Specialties
Whispering Meadows Ranch is a Thoroughbred Retirement. We rehab, retrain and rehome ex-race horses. We also offer riding and horsemanship lessons for beginner to intermediate riders. If you are looking for a Thoroughbred or horse for show, competition or just for pleasure call us first. We have many horses available for adoption and the horses can be tested for compatibility through our lesson program or our youth day camps. We are a 501 (c)(3) charity, all proceeds from adoptions or our programs go back into our program to help us with our mission «Saving Horses».
History
Established in 1996.
We were founded in 1996 when Segrid Lunde was given a retired Thoroughbred from Hollywood Park, California. The horse had minor injuries from racing and needed care. After about 6 months of rehabilitation, she began to train it using her knowledge of ‘natural horsemanship’ and put him to work as a lesson horse. He was eventually adopted by one of the children that was taking riding lessons, she fell in love with him and had to have him for her own.
Segrid realized that there was a need for this service and she has been «Saving Horses» ever since. Whispering Meadows Ranch was made official in 2009 when Segrid was approved as an official charitable organization and has saved over 900 horses to date that may have been euthanized or worse. We now continue to do our work at our 16 acre facility, nestled in Wine Country, in the heart of the beautiful Temecula Valley.
