Lessons with Derek

My grandson (13 years old) expressed an interest in learning guitar so I did some research and found Derek (his web page was easy to find). Having had three children of my own who all had music lessons with varying degrees of success, I know what to look for.
After two lessons (I’m sitting in and learning as well) I have to say I’m impressed.
Derek is a good teacher which is not necessarily the same as a good musician. Just as a math whiz may be terrible at teaching math, the same is true for teaching music. One does not guarantee the other.
Derek quickly established a good rapport with his young student and I have confidence that my grandson will continue on and develop his talent under Derek’s guidance, especially through those difficult early weeks where sore fingers and buzzing strings provide little reward for all the effort.
