Love love love this place, square donuts are a must every time I go down to Terre Haute. They only make a certain amount every day and when they’re out they close. My favorite are the original glazed donuts and the Boston cream.

Hands down! The best donuts I’ve ever had! It melted in my mouth and every bite was heaven! There is no comparison with Voodoo Donuts in Oregon or Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts anywhere! I’m craving all the way here in FL. Square Donuts is ONEOF A KIND! SIMPLYTHEBEST!

After my wife had been bragging about this place from her childhood & hometown for years, we happened to be in town & stopped in. We arrived at around 11:30a on Mother’s day, and as it happens, they had almost run out and had only 11 donuts left. They were closing up, we took 5. After eating one right away in the car, I can see why she has loved this place forever. Their donuts are softer & more tender than that KK donut place and had a better flavor, without all the sugar to cover it up. If you’ve never been here, it is a «must stop» when you get the chance. Come early though, or you might get left out of the lucky ones.

I am probably the last person to evaluate a donut(in general, I eat too clean and rarely consume donuts), but as a Terre Haute native who occasionally visits, I feel compelled to throw a few kind words towards this noteworthy shoppe. If you live with the theory«save your calories for the moments that count,» consuming a Square Donut… or two… or three… would fall in this category. Very mid-America, very small town, very traditional, very welcoming. Ambiance of shoppe is basic, simple, Midwest. Donuts are fresh, fresh, fresh. Taste is sugar, warm, soft, simple(I say warm, because you have to get there early in order to get any of the high demand varieties, like the tractor tires). Tractor tires and chocolate frosted with cream inside are really my personal favorites. These are real deal donuts. Not some fancy schmancy high end shop… real deal basic donuts the way they should be. Square Donuts has been a Terre Haute institution since I was a kid and I am glad to know it has survived the test of time. Cash Only!

I must first preface this by saying that I have never set foot inside Square Donuts or paid for anything from here, and both of those things likely alter my review. I do, however, eat a Square Donut every Friday, when they are provided free at work. And these donuts have never let me down. My favorite are the jelly-filled donuts and the ones filled with chopped apples. It seriously tastes like an apple pie donut. The traditional glazed donut is good, as is whatever they call a crueller(tractor tire? OK, Indiana). I know they sell out quickly and people have been bringing them to morning events for years. I can’t complain about free donuts, but these are pretty darn good. I’d rather have a Square Donut than any other donut.

I love that these donuts are a normal size, and they were really delicious. Too sweet for my taste, but that’s just about right for most peoples’ tastes. I was asked what I wanted right away, and panicked and just ordered a couple obvious things. I’d urge you to take your time because they have some really interesting donuts. If you’re used to crème filling on the east or west coast, you’ll be expecting a custard filling when you order one of those donuts. It’s not going to be custard, it’s like a lighter, less sweet white cake frosting type of filling.

The peanut butter and jelly donut is my fav. It is a fresh donut with a peanut butter glaze on top and jelly inside. I love that the donut it self is not very sweet, you get the sweetness from the frosting/glaze on top it all balances out .I always find other donuts overwhelming because the donut, frosting and filling are all sweet. Here’s a few plus about this place: the price is right & There is always a nice lady behind counter. ps. make sure before coming here you get cash. atm/credit cards not accepted. My fav donut place! Wish we had one where I’m from.

I’m pretty sure I «invented» the apple donut they have. More than once, I’ve mentioned they should have one a long while back. I even mentioned putting cinnamon on top and using apple pie filling. I have to admit I was envisioning the«cinnamon and sugar» with granulated sugar like you typically see on a cinnamon twist. However, given that the icing is one of the best things about Square Donuts, the approach they took with it is spot on. While I love the apple, I have to say there isn’t a bad donut in the mix. I personally think the iced donuts are their«claim to fame», I know a lot of people love the plain as well. If you happen to be in Terre Haute, you absolutely must seek out this local favorite. You’ll soon learn why this place has earned the prize for«best donuts ever» for over 50 years.

I LOVE their donuts so much! I don’t live in state anymore, but whenever I visit home, I make sure to get a dozen donuts from here. The pink iced cream filled ones are the best. Their prices are very reasonable as well. If you are in Terre Haute, you must try Square Donuts!

These donuts are pretty good and definitely not too hard like some other places. I don’t know that I’m as in love with them as some other people seem to be, but I do enjoy them quite a bit overall. As for the actual location, I’ve only been there a couple times, and the main thing I’ve taken away is that they run out of some items pretty quickly. So if you want some particular type of donut, it’s probably best to get in there sooner rather than later.

Absolutely delicious!!! My husband’s family lives in Terre Haute and anytime we stay overnight we are always treated to Square Donuts in the morning. So good!!! I’m torn between wanting square donuts where I live, but I’m kind of glad there isn’t one around or I would be so sugar filled every day from eating these all the time! :-) Definitely get some of every kind to try if you’re around! So so so good!

Square Donuts traditional glazed square is absolutely the best donut I’ve ever had. Always fresh and smelling of delicious yeast and yummy glaze(not too much — just right amount). There other donuts are just as good and will not disappoint anyone.

Having grown up in Terre Haute, I have fond childhood memories of Square Donuts. I hadn’t eaten them in a decade, so I was eager to try them again as an adult during a recent trip back. They lived up to every positive hype in my head. The plain square glazed are my favorite, but I love how the ladies will comply with requests to add maple or strawberry topping to the glazed donuts. The pace is frenzied, but the ladies who work here are lovely and patient while taking your order. Go early as the donuts sell out(on weekends sometimes by 10am). They do have a few interesting flavors(peanut butter topped jelly filled, apple pie filled, lemon, caramel…) although nothing really daring. For me, the plain glazed are a work of art. While not as silky smooth as Krispy Kreme, the almost-crystallized sugar glaze is superior. Note: more than two may induce a sugar coma. At $ 7/dozen(or 70cents /ea), it’s easy to get carried away. Best value for an unbeatable product!

Square Donuts are the BEST donuts in the world! The Long John is my favorite: a yeast donut with yummy chocolate icing and cream inside. It is the best thing — despite it’s sexually explicit name. it’s the best donut I’ve ever had. Cake donuts with white icing or clear sweet icing are that crisp outside-chewy inside delight that anyone who loves donuts will appreciate. And, as Pamela V. says, it’s cheap(75 cents), cash only, and thank God I don’t live in Terre Haute, I’d be at Square Donuts every morning. Tips: Get there early or the best ones sell out! Skip the watery coffee. Nothing like a cup of Java Haute to go with a Square Donut!
