I have gone for pie and for lunch. Both have a good reputation. I have found both lacking.

We stopped by here on our way through town wanting homemade pie. I found them through a Unilocal search for pie and we weren’t disappointed! We got chocolate, strawberry and peach pies. The chocolate had a meringue topping and the fruit pies had a whipped cream topping. She even gave us a couple free slices when she heard we were on a roadtrip. Great pie and customer service. We will stop by on our next visit through Texarkana!

Their food is run of the mill homey and delicious. Admittedly the hamburger steak here and the Japanese hamburger steak are quite different but my innocent little head thought I was getting the ‘ham-bahg steak’ that I grew up with. As different as it was, it was still quite delicious. The mac and cheese was cheesy, the creamed potatoes were creamy, and if I had ordered the green beans, I’m sure they would have been quite green. However, the highlight of the trip was definitely the dessert. They come around with trays, tempting you before, during, and after the meal, of whatever pies they have that day. The day I went it was buttermilk pie and peach pie. And with that whipped cream piled up on it who can resist! It’s not to sweet, the crust is flaky, and just divine. mmMMM! Prices are good at under $ 8 a pop for lunch, and the pies are $ 3 a piece.

Seriously rockkin’ dessert here. Don’t miss the homemade pies! Butterscotch and chocolate pies homemade, then incredible fried pies, brought in from a local miracle bakery. A coworker swears by their cheeseburgers, but I was trying to keep it healthy and had a salad with grilled chicken which was nothing special. I honestly think it’s their dessert that makes this a standout spot. Would return for all day breakfast and wouldn’t leave, as I’ve insinuated, without an awesome dessert.

No frills local joint– prices reasonable– we got the small catfish lunch plate which comes with two sides(fries, coke slaw, turnip greens, pinto beans, house salad or creamed potatoes) for 8 bucks. Soft drinks were $ 1.79. The fried cat fish was well done– crispy salty exterior moist interior. The salad was small and simple consisting of ice berg and chopped tomato with a dressing package. The turnip greens and pinto beans tasted home cooked– nothing fancy but good nonetheless. Service was adequate although they don’t greet you when you come in so if you don’t know to seat yourself the locals look at you like you’re an idiot…
