Was craving Taiwanese cuisine and decided to try it out. Interior is clean with a nice ambiance. Got the Taiwanese Styled Hamburger, Steamed Sticky Rice with Minced Meat, and Beef Roll. The Taiwanese Styled Hamburger was amazing; reminded me of the burgers I used to get as a kid in Taiwan. The portion size is huge for $ 4.50. I asked for them to make it fresh as well and fresh it was. Hit the spot. The steamed sticky rice was a disappointment though. I think they microwaved the rice instead, as pieces were hard and stuck together(which is what happens if you microwave sticky rice.) Once we told the servers, they offered to take it off our tab. The minced meat was definitely amazing though! I’d just get minced meat with normal rice then. Beef wrap was solid. All flavors were balanced in the roll. I also like how they don’t fry the wrap of the roll; so many places do that nowadays and it really ruins the experience for me. Overall, prices are super cheap and the flavors remind me of home. Definitely worth a try.

I have been to many asian bakeries like 85 Degrees and Diamond, but JJ is not much different. In fact, JJ Bakery is more expensive and has the same quality pastries as any other bakery. I hear so much about this bakery, but my favorite is 85 so far.

Great place for yummy pastries and cake! I’ve gotten a few items there like the egg tart and some sweet pastries like the almond danish and pineapple bread, and most recently got a fruit cake for a birthday. Staff is nice and friendly and prices are reasonable.

The location was not hard to find as it is located in a big plaza. Have a good amount of different variety of breads. I wouldn’t recommend getting the drinks. I got the almond tea which was really thick. I tried the soy milk as well but it tasted a little burnt. Bread however was just decent. However, the mango Mochi is delicious!

I was really thrilled to hear that JJ Bakery AND their café has opened up closer to home. My mom and I have been going to the Arcadia location to buy bread all the time. My all time favorites from JJ Bakery are the red bean buns and the pineapple buns. Most of their pastries, cakes, and breads are really good and are at an affordable price. Although I must admit, being an egg tart lover, I am not really fond of their egg tart. There’s just something that’s off that doesn’t make it seem enjoyable. Aside from their breads, next to their bakery is a small café where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a meal with friends and/or family. I’ve had their Taiwanese style breakfast, with hot soy milk and the fried dough, which is delicious! I came here recently with my grandma and we ordered the pork stew opted out with vermicelli and the popcorn chicken bento box. Both were really good, gave large portions, and under $ 10! The service is also great. I can’t wait to try their drinks! They seem to have the same concept as 85, but with oreos.

I wanted to try this place for a year now so I did. I bought all items that are mentioned by others Unilocalers, however it was a disappointment. I got egg tarts; green tea and strawberry mochis; rice pockets with shredded meats, eggs and chinese sausage; red bean buns; cappuccino mousse and pineapple bun. Everything was pretty mediocre. Nothing really blows my mind. The egg tarts are thicker than normal(you get more filling), but the filling is a little runny. The rice pockets are pretty oily and salty. I wasn’t that impressed. They cost $ 4.25 each. I didn’t like the mochi that much. It has whipped cream filling. I don’t think I would come back :(

Love the variety. Pretty good selection of baked goods, pastries, cakes and savory items. Haven’t try their drinks or restaurant dishes at this location, but would like to. The one in City of Industry had pretty decent food. Tried their sticky rice(glutinous rice) and Veggie + Meat Steam Bun. Both were kinda good. Pineapple pastry(a lot of Asian bakeries still calls it «pineapple cake») and Sun pastry were ok/decent/not bad. Fell in love with the Watermelon Shaped Cake. Would consider the taste to be in the decent/not bad/kinda good category. Had to get it cuz it looked so cute! Really enjoyed the Tuna Sandwich. They’re like finger food from High Tea or Afternoon Tea. Just not as tiny. Had always liked their Egg Tart.

Came here and ate with my girlfriend. The food was very delicious and the price was affordable. We had some desert from there bakery and it was also really good. We both ate soups and they were both full of flavors and fresh! The waiters were super nice to us and checked up on us regularly. Very nice people! Me and my girlfriend left happy and said we’d for sure come back here again! Thanks guys!

This review is mostly for the restaurant part.(The bakery is just as good as the one in Arcadia.) The restaurant wasn’t really good, got the Chau Siu rice and the Chair Siu was basically all fat no meat. Tried the lunch set too which wasn’t bad but wouldn’t come here again. Tried the breakfast the another time but it wasn’t that good either. The fried daikon with egg and it wasn’t fried enough and seemed to be a little under cooked

Whoo hoo! Another new bakery in Town and thank god it’s not another 85 degree bakery!!! This location is located on the corner of Rosemead Blvd and Las Tunas. It’s in the same plaza as TJ max, Starbucks, Yoshinoya, Togo’s Baskin Robbins, etc. with plenty of parking spaces. i am so impressed with with how much this bakery location offers. JJ has more to offer than 85 degree in many ways: 1. JJ offers a variety of bread selections with also a bigger inventory of bread that’s fully stocked on all the shelves at all time. Going to 85 degree can lead you to disappointment because they are always out of bread and you end up picking the less popular bread since there is nothing else to buy. 2. JJ is not only a bakery, but they are a café. They serve the popular taiwanese breakfast and popular taiwanese lunch boxes. All the food are pretty food and are made fresh to the order. This is a good place to grab food while you meet up with friends. 3. Aside from bread, they also have desserts like whole birthday cakes, slices of cake, cheesecake, tiramisu, korean mocha bread, cold sandwiches, pastries, mocha, rice milk, soy bean milk, rice burrito, pudding, etc. They offer more variety of food similar to the Taiwanese deli for quick and fast food to go. 4. More variety of taiwanese desserts: Iced or hot tofu pudding with peanut sauce, hot longan black rice soup, and taiwanese shaved ice with condense milk. 5. Drinks such as tea drinks with fresh milk, creamer, smoothies, juices, milk, coffee, and freshly grind(iced almond, iced soy milk, iced rice milk). They even speciality tea such as oolong winter melon tea, jasmine winter melon tea, sea salt cream milk tea, oreo sea salt cream winter melon tea. have sea salt coffee too. The prices are reasonable. 6. They do accept credit card with no min. I love this location and plan to come back and check out the café. They have so much more to offer than most bakery. It’s a one stop shop for all my taiwanese food cravings.

came here to try their breakfast menu. ordered their sticky rice and i find it to be so small. it was just okay, the sticky rice itself wasn’t warm enough(it was just in room temperature). I also ordered their egg omelette pancake — meh, nothing special. The egg was super thin and was tasteless, the pancake was crispy but you definitely need that garlic sauce to enhance the flavor. i like the location of this place — clean, spacious and convenient for those who don’t live in arcadia.

**3.5 stars for JJ** I love Chinese bakeries and JJ is good but on the pricey side. I’ve been to the one in Arcadia many times but it’s always packed and cleaned out. I’m glad they opened another location. I was in the area and it was busy but nothing like the other location. They have a variety of cakes, pastries, and savory breads. I got 3, scallion bun, hot dog bun, and a cheese danish. I only tried the hot dog and it was tasty. It was about $ 5 for 3 pastries. Overall, a decent place to grab a sweet/savory treat but I think Bread farm and Paris Baguette have a better selection.

The worst JJ. BAKERY&CAFE! I always order minced pork rice combo from other branch, never had minced pork rice only come with tiny layer meat on top of the rice. The soup only come with three fishball, and no vegetables inside! Never go back again!

The food is not the same as their Arcadia store. Ordered breakfast items and they were terrible. Salty soy milk tasted like rotten clumps of tofu. No salt taste and they forgot all the stuff inside inside the salty soy milk. Fried dough stick is over cooked. Egg pancake was hard and tasted like store bought tortilla. Pork and veggie bun was gross. At 8:30am, they had only 1⁄3 of the bread choices. I guess they don’t have bakers coming early to get ready when they open at 8? Price is very expensive. Employees are standing around talking to themselves. They don’t know the menu and can’t answer questions. Just go to their Arcadia store! Don’t bother with this one.

We came on its grand opening to check it out and they advertised in the Chinese newspaper that they were offering a free drink with a$ 10 purchase. We bought $ 10 worth of overpriced bread and No drink because they sold out of it? Well don’t advertise it as free drink all day. I don’t actually care for your drink but if you advertise it, you better no be out of it. What liars. I guess this is how the Asians do business. This location tries to be 85 but can’t because there is no space. All the bread is located in this weird u-shape formation that barely fits 10 people inside. How do you expect me to get my bread?

I wanted to try this place because all of my friends were raving about it and I wanted to try something other than 85 degree. The shop was very clean and organized which was a plus. Everything they sold was very similar to what 85 degree offers, but it was pricier, so I was a little disappointed. I bought a cup of Jasmine tea, which was probably the best thing there to be honest. I also bought my favorite pastry, which is the custard bun. It was ok, not that great. I would probably come back to this place if I would suddenly have a craving for some Asian pastry if I were in the area.

Yay, they pushed back the shelves against the wall! :) The bakery section feels more spacious now, woohoo! Simple movement like that makes it better to maneuver around and not get so claustrophobic. Still dig their sweet and savory pastries :)

I’d say this place is alright. It’s raved about by some people as somewhere that’s similar to 85c I taste. I’d say it’s only similar in style. The trays, the tongs the setup all reminds me of 85c. But the bread leaves a bit to be desired. I’m no baked goods connoisseur, but that doesn’t mean that this place lived up to my standards. I like sweet bread or something with some sort of flavor, but this place is really plain. The clerks even said it themselves that it isn’t sweet, but I was expecting for some sort of flavor or sugar. I don’t think they used any in the few pieces of bread I got. My parents and I tried their raisin bread, cream puff, prosperity bun, tiramisu cake and red bean pocket thing. All of them were ehh. The best thing in my opinion was the tiramisu but I don’t know if that was even made there. The container seemed like it was made elsewhere. For reference 85c is a 4 star to me.

I heard JJ finally opened in Temple City and went to check it out during morning hours. I am so glad this location has a café attached to bakery. There are variety of Taiwanese bread, pastries, and cakes. The interior is clean and nice with lots of display cases. The pastries were delicious and warm. The café section is nice with plenty of tables. They serve breakfast and noodles items. I haven’t been to café section. Plenty of parking since its next to TJ Maxx.

BRUTEEATSFANCYDESSERT Since I was in the area, my sweetie texted me a directive to procure one of these delicate French-Formosan pastries. I myself would rather eat a donut. This expedition to JJ’s newest outpost in Temple City was a breeze, unlike the parking purgatory and long lines at Arcadia. I got a choco strawberry chiffon for her and — might as well — a pretty dessert called lychee mango mousse for me. I went home, ripped the tabs off the cardboard box, and splayed it open. She was not happy with my technique. I was unaware that one was to peel off the tape, slide the tabs out, then allow the box to blossom undamaged so the petals can later be closed to store leftovers. In my defense, this brute has never in his life eaten half a donut only to save the rest for later enjoyment. I tried a spoonful of the lychee mango mousse, then immediately ate the shit out of the rest of it. I think I found the holy grail of desserts. And it’s only $ 3.75. I was going crazy trying to spoon the bottom of the cylindrical cup to get all the residual mousse. As my sweetie watched in disgust, I rammed my tongue into the cup but couldn’t reach the bottom goodness. The flavors of this dessert reminded me of a mild Indian mango lassi. Sweet and a bit tart from the lychee. More eclectic than just drinking a lassi, there were bits of fruit on top, shortcake, and chocolate petals to bite along the way. «Woof!» I realized my dog Kuro was staring at me. He longed that he had my lychee mango mousse. I longed that I had his tongue.

Since I love the bread, I decided to try out their café. Its Saturday night so its croweded. Waited about 5 mins and got seated. We ordered the miced pork rice $ 2.50 and a rice noodle combo.(Combo comes with 2 side dished. $ 11.50) I think its a bit expensive. Also, ordered 2 drinks. The meal took about 10 mins to arrived I undersand its busy but they forgot our drinks. I asked the staff twice and waited another 10 mins after we finished our meal… Still no drinks. When we asked for the check and they charged us the drinks. NOHAPPY! Called over the staff and she fixed it for us. The food taste good. Dining area is nice and has lots of seats. Customer service needs some works. It can be better.

I love Asian bakery chains, and am so glad that JJ has opened another location! The selection here is endless, beautifully decorated cakes, a self serve area with sweet and savory pastries as well as drinks that you order when paying. Load up a tray, most items are priced under $ 2 each and they pack it up for you. Service was very nice, everything we got fresh, great quality and very tasty. Welcome to the area! Worth checking out!

This review is mostly for the café side. Hand lunch today and it was a very poor service experience that dropped this review from 3 star to 2. I can’t help but say, the service was even subpar for a Chinese restaurant. Sorry if this is a Taiwanese restaurant. The service was bad. It took us a while to get our order taken, and this is after orders were taken of people who got seated after us. The waitress apologized to us after I said we were waiting a while to get our order taken and also the person she was about to take the order from came in way after us. It was not like the place was packed at all. She started talking to me in Mandarin after I was talking to her in English. Mind you I speak perfect no accent English being that I’m born and raised in the SGV, so not sure why she thought she could change language on me mid conversation. I replied I don’t speak Mandarin. She took our order and asked about drinks which she forgot to bring, we were practically done when we asked for our tea. We asked the guy to help us this time and he didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. He acted like we’re were a burden to him the way he responded and not even looking around asking if we needed help when clearly we were looking around and I tried to look at him or our no where to be found waitress. On to the food, so the food came and it was fairly quick from order to service of. The dishes were small and average in size. I hand the diced pork over noodles and mom had the omletrice dish. Omletrice had ketchup mixed with the fried rice. The egg crêpe covering was good and tender. The pork noodles was good after I put their chili oil sauce on it, tasted like and XO type of spicy sauce. Again the service was bad even when trying to pay, practically begged to get our check picked up from us when I had my credit card displayed clearly on top of the bill. Flagged down the staff after they walked passed us a few times. Bakery is still the bakery, good but the workers need to get with the program and be nice to customers and treat them as guests not a burden. Ask guppy house a few doors down… oh wait they are closed for good because their wait staff was lacking as well. I don’t care how good your food is, if your waitstaff sinks the business on treatment of guests.

I’m really happy J.J. Bakery finally filled the void of an Asian bakery, especially a Taiwanese one, in this area of the 626. Yes because I am spoiled and Cathy’s Bakery down Las Tunas and the other J.J. in Arcadia is too far of a drive for my pineapple bun fix. This location, located in the revitalized and transforming plaza at the corner of Rosemead and Las Tunas thanks to new Asian shops, is one of the bakery chain’s larger stores and has a sit-down café in addition to the bakery. [ FOOD ] You’ll find your standard Taiwanese bakery fare here. My favorites are the pineapple bun, pork song bun, and egg tart, all of which they make well. J.J.‘s regular toast is also good and make better sandwiches than thin, flimsy American… white toast(no pun intended). They also sell loaves of brick toast. The cakes, such as fruit or tiramisu, are also solid and recommended for birthdays or any special occasion. As I recall, the café menu is slightly more expansive than the other J.J. Bakery café’s in Rowland Heights, but I have not visited the latter recently to be completely sure. The bento box sets are alright but make better lunches or quick eats than a full meal. I feel the dishes are hit-or-miss though; the red pork rice is tasty but the(boneless) chicken leg rice is too greasy, and the fried rice is just meh. The lunch and to-go bento box«special» includes a regular iced black or green tea for $ 2.00, less than a buck discount off the price that they should just do it for all day to entice more customers. The green tea and jasmine(green) milk tea are excellent though, but don’t get the Hokkaido milk tea because it’s very watered down. [ SERVICE ] The bakery cashiers and café waiters and waitresses are so much more friendly than the other J.J. locations. I hope the good service is not short-loved and just because this store recently opened.

YES another new bakery in town! The smell of fresh baked bread once you walk in. All Fresh and lots of variety all at an affordable price. They got a café where you can sit down and order food to eat and drink! Very clean and spacious. Nice staff and smiles and greets at you. Located in the plaza next to TJmaxx, daiso, chase, Starbucks, guppies and so many more restaurants! Located in the corner of las Tunas and Rosemead Blvd. Definitely will be coming back to get some more bread!

Well, they have good bread, I give them that. But the grand opening day, it was a zoo, not only because of the people but the employees. There were a LOTOFTHEM behind the cashier. They were mostly kind just confused and trying to help out but there was no order and it became slower rather than more efficient. The breads we wanted were gone, fast. Okay, no problem. Lets just pay for what we did get since its new and not expected to keep up with the masses. Once I got to the cashier, she barely spoke English and wasn’t too efficient with the paying software. Everyone is learning still and I will wait longer before I come back, let the place get settled first. They have tons of very good looking(no opinion on flavor, I don’t like Asian cakes) cakes and a huge variety of desserts/sweets. They range from $ 2 – 4. I got the Mango and chocolate/coffee mousse and they were good, with a light texture and intense flavor. They were giving out a glass of soymilk with your purchase, but I don’t know if it is still ongoing. Parking is a bit hard, but doable. I think they are good, but no, i’m not a huge fan. I am more of a Porto’s kind of girl. :)

To be honest, the only reason I chose to come in this particular day was that it was their grand opening though it was technically yesterday, the 10th. I was just shopping nearby at TJ Maxx and noticed the«Grand Opening» sign. When you first walk in, it’s very clean and very bright which is always inviting. The place is divided into two areas, one half bakery and one half thats a sit down restaurant area. For my experience I’m only commenting on the Bakery area. I will say that while I’m slightly larger the average asian male, I’m not enormous. As soon as I started looking at the various pastries available, I found myself suffering from claustrophobia. No matter which way I turned I was in someones way and what really didn’t help were the drawers that held the pastries. If you’ve been to their competitors(Which I will leave nameless because I prefer to not namedrop) the doors usually slide up for easy access. The drawers here need to be pulled out which are interesting but because there’s so little room, pulling a drawer out an extra foot just adds to the problem. A lot of the tags were missing so I didn’t know what most of the pastries were, I just got what I saw had a hotdog in it(As a kid I only ate things with hot dogs in them so for me it’s nostalgia). A hotdog Danish is what it was called but it was an overgrown pig in a blanket, which actually sounds good, except the dough was a little raw around the hotdog. The other pastry I got was a «French» style ham and cheese. This thing was pretty disgusting and a week later I’m still trying to figure out what it was that I ate. The bread was hard to get through like a piece of toast that was left around for hours, just that hard. On the inside, there was cubed ham and some sort of raw cubed cheese. You can tell that the inside never got hot enough to make the cheese melt. I don’t know what cheese it was and while it looked like parmesan, it had no flavor whatever. The worst thing about it was that there was yellow mustard inside which is one of those things I hate with a passion. It’s just not for me. Maybe a traditional«French» ham and cheese has mustard in it but I read the ingredients on the tag and mustard was not one of the items so don’t fault me people. I wouldn’t have bought it if it said yellow mustard. The actual people working there seemed friendly and the only thing I would say is that there doesn’t seem to be a real system(Yet) for pricing. They were asking each other how much the pastries were so perhaps I should keep track myself just in case. I just chop that up to everything still being so new. As another Unilocaler mentioned, I actually got a free iced green tea and while I love free stuff, it was obscenely strong. It feels like a drink that would make you want to eat something just to compensate for the strong flavor. Summation so far: For now staying away from anything pastry. I know people try to be different but at the same time, you’re trying to reinvent the wheel. Place very clean and employees appear friendly. I’ll probably come back for the dining area side and update my review from that point.

So excited for this new JJ Bakery and it’s finally open. It’s pretty similar to the one in Arcadia but the interior has a larger floor and it seems much more modern and tidy. Half of it has a wide variety of fresh bread and the other half is a café. The café has a large menu for breakfast lunch and dinner and a full page of drinks! We ordered salty soy milk and a rice wrap… Both hot and delicious and came out fairly quick. Staff was helpful and came by quickly after we were seated. As for the breads, they look absolutely delicious… I would have to come back to try all of them! They have hot dog buns, sweet breads, and their famous egg tarts and so much more. And since this jj is close to me, i will definitely be coming back quite often. P. S. My fave bread from jj at the moment is the red bean mochi bread sooooo delish

JJ bakery/café has finally opened it’s doors! They mainly specialize in pastries, but their taiwanese breakfast and other items are great also. Their grand opening on Jan 11, 2015 at 8am brought in a lot of people. When I went in the afternoon, I was scavenging for the last pastry items that were left. Visitation rights: Twice. Credit Cards: Credit cards are accepted. No minimum purchase. Location/Parking: Located in the NW corner of Rosemead Blvd and Las Tunas Dr. Parking is always a mess during lunch and dinner peak times. Floor plan: There is two sides to this place. One side is the café and the other side is the bakery side(You’ll see tall display cases when you walk in). Service: Service was great when I went. Nancy(staffer) was friendly and actually SMILED. Whereas, the other staffers that were helping others seemed sad and uninterested. I overheard two patrons tell their server that he should smile a little bit more. Food came out fast. Food: I ordered quite a few things: –Sesame oil chicken soup with noodles: I thought it was okay. The soup broth was on the lighter side for me, but they did give you a decent amount of chicken. Normally, I go to Monja Taiker for my fill. –Pastries: Their Portuguese egg tarts, red bean, pineapple, and hot dog buns are yum! As –Drinks: Try their Oreo sea salt cream with winter melon tea! Oreo fans will surely love this drink! :)
