Courtyard Tempe Downtown

I’m a die hard Marriott Rewards member. I stay at Courtyards in particular at least 30 times per year all over the country. This is not one of the better ones. The lobby has the standard renovated look with the standard lobby bistro. So not too bad. But the rest of the property is in dire need of an upgrade. The TV has very poor reception on most channels. The air conditioning unit in the room is old and noisy. The exercise room seems to be an afterthought shoved into a small guest room. Just 2 treadmills and one elliptical. And the TV on one treadmill doesn’t work. 6 different people walked in and immediately walked out while I was there because the only 3 pieces of equipment were occupied. This property needs to know that the business travel clientele they market to expect a reasonable level of amenities for the room rates they charge. A decent exercise room is a must if a return stay is expected. I would imagine this property compares closer to a Red Roof Inn than what you’d expect from Marriott.

The location is great, walking distance to pretty much everything in Downtown Tempe. Tony the maintenance guy went above and beyond our expectations when we had a discrepancy with the linens. He decided to put a fridge in our room free of charge to help us feel more comfortable. I would highly recommend this location to all of my friends and family and will most definitely be staying here during my future vacations in the Phoenix area.

My daughter attends ASU and this is my go to hotel when I am in Tempe. Clean rooms, great pool, great location, excellent staff. I just call and ask for Ali and he takes care of everything. His customer service makes for a great experience every stay.

I stayed here for 2 nights for a conference. The rooms were clean and the staff very friendly. My room on the 3^rd floor was very quiet and there were no odd smells or dirty items.
My one complaint is that I had called for a wake-​up call. It never came. Totally unacceptable, especially since I had an important business meeting early in the morning. Luckily, I had set the alarm on my phone.

We stayed at this hotel New Year’s Eve. This hotel has a great location. It seemed really busy and there was a big event on Mill Avenue. We were in town to see a concert at the Marquee Theatre. We took a quick 5 minute Über ride to the Marquee and we actually just walked back to the Courtyard. It was a nice 20 minute walk across the bridges.
The bed was very comfortable and I loved the pillows. The room was spacious enough, clean, and fresh. Everything in the room was well maintained. There were plenty of towels, pillows, and blankets. The shower/​tub was basic, but it worked well. The soap provided smelled nice and the shampoo worked well. The heater also worked well without making the room too hot.
Some of the other reviewers seemed to have had a real problem with noise at this hotel, but our room was quiet all night. This is more than I expected with so many New Year’s revelers around. Our room was number 208 it overlooked the pool. I would recommend this room.
One thing that is a little difficult is parking at the hotel. There is only a small parking lot next to the hotel, not enough spaces. We had to park in a nearby parking garage which was a little bit of a walk especially if you are carrying your bags. The hotel charged us $ 8 a day for parking.
When I first arrived I had a glass of wine in the nice lobby bar area. The wine, for one glass of Chardonnay, cost $ 12. Why do hotels have to mark everything up?
Overall, I would stay in this hotel again, and I would recommend it.

Do NOT be fooled by the updated lobby. The rooms are disgusting. I am a frequent Marriott visitor and this is undoubtedly the grossest one I’ve ever seen. Did someone run out of toilet paper and drag their butt across the carpet to wipe? I checked into one room and complained and they gave me another equally as gross. RUN DOWN is an understatement.
I am toying with finding a different hotel. I have spent the last two weeks in various Marriotts and this is by far the worst.

I came to Tempe on a business trip and brought my wife and 15 month old daughter along for a mini-​vacation. The hotel itself is showing signs of dating however I am giving a 5 star rating based off customer service alone. They’ve been wonderful, accommodating and I feel liked having a little girl hanging out rather then the normal business folks. They have a great pool, decent menu, and a shuttle that will take you within a 5 mile radius. Do not take a taxi or rent a car from the airport if you do not need a car, tons of places around to walk to.

Where to begin? Our group had 5 rooms with wildly different prices. While the lobby has bee n updated, rooms are old, carpet dirty, and towels old and scratchy. I discovered cleaning supplies in my bathtub the first night, a blood stain on the carpet, and a friend found blood in her tub. The food appeared to be microwaved, and during breakfast at 8 AM, a worker mopped right by us with very smelly floor cleaner. Really? All this for $ 265? Pity the poor parents who can barely afford to send their kid to ASU who would think this a lovely place to stay. PASS!

Good location. Two minute walk to Mill Avenue. Clean hotel. Feels new inside. Friendly staff. I’ve stayed there 5+ times without any issues.

We booked a reservation at this hotel 5 months ago for myself and my boss. We where flying in at 10pm and called the hotel and spoke to Indy to let them know we would be arriving late. The hotel said it is a good thing you called as we are overbooked for the night and probably wont have a room for you. WTF??? How can you not have a room we have a reservation. Well they said that sometimes they overbook because they expect cancellations… AGAIN WTF??? if a person doesn’t show up then you charge there card… You don’t overbook thinking you will have cancellations. We learned this information at the airport while we where waiting for our flight to Phoenix. We went to ticket counter and cancelled our whole trip. I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN!!! DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! HORRIBLE!!!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in December while on a business trip. It was a decent hotel, but probably not what I would have chosen had I booked it myself.

–The rooms are reasonably nice. Enough space to move around in, and really nice pillows and mattresses. I though the sheets were a little scratchy though.
–At least in our room, the shower head was fantastic. A good shower with good pressure is basically one of the key standards by which I judge my stay in a hotel. if I can’t get a good rinse on my hair, I’m going to look like a basket-​case all day.
–Public computers to print boarding passes.
–The lobby is pretty nice and expansive. If you’re eating breakfast there, you won’t feel cramped or on top of other guests.
–Proximity to restaurants, bars, etc. It’s not close enough to be loud, but close enough to walk.

–They only had a room on the first floor available (and only two queen beds, despite our request otherwise). The first floor room window’s were facing the parking lot, so you basically couldn’t open the blinds at all or you would risk someone seeing into your room.
–You couldn’t get breakfast or coffee from the café before 6am. For a business hotel, I figured they’d start a little earlier. We had to leave for the airport at about 5:45am, and it was a little annoying not being able to get anything to munch on.
–Related, the breakfast options were overpriced and not very good. I guess that’s to be expected from a hotel?
–The front desk is usually empty. A little annoying. Sometimes I found the front desk staff rude or unknowledgeable. We were in AZ during a freak rainy week, and the front desk was unclear/​inconsistent about whether there were any umbrellas to borrow.

Indi was awesome! She was very helpful & went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. I found the staff very friendly, the price ($ 109/​night) was decent and the place is recently updated with a modern feel. The bathrooms are rather small but the rooms are the perfect size for two people.
There are public computers to use in the lobby and an area to print your boarding pass. The Bistro hours are not great. They only serve breakfast and dinner. So be prepared to eat elsewhere for lunch. The also have an area to buy sodas, beer, candy, ect in the front.
There is plenty of parking and they have security during the night time.

I really love this place, they have a pool a gym a deli and even a little market that you can buy toothpaste, chips, drinks etc. I especially love the customer service ! A girl working the front desk named Rebecca is very nice and helpful I give this place a five star rating.

This hotel is in a great location. Close to the airport and lots of places to grab a bite nearby. The place is clean and the staff is very nice. My room was big with a soft bed. Marriott will not let you down.

came back late at night — the room was smelling bad, and I found that the tub was completely filthy with… I’lll spare you the details. I was moved to another room, but I am still waiting for an apology, a staff member suggesting to cover for the night… avoid by all means

I’m not sure why this place doesn’t have a better rating on Unilocal than it does but I’ll do my part to contribute to improving it.
I stayed at the Courtyard Tempe Downtown for two nights last week on business. I immediately really liked the lobby area. It was welcoming and inviting and there were plenty of business travelers relaxing with a drink or coffee and getting work done on their computers. After a brief respite in my room I immediately joined the group and spent several hours getting work done in the lobby. The wifi was great and I also appreciated their business center and being able to print for free.
My room was equally pleasing to me. It was clean and spacious. I also appreciated the comfortable bed.
Finally, one of the great things about this hotel is it’s proximity to so many things. There are a ton of bars and restaurants nearby and it is also very close to Sky Harbor Airport.
All in all I had no complaints about this hotel and would recommend it to any traveler!

Very solid hotel. The beds were great, rooms were big, and the access to Mill Ave was great. The elevators threw me off as I thought they were service elevators but they work and that is what is important, right?
The staff seemed friendly and the bar area was clean. The lobby looked a lot more chic than the rooms but that is to be expected. Like I said, the rooms were still nice.
I would definitely stay here again. I just didn’t stay in the hotel much to really figure out if it deserves higher. For the time I was there, 3 stars is more than adequate.

I’ve always liked staying at a Marriott hotel, however, this particular area is a different story. My sister and I stayed for 3 days for personal trip to the university. The lobby is small, clean, and nice. The hotel does not have room service or in room movies to rent. There is a little café within the lobby that serves only breakfast and dinner. They serve Starbucks coffee, but lack the fancy machines. I ordered an egg-​white, ham, and avocado breakfast sandwich. It was delicious.
First night: My sister pulled out the luggage rack from the closet, only to find a dirty underwear. It was pretty hilarious at the time, but looking back at it now, it was unacceptable. We called the front desk to have someone remove the rack and the underwear. This is when I decided to sanitize the room with my Clorox wipes.
Next Morning: We were rudely disrupted by the sound of the smoke alarm in our room. At first, I thought it was my Instyler, since I was heating it up. I was in the bathroom when this happened and couldn’t get out fast enough because I was doing my «business» and thought, «Surely, it couldn’t be what I ate.» I quickly ran out of the bathroom and opened our door to the hallway see what is going on, only to find out it was only our room that had the alarm on. We called the front desk and they said they were testing the smoke alarms, but they were testing our room instead of an empty room. Someone came up and fixed the problem.
Last night of the trip on wee early morning: We were awaken by a loud knock on our door at 1am by someone yelling, «Security.» My sister jumped out of bed and looked through the peep hole and saw a security guard. She slightly opened the door and the security guard said they had a message that we were smoking in our room. My sister was already angry and told the guy to come in to see if he’d like to see. She yelled at him and told him that we were sleeping. He apologized.
I gave 2 stars for the friendly staff at the front desk and shuttle service to the university and airport.

I’ve stayed in worse but I’ve also stayed in much better. On check in my room had already been paid for but they didn’t check closely enough and debited my card for 4 more days plus an incidentals charge which was great to have that money held in a pending state for an entire week. The cleaning ladies spoke no English and showed up at the most random and inconsistent times (1:30pm, 8:30am, 3pm and I finally just gave up and locked the door and they banged on it for 30 minutes).
Tempe is always pretty loud with airplanes, as it is so close to the airport, but the room I stayed in seemed to have less sound insulation than other places I’ve stayed so it seemed louder than usual and then I got a fantastic surprise of super loud trains adjacent to the hotel that take awhile to rumble past (I was in the army and I’m pretty good at sleeping through almost anything but the only louder thing I’ve attempted to sleep through was when I had to camp out next to howitzers firing all night). There are multiple trains that go by in the course of the night so don’t think you will only hear one so expect several to shake you out of your slumber. This hotel is conveniently located but for nearly the same price the Tempe Mission Palms is a much better location with a much better nights sleep.
