I’m writing this review as a visitor. A friend of mine is doing her PhD here in geology and I went to campus with her one day to take a look. Tempe is definitely a college town for ASU and not much else, with probably more bicycles than cars around, and if it’s possible, definitely ride to school instead of driving.
The campus is right next to Phoenix and very close to the airport so that is definitely a convenient location. There are also some mesas and small hills on campus that provide easy access for a casual hike during a boring school day.
The school grounds were kept really well and the buildings, from what I saw, were very new and clean. A lot of buildings are red in color thanks to the red sandstone! People are laid-​back and friendly. Because of all the bikes, they’re also building a secured area for students to store their bikes which is pretty thoughtful.
Some people say this is a party school, but it probably just applies to the undergrad level. When you get to the graduate level, everyone including the one who drinks the most, is serious about school at this point.
I got to check out their on-​campus restaurant and the new earth and planetary exploration building. Wow the new building looks like a science center and a Manhattan office building mixed together with a reception, 4 elevators, 7 floors, movie theatre and a room with glass windows displaying what the students and faculty are currently building, not to mention the big toys and models in the lobby. The planetary science part definitely overshadows the earth science department here because they receive more funding especially from NASA.
ASU, especially in the graduate level, has received a lot of funding and conducted a lot of research over the years. The town is pretty boring, but it’s really a decent school to go to if you find a professor that you like to work with.

I thoroughly enjoyed my undergrad education at ASU/​this campus! Everything you need is within walking distance and Mill is right next-​door. My professors at the W. P. Carey School of Business both challenged me and fostered my growth. Football games are super festive and the atmosphere is definitely that of a college town. There are plenty of clubs and organizations to get involved with and if you are an incoming student, I encourage you to join some!
Keep in mind: if you’re coming from out of state, you may be surprised by the price for parking here. However, fork over the cash and you’ll be happy you did. I loved having a permit for the Rural structure during my time at ASU and it definitely paid off in the long run with timing and convenience over the further out but cheaper lots.

Online MBA program is opening up opportunities for me. Definitely value added. The technology side was great. The professors were excellent for the most part. When I had to go for orientation and graduated I was impressed with the facilities too.

Honestly, I wish I could say better things about ASU but it’s just another college in it for the money. The past year I had a majority of professors who didn’t explain assignments or expectations. I went through 3 advisers before I finally had one who stayed. The dean of my particular college proceeded to tell us at an event how she never received a college degree and how we need to work hard to earn one. She also joked about how when we earn a lot of money how we should meet her for lunch and give the college a million dollars.
The good parts of this college is that the campus is pretty nice. There seems to be a very active student life if you are able to live on campus. They promote lots of bike parking everywhere and have some decent services available on campus. Their health services are fantastic! They offer a ton of online classes which is convenient, except they charge extra fees to use them when in actuality it saves them money from using resources on campus.
The parking situation is pretty bad. It costs a fortune to park your car anywhere near campus. My suggestion, take night classes and park up the street where the meters end at 6. It will help cut down on parking prices.
For the price and quality, I sadly have to give this place 3 stars. Every year the price goes up and there are hidden fees added. Ask around before you make a big decision to go here.

My degree from ASU prepared me to compete effectively for access to social programs such as unemployment, cash assistance, Medicaid, and food stamps as I near 30. Thanks ASU! Go Sun Devils!

I am an online student. I was placed in a local intern placement where I was sexually harassed by the supervisor. ASU pulled me from the placement and expects me to repay to take the same course again when none of it was my fault ($ 500+ for a one credit course). Further, my husband also is an ASU student we are both majoring in the same area. They are continually up his butt for all different problems from 3 way phone conferences to placement phone calls and then they want him to register for more courses even though he can’t budget it. After these last two internships he has one or two classes left. He had to give up his job to do a fulltime internship to finish his degree so I would say he and I have both been very dedicated to finishing our education. However, ASU is just about impossible to work with and there are days they are worse than bill collectors with riding him for more money, for more time, for more everything. They even dictated how we couldn’t move because they’d need to know the address right away to get internship placements by June or July. They took until September finding him the internship location so that was false. It is just a nightmare. It is soul sucking and draining. The curriculum is graded to these rubrics so don’t expect to input any creative input or say into your work. You recite what they want you to with quoted sources from books and websites they give you to work with only. There are so many students you never work with a teacher but instead with a «grader» you never get to know much about. I wouldn’t recommend doing their online education program. At this point in time going local or moving to an area with a local education program would have been a better option. He is going to complete his additional certification for SPED at WSU after finishing the degree this Spring, if he finishes it. They have tried every roadblock they can.

I am so very disappointed in my dear alma mater. When I was a student, I bled maroon and gold. I loved the campus and connected personally with many professors who were very willing to help me with my post-​graduation goals. I felt like my education was adequate (graduated summa cum laude), though it was clear that one could easily breeze by and still graduate if they desired. I had a mostly good experience as an undergraduate, and this is in comparison to two other universities that I had attended previously.
After graduation, I moved to the east coast. I made the mistake once of proudly declaring my alma mater in front of a group of peers, to which they replied, «Isn’t that a party school?» I was crushed to learn that others did not seem to take ASU (and therefore my degree) very seriously. Thankfully, I attended a respectable east coast university when I earned my graduate degree.
Unfortunately, ASU is incredibly profit driven for a state school. It has come to my attention that within the last 5 years, full time in-​state tuition has risen from $ 3,500 per semester to over $ 5,000. These prices are near those of the University of Phoenix (notoriously expensive and lacking in educational value). Additionally, it has been my observation that ASU continues to follow the UoP business model by hiring masses of contract-​only, adjunct instructors rather than full-​time lecturers or tenure track professors. This saves the school money and «McDonaldizes» educational delivery. Many of their programs are now online — so many, in fact, that some people actually think ASU is an online institution. They have cut traditional university studies (upon which the American university was founded) such as their Ph.D. in sociology, yet retain many vocational/​technical programs. A friend of mine told me that Michael Crow has even cut the student counseling center. It’s heart breaking. :-(
Like I said, I am saddened. I once loved my school but it seems that many things have changed since I was a student.

Can we get some ESPN in the Hassayampa H dorms. Our RA is getting pissed so we need to get this problem fixed please. Thank you for your time.

This campus is beautiful! Grab a book, learn something!

With 2014 enrollment breaching the 50,000 mark– this campus is widespread and large. As expected, it has evolved over the years to focus on many tech/​bio areas of education while continuing to do what it has always done well (Fulton School of Education, Cronkite School of Journalism, W.P. Carey School of Business, etc.). The campus, while sprawling, is rather easy to navigate. Some of the more memorable landmarks are «Palm Walk», «Memorial Union», and the University Bridge. The dorms are newer and look expensive to me, oh and there’s plenty of great places to eat/​shop/​explore on Mill Ave. The Chuckbox is a semi-​historic burger and brew shop– don’t expect much when you visit but the food is excellent. Sun Devil Stadium is old, and ready for a facelift (they’re working on a refurbishment in the 9-​figure range) and Sun Angel stadium is a great place to catch the always-​fun Sun Devil baseball team. Fear the Fork!

ASU is alright, but the misogynistic and distasteful library bathroom etchings ruin the place. A bunch of expensive buildings to house a bunch of dung-​head kids. Woo yay go sun devils! TEACH EM HOW TO ROT.

I prefer the satellite campuses compared to the main campus. I really wish that I have the resource and things to stay near other campuses.

Every time that I visit this area, I get more & more amazed on how beautiful this campus looks as well as what it has to offer. Although I can easily pursue a doctoral degree here (I don’t need a Phd as of yet), ASU-​Tempe would be a considerable choice based on its educational background, location and ultimate appeal to those that aren’t local to the Phoenix. And besides, I really enjoy hiking «A» mountain, which is adjacent to SunDevil Stadium as well as the abandoned mill next door.
I’m definitely coming back here. UA in Tucson isn’t as comparable. Love y’all SunDevils!

This review is STRICTLY for campus navigation and aesthetics, not quality of education or daily life and living.
Walking paths are generally wide.
At night the student union area has huge lights that shift from green to blue, etc. which is nice.
It’s not too hard to find your way around campus, even if you’re new.
But the student union is closed before 9 p.m. which is pathetic compared to other schools.
It’s an okay looking campus and there are some buildings adjacent to some ‘mountains’ which looks interesting from far away but the whole campus seems kinda cramped.
Believe it or not, it’s better looking than Stanford but not as nice as Iowa State U. or as convenient as George Mason University.
There’s an odd choice of a statue of a horse opposite the parking garage that had me baffled for a minute.
Will update this once I get more relevant experience with the quality of education offered.

Harvard on the Salt.

This review is solely off of the bookstores because my experienced as a student here were awful.
I LOVE the amount of resources here. As a masters student at another school, I still come here to do research due to the sheer amount of books available to students.
As an alumnus, it is GARBAGE that we have to pay RIDICULOUSLY inflated alumni fees to even check out a book. That is why it lost a star.

During our 4 day trip we met a lot of people– and a lot of those diverse amount of people went to college here and continued to live in the area. Beautiful campus! We walked around on Sunday morning and ran into a martial arts class and student activities occurring outside. Beautiful sculptures, gardens, and pathways. It’s one of those must do’s if you are visiting the area considering it’s the highlight of the town. I’m glad that we did the walk and took pictures.

It’s a decent in state university, know tons of guys coming in and out no problem. Most of them have finished three year degrees and such because it’s that manageable at ASU if you’re on top of your game.
If you live in state, there are so many opportunities for scholarships, it’s basically a free ride if you can get into one of them. After that, it’s like any other university — gotta shift through the good and bad professors through word of mouth.
ASU is kind of known as the party school, but the business school is pretty strong here. Given the price you’re paying as a resident, ASU is not a bad choice for furthering your education.
