Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy

Great place to train with excellent instructors and students who are not only great practitioners they are really good people who are a family. My kids 2 girls and 2 boys all under 10 work out here and I can’t say enough good things about this school

Helped a friend research martial arts schools for her daughter and can say that I don’t know why the MA community wouldn’t shut this place down when the owner has a rape charge and two students went to trail for a rape. That just means that there is a lot more bad going on that we haven’t heard about yet. So sad given that women need a safe place to train for martial arts. This isn’t that place for sure…

My son came here a few years ago and stayed with Justin for awhile. Having special needs they took their time pulling him thru the ranks making sure he understood everything he was doing so he didn’t get hurt.
He was then taken to the top and he froze. Our son didn’t want to start competing and was afraid. He wanted to go back to his old class but they said once he moves up he doesn’t go down.
It’s ok for me as a parent but unfortunately our son is very stubborn and wasn’t willing to budge so we stopped coming. Sad he didn’t want to continue but it wasn’t for him. The staff was wonderful and we enjoyed many different events they had (a Halloween sleep over watched by many adults was awesome for our son he was so happy)
Definitely a great place to give kids discipline and having another adult instill positive qualities was wonderful.
Before I left I heard a lot of negative things but i don’t feed into it. Negative people only want to bring positive ppl down. With that being said if your a parent who is involved with your kids and wants a positive place for them this is the place
(We also moved an hour away so I couldn’t join any adult classes unfortunately)

This is the absolute best family oriented martial arts school I’ve attended ever.
I’ve been enrolled in classes here for 9 years and both of my kids attend classes also. Both of my kids compete in brazilian jiu jitsu and have done extremely well in competition. I train more for self defense and to stay in shape.
My wife was training for the last 5 years but had to stop as we are expecting our third child in the next few months. She’ll be back right after and in a few more years our newborn will be training with Master Lloyd also.
I don’t know what we would be doing if it wasn’t for Lloyd Irvin’s martial arts academy. I would recommend this academy to anyone that wants to learn self defense, get in shape or even compete at the highest level.
They have many UFC fighters in the academy training with regular students daily and also elite level bjj players.
You just have to come see it for yourself. I train 3 – 4 times a week, have 2 jobs, 2 kids, one on the way and a wife. If I can find time to train anyone can.

If I could give 10 stars for Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy (LIMMAA) I would! This review is over 7 years in the making. I am offering my testimony as a parent with 2 children growing up in the kids program as well as a developing Jiu-​Jitsu (JJ) practitioner and competitor.
I was introduced to LIMMAA over 7 years ago. We were looking for a good afterschool program for our daughter who was 5 years old at the time. Our neighbor suggested that I give the school a call to see if it would be a good fit for our daughter. Her two children were both students and had been connected to the school for years. I called and arranged a tour. I can’t tell you exactly what made me decide to say yes that day, but I will tell you that the woman I sat with, Ms. Rosalee Irvin made me believe that we should give this place a try. We knew nothing about JJ or martial arts for that matter. My husband and I are both former athletes, I ran track he played football and basketball. What drove me to decide to enroll my daughter and subsequently my son was the warm, family oriented environment that was immediately apparent. What I didn’t know is just how impactful to our lives this school would be over the years to come.
My children entered into 2 different programs initially. My daughter joined the afterschool program, which provided reliable pick-​up from her elementary school daily. Students in the afterschool program were given HW time and assistance if needed, snack and then 1-​hour of instruction daily. With a 6:00 pm pick-​up time, this is a GOLDEN resource for any working parent. Our son was enrolled in the Tiny Ninjas program.
We stayed on this schedule for a few years. Every summer they were enrolled in the Summer Camp program. The same great experiences we had come to expect during the year were magnified during summer camp. They have packed daily schedules full of swimming, games, character development and leadership development. In all of the years that we have entrusted our children to the care of LIMMAA I have never worried about their safety or the environment. This is a huge statement for a licensed clinical social worker.
As the children grew so did their interest and skill in the art of JJ. As a result they were offered the opportunity to join the Master’s Club and eventually the Kids Comp. Team. At 5 and 8 years old they registered for their 1^st tournament, the rest is history. Both of our children are multiple NAGA, Grapplers Quest and Good Fight winners and our daughter is a three time IBJJF Kids Pan American Champion.
Somewhere along the way while waiting for our children to finish training, my husband and I decided to enroll in the intro JJ adult class. I initially started with in the all women’s MMA class while my husband started with JJ. The next year, we all were enrolled in JJ. Almost 3 years later, my husband and I have gone on to compete and just this past week I made my White Belt debut at the 2015 IBJJF Worlds tournament. Personally, I have come to love the sport! It has offered me a second chance at competition; something I believe had long passed for me. My 37-​year-​old self would give my 20-​year-​old self a run for her money.
Both of my children have grown up at LIMMAA. They have each experienced great success as developing JJ practitioners but they are more importantly growing into respectful leaders. They are both consistent Honor Roll students and are comfortable being who they are. LIMMAA became our village, our extended family.
Hands down, LIMMAA is the BEST school in Maryland with one of the BEST BJJ programs in the world. 17 years of history producing numerous high level competitors proves this statement to be true. With that being said, LIMMA is not just for competitors, you will find that most of the students do not compete. There is something for everyone at this school. Moms, dads, young and seasoned, we all receive the same instruction, support and care. There is Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Jiu-​Jitsu and Boot camp Fitness. Our success in competition is a byproduct of high-​level technical instruction and refined time tested teaching methods. It is hard to believe that this jewel is located on the 3^rd floor of an un-​assuming building in Camp Springs, MD. The owner, Master Lloyd Irvin is a renowned martial arts instructor who is always present. His attention to detail is unparalleled and he is generous with his knowledge. If you have a goal, Mater Lloyd is relentless is supporting you in reaching that goal.
Bottom line, if you are looking to try any of the programs LIMMAA offers, do it! If you have a goal to compete, lose weight, increase your fitness level, learn self-​defense or have children and you want to provide them an additional advantage in life, give the school a call. There is simply nothing to lose and everything to gain!

I’ve been involved in martial arts for over 40 years. I had my own school for 21 years in the mid west before I decided to relocate the family to Washington.
I must say that Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy is by far one of the most professional and family oriented schools I’ve ever experienced.
My entire family trains at this wonderful academy. This is my 4^th year attending. I have 4 kids that all train and my wife does the fitness classes.
I come from a traditional style of karate and what is taught here is a very unique blend. They are highly involved with mixed martial arts, they have students competing in the UFC and Master Lloyd has been training professional Ufc fighters for over a decade.
But the classes are ran in a fashion that a pure beginner that has no desire to compete can enjoy the learning environment. When I first started searching online it appeared that they were focused on competition. I was wrong.
I highly recommend this school for kids, adults and women. They have a huge women’s only fitness Bootcamp class and also a women’s only jiu Jitsu program.
This year I will be putting 2 more of my kids into their after school program. As you can tell I’m a very happy customer. You just have to come in and see it for yourself. I look forward to meeting more people that love the martial arts.

I can smell the aroma from the cook outs right now which means summer is right around the corner. Going to Lloyd Irvin has really got me in shape. Don’t let time pass you by. Do something now.

Amazing school to train at! Everyone is so nice and encouraging, they really help keep you motivated to work hard. Master Lloyd is amazing and gives everyone attention and helps build you a game plan to help your training improve and I can’t say it’s not super cool to train with people who fight in the UFC :)

I am penning this review from the view point of a serious and decorated athlete in jiu jitsu. The environment and culture of steadfast, effective and discipline martial arts is intoxicating. Home grown athletes, adopted international athletes, and visitors check their ego at the door and come together as a huge family, with similar goals to train hard under the watchful eye of Master Lloyd. Training is grueling in that way you expect when you are a high level athlete. Training is intense in that way you expect when you are a high level athlete. Training is focused like you expect from a professional organization. Men, women, teens and children soak up the knowledge and technique shared and are demanded to perform with excellence, precision and dedication to the task.
I am an introspective man so I have some thoughts about Master Lloyd’s style. Simply, Master Lloyd is a driller. Only perfect reps count and Lloyd is willing to sit 3, 4, 5+ hours and watch you drill a technique until you own it, until it is your staple, until it is what you are known for.
I love being at LIMMA. There is a culture of behavior goal congruence. If you tell Master Lloyd that you want to be black belt world champion, mma champion, boxing champion, thai champion, a more successful person at life, then he looks at your life and your behavior and helps you formulate a plan to achieve your goal.
My experiences at LIMMA have made me a better jiu jitsu player, a better person, a better husband, a better hospice consultant and a better martial artist in the classic sense of the term. I recommend LIMMA for all ages, genders, body types and skill levels. If you are looking to get in shape, learn self defense, compete on the highest levels or just spend time with really cool people doing something healthy and positive after work, this is the place.

Team Lloyd Irvin MMA in Camp Springs, Maryland is electric. There is so much hard work, motivation, and inspiration inside the walls of this Academy that it seems to have its own pulse. If one is looking for a place to master BJJ — this is the place. If one is looking for a place to master striking — this is the place. If one is looking for a place to learn discipline, lost weight, get in shape, and/​or make life long friends — this is the place! Master Lloyd is a grappling legend and hall of famer and his ability to pass on his techniques are second to none. Lloyd Irvin has produced both adult and kids IBJJF world champions and has the rare distinction of being the winningest American BJJ team for both. Maryland is often called «America in Miniature,» as we have mountains, beaches, cities, and country, but do not forget that we also have TLI and with that comes some of the best MMA instruction on planet Earth!

I can’t say enough how much I enjoy this place. I’ve been apart of the Lloyd Irvin family almost 20 years now and each experience has been a positive one. For almost two decades my entire family has participated in every program they offer from the Tiny ninjas class for toddler’s up to the senior self defence class. We have literally done it all! I would recommend this program for any one interested in getting in shape, building confidence, making new friends, building leadership skills, learning self defense, and improving your overall well being in a fun and safe environment.
The entire staff is friendly and very helpful. The prices are also very affordable and family friendly. When you call ask to speak with Nyjah or Joe and they will take good care of you.

I’ve been training here since I was 9 years old and I’m 22 years old now! Since my mom enrolled me here its improved my confidence and my self esteem. I’ve not only become a world champion but I’ve also made friends and new family that will last a lifetime. I I’ve worked almost every year giving back to the summer camp and the after school program. I’m currently an instructor for the kids introductory program for kids 5 – 7 years old and 8 – 12 years old. It’s my way of giving back to the community that’s given me so much. I’ve grown up on the mats here and I attribute allot of my recent success as an adult to Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts. I would highly recommend this place to any parent who is looking to improve their child’s confidence, discipline, focus, grades, bully avoidance skills, self defense, and over all well being.

Can anyone tell me the prices and if they work with only contracts or month to month? Military discounts? Etc. I called asking for info but they wouldn’t discuss anything over the phone. Just kept trying to convince me to come in.

I’ve been training at Lloyd Irvin’s martial arts academy for almost 9 years and I’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences here. Im now a professional fighter and train here several times per week. With the help and guidance of master lloyd I’ve been able to open my own school in Aberdeen MD. They offer classes for pros like me and beginners for everyone. Wrestling, boxing, MMA and Jiu jitsu classes. I often bring my students with me to train here also.

I came here a few times with someone who used to swear by this school. Initially I was really impressed with the go hard attitude, but if you look up the news that circulates around this school, you’ll see why a lot of people, save for some zealots, left.
I am never coming here again. I refuse to support this kind of business

I have been training here for a few years now, and this academy seems to get better and better. Not only have I made great strides and improvements in the martial arts, but as a man and productive member of our society… I know this sounds a bit deep, but bear with me.
I find new ways to accomplish my goals on a daily basis here, not just because the instruction is world-​class, but because within the academy there is a strong community of people who genuinely believe in helping others achieve their own goals as well.
Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts isn’t just for adults though… The kids and teens program is unlike any I’ve ever seen. The director of the this program completely dedicates himself to the growth and development of everyone involved. You see the results in training, you see it in the competitions (these kids are world champions), but more importantly it’s what they do off the mat that’s a direct result of the teachings here (the parents themselves are incredible too). You can see proof of this all around the academy.
My nephew recently started training (he’s 5), I wanted to make sure he had strong male role models in his life –since his father isn’t in the picture– and I really wanted him to be exposed to this fun and nurturing environment where he can meet new friends, learn effective martial arts while building his confidence and self esteem… Sounds cliché but that’s how I feel. I love seeing the smile on his face when he shows up for training, and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop into a strong and confident young man.
Ok, I’ve gone on enough… If you’re in the dmv area you owe it to yourself or child to at least come in and check Lloyd Irvin’s martial arts out, it’s worth the visit.

Whenever I am in DC or Camp Springs, I make it a point to train here. You will be hard pressed to find higher quality instruction from black belt world champions, or the world class training facilities that dwarf any martial arts facility I have ever been to.
Master Lloyd is an incredible athlete, an amazing instructor and an excellent person to be acquainted with. His instructors such as Master Donny, Miss Nyjah, and DJ Jackson are fantastic and i always learn something new when I visit.
I would highly that you visit and train here. You will love it!

Lloyd Irvin Martial arts continues to be an inspiration for my entire family.
The after school program has been providing an amazing experience for my child for years, my son has developed into a leader with a very strong sense of being. When I first enrolled him he was very shy and timid.
My daughter is in her second year but just attending the night classes due to her gymnastics commitments. Martial arts training has brought out a side of her that her mother and I didn’t know existed.
When it comes to the adult program it is hands down the best. The competition team competes and wins at the very highest levels. They have multiple fighters competing and winning in the ultimate fighting championships. They also have classes for people that just want to get into great shape.
I love the fact that no one gets pushed to compete and can go at their own pace. My wife is now training in the women’s fitness classes and love it. I highly recommend this business for adults and kids.

Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy is the best training facility in the area, east coast and possibly the country. This place offers all types of services for any type of person which I feel is very important. If you want to lose weight or become a professional MMA fighter they have the personnel and head instructor to make you reach your goals. It’s a place where you immediately feel the positive and competitive energy when you walk through the doors.
All of the programs from kids to adults have world class instructors who follow a sound proof system taught by Master Lloyd Irvin. LIMMA is just an awesome place! It has a uniqueness which every gym does not have and this is what separates LIMMA from other martial art gyms. Master Lloyd is dedicating his life to teach the martial arts to everyone and that right there is why LIMMA is the best gym!

I am very happy with the facility! As a woman, I’m particular about clean places when you work out!
The fitness instructors are amazing and they are actually in shape themselves! My pet peeve is out of shape trainers and instructors, there is something incongruent about that!
Staff is friendly and patient and they are always helpful. Even the younger staff which is impressive since so many youth lack respect and manners.
I’m def recruiting more of my girlfriends to come here with me, love the women’s classes!
My son has been doing martial arts here for 4 years and I am more than happy with the change I see in him. He is way more of an extravert now and his teachers at school see the positive change as well.
