Gateway At Tempe

This is a great first apartment. When first moving in, it looked nothing like the model online but that was okay because I didn’t pay for the upgrades such as laminate flooring/​wood blinds etc. If you want to have a much nicer apartment go for the upgrades. If not, the basic version is basic. Maintenance is very good at responding quickly, they fixed our dryer and replaced our fridge after it began leaking. Gym is small, but there is alway’s the ASU gym if you go to school there. The pool is great! Staff is Friendly! I definitely recommend it to anyone.

I went here on move-​in day, the grounds are beautiful and so is the complex itself. Everyone is a young person or college student, mix of ethnicity, bros, jocks, girly girls, tomboys, etc. Staff are really young as well but nice. They have cool gift packs and gift cards for those upon move-​in day. They however said they didn’t have enough staff to show any models. They’re 95% full.
Also, the only apartments they have to left are 4 Bed/​4 Bath although their website says every model is available. I wasn’t allowed to look around or cross the scared threshold known as the front gate for the future reference because I said I didn’t live there. I should have lied…
It’s around $ 995/​month for 1 Bedroom, so contrary to their website rates do not start at $ 465. Please stop saying that for the old bait and switch, rate is by space, not by person, it starts at more like 1k/​month a APARTMENT.
It needs other updates as well, at the bottom of the page there’s a reference to «TN» not «AZ» where the apartments are. Copy and paste, much?

Summary: It’s fine for a first apartment. You’ll learn what bothers you in regards to rentals and then you will move out once your lease is up. For myself, I outgrew the constant noise and the inconsistent rent charges are inexcusable. The apartment property was sold as soon as I moved out.
Pros:
–Parties. It’s very easy to come across parties. My neighbors had parties that I frequently went to and I went to parties hosted by people I never met in Gateway
–The location. It’s roughly a mile from ASU Tempe, walking distance from Tempe Marketplace, walking distance from Four Peaks Brewery and Devil’s Advocate.
–Price. It is relatively cheap for the area. I lived in a 4-​bed/​2-​bath unfurnished apartment and paid $ 466.xx (not including electricity) for my room. This included a washer and dryer in the apartment unit, a dishwasher, stove, microwave, fridge and a built-​in desk.
— Business Center has free printing.
–The landscaping is well maintained.
— Security guards are polite. You will not be bothered unless you have your door open blasting music at 2AM.
–Maintenance is quick. I have submitted a request at 8PM and maintenance came at 10AM to solve the issue on multiple occasions.
— There is a roommate matching system available. All of my roommates were friendly, spoke perfect English and came from a variety of backgrounds.
–The gym, although a bit small, is 24-​hours. No squat rack. Free tanning.
— They frequently host complex events (pool parties, food, alcohol for 21+, giveaways).
— The Orbit Shuttle is directly outside, was constantly full from what I heard.
Cons:
–Parties. Noisy, messy and take up all the parking
–Parking can be annoying due to uncovered parking being highly prized. I have seen tow trucks perform scouting rounds around the complex just to see if someone is parked where they are not supposed to be.
–Gates are useless. There is such a high volume of traffic entering/​leaving Gateway that you can wait in your car (or if you are walking in, by a swing gate) and you won’t have to wait more than five minutes to follow another person in.
–Business Center frequently had issues. Printer malfunctioned at least once a month for 3 days at a time and two of the computers cannot connect to the printer, only leaving two capable.
–My electronic key stopped working on multiple occasions at random occurrences.
–I signed a leasing application and a background check in March and I did not receive any contact from Gateway until 5.5 months later until I was intended to move in. No information on if I was even accepted, what roommates I would have or even the apartment number itself.
–Multiple items and appliances were broken the day I moved in and because a roommate was already living there prior, the common living areas were not cleaned at all. I submitted over twenty maintenance requests the first two weeks I moved in and it took three to four weeks to receive a response.
–There has been multiple security concerns. I have received emails from Gateway warning that people were stealing from unlocked apartments and individuals were looking into windows to scope out for burglary. In one situation, a police officer came to my door to advise me to lock all the windows and doors as there was a suspect loose in the area. In another situation, a police officer came to my door because one of our neighbors got his tires slashed. My bicycle and my roommates locked bicycle were stolen from our locked balcony — the individual jumped off the stairs and landed onto our balcony, unlocking the door from the inside. Footprints on railing were seen and outdoor furniture was moved.
–The walls are thin. I was able to hear the phone vibration of the individual who lives directly above me and if you live in the room closest to the patio, you’ll hear everything.
— Multiple issues with rent. Charged two months of rent at once, overcharged and undercharged. A staff told me to «pay online using the same amount every time and ignore what it actually states»; their online payment system is on Central Timezone for no reason. If you pay at 10PM, you will get hit with a Late Charge and be forced to go into the office to explain the situation.
–There were 11 speed bumps one-​way to my apartment.
— Most of the staff are under 21. I did not feel a sense of security knowing that my living situation was in the hands of new adults.
–Roommate matching system is not reliable. I submitted ‘No Smokers’ and one of my assigned roommates was a frequent smoker. He was kind, but still a smoker.
— Our apartment got hit with an advertisement on our door at least every single day.
Move Out Experience: It took 10 minutes for an administrative walk-​through and the employee took photographs. I got charged the following: $ 40 for a bedroom carpet cleaning fee, $ 2.50 (split ¼) for dirty drip pan, $ 12.50 (split ¼) for a hole in the wall — my security deposit was $ 100 and the charges were less than I expected, surprising really.

I really like this apartment complex. People here really aren’t that rowdy. Really nice apartments. People are saying it’s over priced, well duh you’re paying for a room, not a whole apartment. If you want a better deal find roommates to sign else where. Gym isn’t the greatest but pool is nice! Also they do treats every hump day! Very cool. I would have stayed but I moved to apartments in Mesa.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. A waste of money and a ripoff. The apartment seemed like a good deal but it is not. Everything in my apartment was messed up. Water temperature was reversed, ice machine has been broken since the first day, lint mounds FROM PREVIOUS OWNERS are behind the washer and dryer and was not cleaned out prior to move in, you can hear everything your neighbors are doing, the SRP power boxes are a joke, the wifi connection is the worst in America, homeless people hang out at the pool at night, they shut off our water randomly without prior warning, the maintenance people are intrusive, mold in the bathroom walls. I could go on and on. Just look elsewhere to live, believe me. It may seem like the cheapest out of the main ASU student focused living around campus, but there are other places that are much cheaper and less known. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone to live here.

I like to think I’m pretty fair at judging places, but I have to say living at Gateway at Tempe was probably the biggest mistake I could have made. The pictures online look nothing like the apartments in real life, and the models they show you to are so nice compared to the actual apartments. The walls are paper thin, and you can usually hear everything the people above you and next you you are doing. I often got woken up from hearing our neighbor’s cell phone vibrate on her desk. In two months, I had a massive flooding of our apartment, and continuous bug problems. The worst of which was bedbugs. Our neighbor ended up bringing them in, saying she got bed bugs when she moved in to her room. It’s such a hassle and Gateway did very little to accomodate us in a timely manner. When we originally called they told us to call our own exterminator, but when we did we were denied help saying the apartment complex had to ask them to spray the apartment. After three days they finally listened, and brought someone out, then made us wait another four days before they could spray. We were not compensated for the amount of electricity we used when trying to exterminate the bugs, nor did we feel happy with the customer service. When we spoke to Gateway on the phone, the girl, I think her name was mikell, was extremely rude did very little to help me and my room mates. This was only one instance of how rude and lazy the staff is.
Please, whatever you do, do not sign a lease at Gateway. It’s iron clad, and you’ll have to wait an entire year to move out. It’s also a total rip off, and not worth the price. Please think twice before moving in here!

Walls are really thin and a very load atmosphere. If you are there to party and stay up late, then it might be for you. You are not paying for quality that’s for sure! You are paying for the party community. Gateway is very cheap and will squeeze as much money out of you as possible. They now fix things relatively fast but appliances break often and are low quality. Don’t be surprised if you find old belongings behind the dresser with dust and hair everywhere upon move in… it was gross. They do patch work to fix apartments and looks it. The leasing office will mislead you to try and sell. Make sure you know 100% what you are doing and don’t beleive what is not in writing. One example is trying to have them sublease your apartment for a fee… they don’t care and it will never happen. Another example, asking for a different type of roomate to fill the room… ie not a foreign exchange student that does not speak english… what you will get is your 5^th exchange student living with you. Pros: party, location, umm free printing?
Worst parts: quality of apartment, walking and wii being heard above you, loud yelling, loud running up stairs… all this ²⁴⁄₇

This was my first apartment in the Tempe area. They definitely have some pros and cons:
Pros:
— Right near an Orbit bus stop.
— Rent includes cable and HBO.
— It’s easy to get a hold of people after hours. My keys were stolen late at night and they were available at all hours to help me.
— It’s super close to Tempe Marketplace.
Cons:
— It’s huge and full of rowdy college kids.
— It’s on University.
— When I was there, their gym was a pathetic excuse for a gym. I had to get a membership at a real gym.
— The pool was under construction most of the time I was there.
— The move-​in day was a complete mess.
— There was a break-​in here almost every other week.
— It’s overpriced in my opinion.
— I was supposed to get a $ 25 gift card after signing my lease and I never got it.
— They decided to clean out my mailbox before I even moved out and had no idea where all my mail had gone.
It was a good place to start, but I would not live there again. There are much nicer apartments in the area for cheaper. You just have to know where to look.
