visited this location on a hunt for «C» clamps or something like that. I needed about 30 of them to help hide Christmas lighting cords outside. When I entered, I have to admit… I had no idea what I was really looking for. This location at this time was very busy, it seemed every staff member was assisting others… so I went on the hunt myself… After a few mins (30+) I finally found someone and explained what I was looking for and the purpose… I did get her name, however when I politely explained what I was looking for… she did not turn around or make eye contact with me… I thought I had upset her for asking. At first, I had to double check if she even worked there. yep she did. Without her looking up or at me, she told me to go check on isle 42. So I went… AND found what I was looking for. She may have been tad rude, but she knew her stuff. So, Thank you… whoever you are.

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. Along with investment banker Ken Langone and merchandising guru Pat Farrah, the founders’ vision of one-​stop shopping for the do-​it-​yourselfer came to fruition when they opened the first two Home Depot stores on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. The first stores, at around 60,000 square feet each, were cavernous warehouses that dwarfed the competition and stocked 25,000 SKUs, much more than the average hardware store at that time. Empty boxes piled high on the shelves gave the illusion of even more product.
From the start, associates were able to offer the best customer service in the industry, guiding customers through projects such as laying tile, changing a fill valve or handling a power tool. Not only did store associates undergo rigorous product knowledge training, but they also began offering clinics so customers could learn how to do it themselves. The Home Depot revolutionized the home improvement industry by bringing the know-​how and the tools to the consumer and by saving them money.
According to Bernie and Arthur, the customer has a bill of rights at The Home Depot, and this entitles the customer to the right assortment, quantities and price, along with trained associates on the sales floor who want to take care of customers. Their philosophy of customer service — «whatever it takes» — means cultivating a relationship with customers rather than merely completing a transaction. As Bernie says in Built from Scratch, «At the end of the day, we’re in the people business.»

David from Home Depot was very friendly and fully assisted us throughout our visit. He knew almost every product by heart and was very funny. Definitely coming back!

Seriously, fuck you. We know we don’t know what we’re doing, THATS WHY WERE HERE! We don’t need your condescending attitude. The only reason I’m willing to give even one star is because there was one women who was kind to us. Other than her, we had to wait forever for a guy who never even showed up, then get told all the different ways we were wrong by a crotchety old women. My girlfriend was nearly in tears from frustration. I’ve never caused a scene and have never come closer than today.
Awful customer service.

Our refrigerator went out the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The following Thursday my husband and I went and bought a new fridge from this home depot. I should have known something was up because before we went to that location I called to make sure they had the same fridge for the same cost as the Frisco store. Then man in the appliances department assured me they did after I gave him the model number. Well when we got there they did have the fridge but for $ 300 more. The man I spoke to was there and I asked him why he told me the cost was the same. He said «oh $ 998 or around there». I didn’t ask for around there and $ 1298 is not around there. They did eventually call the Frisco store and price match. Then we told them that we needed it as soon as possible since we were without one. They said delivery was $ 69 and is usually delivered in 48 hours. We said great sign us up. We were going to go with Sears because they could deliver us a brand new fridge by Saturday but we liked this one better and figured since it was a floor model getting it in 48 hours shouldn’t be a problem. But then we found out that the $ 69 delivery is just to get it to the outside of your door. It is actually $ 120 for delivery and install. Now for the most frustrating part! The sales clerk told us that with installation they have 48 hours to call us to set up a delivery time but it is usually the next day. Awesome, no problem. Wrong! They have 48 hours to call only on business days. The guy told us someone would call us by Saturday. When I called Home Depot on Saturday to find out why we haven’t gotten a call a girl answered and when I asked her she told me to hang on because she had just gotten back from lunch and hadn’t clocked in yet. Then why answer the phone? She called the delivery company which is not Home Depot even though they rent trucks!?! And they told her they only call during business hours which is Monday through Friday. So now it is Wednesday and the delivery guy was supposed to be here between 2:30&4:30. I called the delivery guy at 4 pm to confirm he would be here by 4:30 as we were told. Nope! He just got to his other delivery and still has to go to the store to pick up our refrigerator then bring it over here. Had we have known all of this we would not have gotten a refrigerator from Home Depot. If you are in need of a new appliance and need delivery I would suggest going with a company that doesn’t hire outside contractors. We are very Un satisfied with the whole experience.

I love coming to Unilocal and braging about some of the places I’ve been to and the experience I’ve had. Unfortunately this is not a brag and I’m so upset about it that I refuse to keep my trap shut.
The customer service at this store is awful and has been on more than one occasion. I jokingly realized the only way to get help is to show up after work in a skirt, otherwise, forget it. After this last incident, I will NEVER shop at another Home Depot.
Here’s what went down with my dad:
On Saturday May 28^th my father stopped by to purchase 20 bags of topsoil and five bags of mulch on my behalf because he has a truck. He assured me that he wouldn’t have to lift these bags because the store has people who can provide this service. I didn’t want him lifting this much on his bad knee.
When he arrived the store wan’t terribly busy and he saw several available employees in the garden center. He approached one and let him know what type of bag goods he’d need. The employee said they could take care of that at the register. My dad then picked up a bottle of Round Up then went to the cashier. After paying and pulling around; there was no one at the loading zone. My dad went back in and found the originally employee and the employee said he’d call for someone. Several minutes passed and still no one showed. My dad then went to the cashier and asked for a manager; again a no-​show. Instead, a mentally challenged man came out to help load. But when he arrived was he was very confused and seemed disoriented. He helped my dad load 2 of the 25 total bags.
When I heard about the situation I called the manager on duty Rob. I explained the situation and that my dad didn’t bother to take down any employee names. His intent wasn’t to get anyone in trouble and he thought he’d be speaking with a manager during his initial request to the cashier. What I learned from Rob was that he was never paged and seemed less than interested in doing anything about the situation without having a specific employee’s name. A true manager would have at least offered to address the situation at his next staff meeting. I also raised concern about the mentally challenged man the other employees sent out to load the bags. Rob explained that that was his job. My concern is that either he was not being properly supervised or was somehow confused by what was being asked of him at the time and therefore not the best candidate for the task. I am a supporter of companies who employee the elderly, mentally challenged and offer a diverse employee base, but employees must be properly led and put in a position to succeed. Why wouldn’t any other available employees step up and lend a hand or take the initiative to go out and help after the second request? I’m sure it was a case of «that’s not my job».
I will be happy to go to Lowes from this point on.

Very pleasant experience at every visit to this store.
I have a lawn trimmer which was not running well after 2 years of purchase… I took it there and one o the crew. Gerry… took one look at it and said it there was too much Oil in the gas-​oil mixture.
Sure enough, I got home and refueled it and voila. it worked.
Friendly and expert… rare combo!

Nice ppl… Prices are better than the Loves in Frisco. Love this place…
