Hansen Vineyards & Winery

This is my husband’s favorite winery. While we were up visiting our friends in SLO, we decided we’d go wine tasting. Since my husband was so excited about Hansen, we had to stop here. The look on his face as he arrived was like Christmas came early. I’m pretty sure I’ve got wifey points to last.
When we arrived on a Saturday at 2ish, there were no people other than the owners and the people who worked there. This proved to be interesting. I should’ve known if my hubby loved this place, it was cab heavy. I can’t do cabs because there’s some enzyme in them that gives me an instant headache, no matter how expensive and wonderful the winery. I abstained from all cabs for this reason. So I tasted the zinfandels.
They don’t have buckets to dump wines. Let’s be honest, wine drinkers are in a couple of camps: actually taste and dump or drink it no matter how badly you hate it because it’s wine. I only tasted the zin’s but it would be nice if they maybe swished your glass with some water to clean it out between pours. Whatever, the girl gave me chips and wine without charging me. I was ok with that.
The very cool thing was the owner, Bruce, took us back behind the scenes. This was the funnest experience. We were invited to taste out of never opened barrels and metal barrels. We were able to see how they lifted wine barrels, how they destemmed grapes and all that fun stuff. Bruce kept asking us girls to taste the grapes, to pose with everyone and generally have fun. We hung out for a couple of hours and had a blast. The entire experience felt VIP and for that reason, I’m giving it 5 stars. I’m more of a girl who enjoys the Napa wines, but you will get a personalized and very awesome experience here. My husband of course ended up with packages of wine to go home, so I’ll enjoy his delight with this winery.

You HAVE to come here for wonderful Cabs and relaxed conversation in an intimate tasting room. Bruce Hansen, the owner and winemaker will greet and pour if he’s not out in the vineyard. If he’s busy, Cami will take great care of you.

People. You have no idea what you are missing.
Bruce Hansen has the best, the best, the best Cab in the land. Cab like you would want all your Cabs to taste. Pricey — not when you have paid a lot more for Napa and Sonoma Cabs which are inferior to Hansen.
The bonus is the show that Bruce performs when pouring. We tasted 8 Cabs during one tasting with a revisit of each of them. Holy smokes, I was getting very happy.
Then Bruce invited four wine club members and us back to the barrel room for a tasting of four barrels of one vintage. Each barrel had a distinctive difference in the amount of aging that the staves had gone through. We did not accept the invitation, but Wendy and Del B. went to the barrel room where Bruce blended Cabs from 14 barrels for their tasting.
We bought 2012 Estate Cabernet and 2010 Cabernet Limited. We are going to store these for 3 – 4 years. True treasures.
We are going back to Hansen and join his club.
People, do not miss this place.
To the moron Unilocalers who gave this place a 1 star review, thank you, if your ignorance and prejudice keeps just one person like you away from Hansen then you have done Bruce Hansen a favor. You are clearly not adults, but whiney malicious children who need to continue slurping Red Bull and boba drinks.

Ambiance was un-​inviting as were the staff offering tastings. They boasted superiority over neighboring vineyards, not even offering a vessel to dump wines, however their wines were less than exciting verging on vinegary and unpalatable. The tasting room was run down and silent, overall a stuffy environment. We will not be returning.

The highlight of our wine tasting trip to Paso. We had not planned to stop here but someone from another winery suggested that we do. We arrived at Hansen around 2:30PM and didn’t leave until almost 5. Bruce (Hansen) was pouring what could only be described as some of the finest Cab that you will taste. Year after year of consistent clean quality, all from his meticulously maintained estate vineyard. Let me say that his Zinfandel stands up equally. After the tasting and learning all about this fantastic winery, and having thus far skipped lunch, our group of 8 asked if we could use the picnic table for some snacking. Since it was raining Bruce pulled the fork lift out of the way and instead invited us into the cellar. Out came the tables and chairs and the party started with Bruce leading the way! What a hoot. Stories of the wine, the valley, the vineyard, and everything «Paso». The day ended with an impromptu barrel tasting (and on-​the-​fly blending) of the soon to be released Cab (s). We are believers and now lucky wine club members. Will we be back? Count on it! This is what wine is all about and Bruce makes it all come alive. Thanks for a great time in Paso.

It’s always tough for me to do a winery review. I leave all the wine notes to those who have exceptional palates. But, this was a new winery for Mr. B, and it seems it surpassed his expectations. So, Mr. B joined yet another wine club. Guess it was too good to step away.
Plenty of awards and medals adorned their displays. And even I loved the wine.
The 2010 Marquis Zin, 2009 Limited Release Cab, and 2010 Reserve Cab were all exceptional. I guess for a relatively non-​wine drinker, I have discovered one of my passions is for Zin. And Hansen’s really got me started in the right direction.
Meanwhile, I am less of a socialite than Mr. B. So I left him sipping and schmoozing, he does that well, while Lilly-​pup and I spent time enjoying the view of the vineyard, walking through the charming winterized herb and rose garden, and socializing with the winery dog. More my speed. Something for everybody.
This is a small boutique winery, a fun little getaway, with humble excellence and gracious, welcoming vibes.

If I could give this winery ZERO stars I would. These people are not diverse and quite racist. I’m cuban-​American and I never experience this type of treatment as I speak English and do not have an accent and I’m NOT ashamed of where my family came from. So When my family came into this place and met the owner, I assumed the owner had hard humor when he was joking about how my dad crossed the border even though it happened ages ago and my dad pays his dues. It was no big deal, but then I noticed a posting on his wall about how people cross the border from other countries and then get shot or penalized but if someone crosses the border illegally in the United States they receive welfare, medical insurance, and a job. The posting ended stating no wonder why America is in debt. The wine btw nothing out of this world. I understand that people have their opinions but when you’re trying to run a business, diversity is something you need in order to succeed. I would not recommend this place to any one. Oh and there was an older woman and a younger woman who had an attitude as well. NOT friendly at all!!!

Had a group of 16 stop here for wine-​tasting at the end of our tour for the day, what a great time we all had! The wines were great, especially the Rose and port. They served fantastic cheeses with their wines, and several types of grilled sausages too.
Everything was heavenly and they were extremely patient with our large, rowdy group (it was our 5^th stop, after all) and most of us traipsed off the the Vivant cheese store to purchase the recommended cheeses, they were that good!
Will definitely be back here on our next trip to Paso Robles.

This winery serves, for the most part, Cabs, and they are all spectacular, The owner and winemaker, Bruce, is a character to say the least, but his knowledge and love for wine is apparent and he is entertaining. Did I say his wine was spectacular? Late last Saturday afternoon, he took us through about 8 years of his wines, some award winners and some he did not enter, but were as good as the award winners. He is a generous host and we had to back track through the years a few times when we got confused, and then make our way forward again. His insights into each of his wines and some of the French wines he competes with were insightful and fun «to test». I would call this winery a «must stop». Arrive later in the day, and you may be there for awhile.

Had to laugh at the 1 star reviews here. If you’re a cry baby and easily offended this probably isn’t the place for you. Bruce Hansen the owner and is a salt of the earth type of guy. He admittedly doesn’t tolerate wine snobs and posers. He is as honest as the day is long. The wine club is great and is very reasonable. We’ve been club members here for over 10 years. I will attest that this is one of the premier red wine producers in Paso and if you know the history of the Paso wine area he has sold his grapes to «some» very big names in the area where they have put their label on his grape. If you’re ready for some kick ass cab stop in and be prepared to «run the counter» so pull up your socks and get ready!

I really wanted to love this winery. As soon as we walked in we felt like we were part of the party that was going on. My husband and I are both in the wine industry, he is a winemaker and I work in wine management. The gentleman who was working the tasting room (I assume the owner) treated us poorly. There were two times where my husband and I were admiring gifts in the lobby and the owner whistled at us for our attention (very rude). I felt like we were judged due to our age, as if we didn’t know anything. Unfortunately, we were willing to buy his wines, but were so offended that we just decided to pay the tasting fee. I have never been treated this poorly and wouldn’t recommend this winery.

I have been a member of the wine club for a couple years. Their Cabs and Zins are fantastic. It’s one of the most fun places to taste you will find.

Go here for good cabs, and stay for the Bruce shit show! This guy is amazing, and spends time not only pouring you everything he has ever made, while making fun of your wife, but he also teaches you about wine tasting, and the differences in wine making. This place is small, and fun which is a nice attraction, but in between peeing yourself laughing, the wine is actually really good… Almost all cab, but they are all over the spectrum, from heavy and rich, to light and fruity… like me!

A true favorite! Bruce, the wine, his sweet wife, the setting and sometimes a surprise bbq make this place feel like you’re visiting an old friend. We are huge fans of Hansen wines and members of the wine club. Drive out there. You won’t regret it!

My parents have been wine club members at Hansen for a few years and were always telling us about Bruce and what a fun winery Hansen is. My husband and I finally got to visit Hansen with our parents this weekend, and we could see what they were talking about right away! Bruce is definitely a character with a lot of fun stories and knowledge about his wine. We tasted about 8 different wines (if memory serves), and he even took us out into his warehouse for a barrel tasting and to show us his Model A. I’m not usually a huge fan of most red wines (although I love whites!), but there was not one tasting that I didn’t enjoy. I’ve been wine tasting countless times, and this was a first! We ended up picking up several bottles and can’t wait to share them with our friends. I highly recommend visiting Hansen if you’re in the Paso Robles area. It’s the best winery I’ve visited while tasting in the area, and I would definitely be back!

This place is truly dangerous. I’ve been here twice in the last year. I walk in resolved to buy a bottle or two and somehow end up leaving with a case. Plus, there’s that whole Wine Club thing, too. Everyone talks about Bruce’s reds. They should; his reds are stellar. But don’t ignore his Rose and his Viognier. You won’t be disappointed.

Bruce is quite a character! We asked if we could share a tasting and he smiled and shook his head no. Then the couple next to us asked about dumping what wine they didn’t drink and Bruce (again with a smile) said no dumping. He was determined to get us all drunk on his Cabs and boy did he ever! And wow, everything we tried was spectacular; definitely our favorite of the 5 wineries we tried today. I signed up for the club right there as everything was so great. And his Zin was awesome too.
Don’t come here if you don’t like Cabs, are in a hurry, or plan on just casually trying wine you don’t intend to buy. Bruce will make your visit worthwhile!

We spent over an hour here with Bruce, the owner and winemaker, sampling Cabs from different vintages as well as some of his more recent experiments including the Barrel Select (4-​years in oak) and 3-​Barrel that had just been recently bottled. The wines were amazing and the experience is one that I won’t soon forget. I made it a point of this trip to Paso to focus on the more intimate wineries, and I am glad that I made the trek East to Hansen. The wine club is a bargain, and I’m looking forward to that bottle of ’04 that we couldn’t leave without. If you don’t like Cabs, don’t waste your time; but if you do, make time no matter what.

I can’t believe I am only the second person to review Hansen! This winery is unbelievable! Joined the club after the first tasting of Cabs! Bruce is the «Mad Scientist» of wine making. This place really blows away all the wineries in the region. (Not to say Hansen is the only good winery in the Central Coast) This region is amazing and many of the wineries have definitely caught the attention of connoisseurs.
I wont even go into detail about the experience Bruce gave us it would ruin this place with 2 buck chuck drinkers. If you are serious about reds it is a must do! I am not into whites but his 06 and 07 Viognier was pretty damn good…

I can not believe that I am the first to review this Winery. It is located in Templeton /​Paso Robles. We loved their wines so I am torn between keeping it a secret and doing a reveiw. They make one white wine, Voingier which is very crisp and refreshing. When we were there they served some in a sno-​cone, great on a hot afternoon. But Hansen wines are really about the Reds. — They make several Cabernets, regular bottlings, and then some special or reserved wines. The wines have such great fruit. They also have Syrah, Zin «marquis» and last year a Cab Franc. They are very friendly and very knowlegble about what they are pouring. Just one sip and will want to join the club.
