Indian Point Ostrich Ranch

This is definitely a place to check out if you are in the area. It’s free to walk around and look at the ostrich. I definitely recommend spending the $ 3 to feed them though.

A great little diversion off the beaten path for our family of 5 with elementary-​aged kids. The picnic are and small obstacle course entertained the kids enough for us to catch our breath after a long day on the road while headed to Vegas. The staff were warm and welcoming to us, the facilities are clean and cared for, and feeding ostriches is just about one of the strangest and funniest experiences to do as a family for under $ 10.
Well worth the time spent there.

Our daughter have previously gone here for a summer field trip with Wonder Window. Our son was too young at that time so his class of younger kids were not allowed to go. We went on a day trip to Tehachapi one day just to spend some quality time with the kids. We got some goodies from a local bakeshop and had lunch there. Then we decided to head out to the Ostrich Ranch and check it out. They have a larger property away from the ranch that’s open to the public where they keep more of the wilder ones out. The more domesticated ones are kept at this property where they have their office, gift shop and visitors area. It was a great experience to see the ostriches up close and feeding them! Kids loved the experience and they went home with some souvenirs from the gift shop… including a photoshopped picture of them riding on the back of an ostrich! Pretty cool!!!

I went here yesterday with my honey and we had so much fun. We went to the smallish enclosure and fed the ostriches and as others mentioned it is intense, better hold onto pan with two hands. After the food was gone the ostriches kept biting us, and even stole Anna’s straw hat during a «selfie» moment. When they bite it does not hurt, but they are aggressive before during and after feeding. Overall it was fun, if you like driving just to be driving, try it out.
I would probably consider this 4 ½ stars, but rounding down as it is very limited on what you see.

I enjoyed myself quite a bit here. We just walked in and after paying a nominal fee, we were handed our feeders and lead towards the ostriches. They are all inside their pens so you can’t touch them but ostriches are mean so you wouldn’t want to be that close to these birds anyways. They all crowded around the fence pecking away at your feeder until all the pellets are gone. It was really fun to see them so close. There is also a small gift shop selling odd trinkets and some ostrich goods. They offered to give us a tour of the farm but we only wanted to feed them, so we declined (maybe next time).

A fun experience although there were not that many ostrich you could actually interact with (a total of 5) and no emus.
The staff were very nice and friendly and the shop had some cool products.
If you are eating at Moessner’s (hugely recommend), stop by.

My husband and i went on a whim when passing through to Bakersfield and we were not disappointed! While it was an adventure to find, the find was well worth it. THe ranch is small but super adorable with a playground for kids and even an antique shop! Our tour guide was the assistant manager and he was extremely knowledgable. I had no idea ostriches were so neat! :-) We ended up buying some oil and a duster but I’m sure we’ll be back for more when the babies hatch!

I have been to Indian Point Ostrich Ranch on several occasions over the past fifteen years. It is truly a unique and fun place to visit. Almost each time I go to see friends, who live in Tehachapi, I stop in. I really like checking out the baby and juvenile ostrich and emu, which are kept separated by age groups in different pens. I also like checking out the paired, adult «breeders.»
Indian Point used to incubate eggs, but they have passed on that business to a ranch in another state. In the past, I have bought and taken ostrich eggs back to our L.A. digs to make into giant (and I mean GIANT) omelets, but I forgot to ask this time if they are still being sold.
During the summer, Indian Point has employees who offer «insider» tours to visitors for a small fee, which gets donated for research into maintenance and development of adult ostrich, which apparently is an on-​going project for most ostrich farmers. During the tours, they let you feed the birds. Schools take students on buses to the ranch year round.
Starting sometime in late October or November, tour hours are reduced to just two days a week. (Better call ahead before planning a visit).
This place is really a lot of fun, for both adults and kids. I highly recommend checking it out if you are ever in Tehachapi.

Awesome place! Best part is definitely feeding the big birds! And also the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable! Definitely a must visit place if you’re in the area. They also have great discounts during holidays!

We visited the Ostrich farm late April on Sunday afternoon.
(My wife says that she has wanted to do this since she was a little girl. There fore we made a special trip on our return from the eastern sierra’s to stop in.)
Finding the farm is tricky but well worth the effort.
Our tour guide, Michael was very easy to listen to and he definitely had an appreciation for the work he is doing.
The birds are just incredible.
They pecked at my hand and the sleeves of my jacket when within their reach.
Their peck is firm but not really painful. They were very entertaining.
The Ostrich history is that they are from dinosaurs, How cool is that.
My six year old son really got a kick out of the experience.
This is something we will talk about for years to come.
Highly recommend visiting.

I love this place. I used to live in Tehachapi and drive by to see the ostriches. This was the first time I actually drove up and visited it. No trip to Tehachapi is complete until coming here! We got to feed some baby ostriches which was fun, and then visited the adorable gift shop and left with far me than I wanted to, but they have awesome stuff! You can sit on a plank of wood and get photoshopped onto a giant ostrich which makes for a hilarious souvenir. I love the ostrich stuffed animals and earrings. We will be back on our next visit as well.

Adorable place and incredibly friendly staff. My kids and I had a blast feeding the Ostrich. Nice presentation by staff, informative and interesting. The valley where the farm is located is gorgeous. You can picnic there and the restrooms were very clean. My kids enjoyed the playground. The gift shop was so fun, I bought myself a wonderful Ostrich Feather Duster. Between feeding the Ostrich and the duster I spent less than $ 20 which I thought was a bargain. My kid’s can’t stop talking about their visit.

I had a trip out to Tehachapi, CA with my daughters and wanted to find something for us to do while there so I looked it up and found this place and decided to check it out. Both my daughters and I were very pleased. Nice family atmosphere and very sweet AND knowledgeable staff. We all had a good time and may even be back for more ostrich goodies on our next trip out there!
They have a recommended $ 4 donation per tour, if you can, do the tour, otherwise you’re looking at something you may know nothing about. After taking the tour, I was glad I did, otherwise I would have just been walking around and um… yeah…take the tour!
They have a cool little souvenir shop too, I definitely enjoyed THAT!

Tehachapi is a unique place in the high desert of California. The wind is always present and the temperature year round is amazingly cool.
Would recommend this off the road destination. Must be an animal lover. The Ostrich is a very unique bird and the docent is there to teach you it’s many uses. Staff, very helpful and informative.
Oil and lotion of the Ostrich are amazing.
Within a short driving distance there are also an Alpaca Farm, Llama Farm, the Norbertine Sisters Nunnery that processes their own cheese.
Also wineries and their famous apple orchards.
We were not able to visit the above venues. Upon our return to this area we will visit them.

we had wanted to see this place after watching an episode on TV — but were disappointed. This place is is way off and is more like an actual farm with limited Ostrich related recreation. You can pay the 4 dollars for a tour but we were not impressed with the place.
They have a lot of playground for children and the store is really good.
we did buy the Orstrich egg for $ 45 and an egg stand. They have alot of egg art.
They don’t sell Ostrich Meat — but have frozen shelf in Albertsons where you could get it if you wanted too — which was a bummer.
They suggested to try the Burger joint near the highway — which sells their meat — which was a very shady burger joint near Costco. They did not list the price for Ostrich burger and charged $ 10 for the Burger.
Anyway it was nice drive on ur return but would not be interested in seeing it again — the Solvang one is much better

very pleasant farm. very informative. they have a star ostrish name Ralph whose been featured Fear factor discoverychannel and mega death music video. small gift shop. tours are $ 4 per person. the female ostrich really enjoyed peckingat my ARM. it really hurts. Ralph was more gentle.

This place was a pleasant surprise! Stumbled here after seeing a brochure at a local eatery when my family and I went apple picking. My mom expressed interest in seeing if they were still open, so we went on a little adventure!
I would strongly suggest paying the extra few dollars for a tour as there is very little information otherwise. Feeding the ostriches is also interesting… if not a little intense!
Overall a great experience. Not sure if I would ever return, as it is out of the way and once is probably enough. But I do suggest trying it out!
