First thing I thought of this place when i walked in was where is everyone haha just me and the ppl that work here was here, but the place is nice and they make some good burrito with the rice and beans in it. But I would of liked it if they would of put more steak in my burrito with out me telling them to. So I give this place 3 starts. I hope u enjoy your burrito.

I have been to this location three times. The service started out terrible. The counter people were not helpful and seemed bored. But by the third visit there were two employees who did make the experience pleasant by making suggestions and having a smile on their face. Now the food. It’s just not anything special. And the price is high. I gave this place two stars and that was for the customer service last time. But I probably won’t be going back.

Freebirds is awful. Hard tortilla, no flavor, looks like they just get a bunch of canned ingretients from walmart and toss it in and somehow its suppose to taste good. I dont get it.

This is for the 5600 W. Location. Pretty boring burrito. Chips were good. Rice was under cooked. Probably will not return. I like my burritos with flavor.

Meh, basically a burrito. Rice was mushy and yet had hard undercooked pieces in it. Burrito was also cold. Sure they have a unique theme, but the food doesn’t reflect the same enthusiasm. Café Rio is better in my book, they give you bigger portions and the burrito is hot.

I must have come on an off day. Service was not the best. Let’s hope the puny portions of what was left tastes good. I am doing the 4 hour body and I was attracted to the grass fed meat. I may come back.

Service was top notch. Friendly greetings from every employee as I entered. Once I started to place my order, one employee took care of me until the end. She was very courteous, attentive, and friendly and I hope to find her again. Dining area was clean and comfortable. I didn’t care for the flavor of my burrito but as I consider my choices I have nobody to blame but my own poor impulse decisions. Because I was distracted and wasn’t watching the burrito, I added filings with reckless abandon. Bad move for flavor, good move for volume. Next time I’ll listen to my tongue. …ummm, something about a brownie… good service… Need to serve milk with the brownies.

Food — excellent Price — too high total ticket Service — standard I REALLY like Freebird’s food, and I will even go so far as to say it is higher quality than average. So they should be able to charge more right? And it’s not like they’re charging an arm and a leg right? Truthfully $ 7 for their midsize burrito is ok, but then you tack on $ 2 for a drink and the always annoying«tip at the register» and you are up to $ 11 for very little food. And if you want any extras(guac, desert, chips & salsa) you are moving up rapidly to the $ 15 – 20 range. Across the street is an Asian buffet where you would also pay $ 11 and eat great variety of both great and mediocre food. Leaves you feeling a little gypped to get a smallish burrito for the same price — just 1 tortilla, rice/beans and a spoonful of meat. But it IS good food — fresh tasting, very comparable quality to Café Rio but less selection. Service is usually good too.

If there is one thing that really gets my goat when it comes to chain places it’s lack of consistency. I have been to the Sandy location several times and even though the service is a little. Scattered… I always felt like I was getting a good value for my dollar food wise. I found myself closer to the Redwood Rd location today and I have to say… Guhh… At almost $ 9 for a burrito bowl I expect a decent amount of food, or at least the same amount as the other location. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the portion I received was about half of what I had at the other location. Now, it is possible that the other location is being overly generous, but if so, then there needs to be a meeting of the minds where we all get on the same page portion wise. I actually really like this place and I want to see it successful, so really, this is more constructive criticism than a scathing review.

I love that this chain came to our little neighborhood. While I wish they would have taken up residency in one of the empty buildings we have instead of taking over another burrito joint, I love that this place is clean and friendly. They are a bit pricey but they do allow you to have as many toppings as you’d like. The problem with that is if you don’t use all that many toppings it seems kind of a rip off for the price.

Very disappointed in this location. I have been anxious to try Freebird and this was the closest location to us. The service was extremely slow. They were out if steak and had low staff on a Friday night… Poor planning? The area they were dishing up toppings was disorganized and full of messy dishes. The burrito was okay but the rice was cooked poorly. I may give Freebird another try but definitely not this location. :(

Freebirds is cool. They have pot brownies! It’s just brownies they sell out of a pot, but at least it’s a start. The vibe here is laid-back, casual and fun. The service is great and they’re helpful for first-timers. Of course, the most important part of a burrito joint is the burrito. The burrito here is good. Really good. I had the grass-fed steak burrito, Freebird size(medium) on a spinach tortilla. They have a couple dozen toppings/mix-ins/condiments to choose from, which allows for maximum burrito customization. I loaded mine up fully with roasted veggies, salsas, cheese, beans and several other items. It was bursting at the seams, but still stayed in tact — with help from the tin foil — until I ate the last bite. I was completely full and satisfied, but I had a strange feeling that I don’t usually have after devouring a large burrito… I felt GOOD! The burrito was actually somewhat healthful and didn’t leave me with that ugggg feeling I often have after eating a Mexi lunch. If this location served beer, I’d consider 5 stars. I’ll definitely be back to try some other meat and condiment combinations. I hope this place survives and thrives, but I worry about this location, since this building is a notorious«Bermuda Triangle» of disappearing restos. Godspeed, Freebirds. May the force be with you.

Love the selection of fresh, quality ingredients, the ambiance, and the concept, but feel that it’s a bit overpriced. Particularly with the 2 teaspoons of cheese they put on the Hybird – why bother? Also, they didn’t have roasted limes because limes are currently so expensive, but isn’t that what we’re paying for? By the time you work your way down the steam tables, there’s no way that you’re going to get a piping hot burrito at the end. That’s OK, I just adjusted my expectations the second visit. Warning: don’t pick up a moist chocolaty pot brownie unless you want to get hooked on them!

It’s a solid three stars. Been here twice now since they opened. Both times had the steak burrito on a spinach wrap, but varied my toppings. My steak was juicy and tender and had great flavor. I love the fact you have more then one type of tortilla to choose from and spinach is a favorite. Their guacamole is so-so but the green sauce at the sauce station is awesome. I saw other reviews here describing how their food was not hot and I can give one reason why… The service behind the counter is soooo sloooowww. On both visits it took a long time to be served, then when you are one employee takes you down the line. On my 2nd visit, there was no one at the register so the line got long from the time your burrito was done until you can finally pay. Gives enough time for your food to cool down. On my last visit, it seemed like they didn’t have enough employees there to serve the customers. And they all looked like teens so it didn’t appear there was a manager on duty to keep things going. Over all the food is good, but if you’re in a rush, I don’t advise stopping here. It just takes so long

Im not gonna downgrade my rating. This may have been one of those days. I ordered the steak burrito with all the fixins and it was disappointing. The steak was bland and kinda cold. I dont think consistency is too much to ask for, is it? Lets try this again…

The last thing we need in this State is another burrito joint. What we DO need, and now have, is a burrito shop with a different twist. What it isn’t: Another burrito shop with the basics of meat, cheese, and beans in a tortilla. Another shop where you have to sell a kidney for a side of guacamole. What it is: Fresh ingredients inside of a few different tortilla options(I tried the cayenne and loved it. A restaurant without canned food. A place that doesn’t have a freezer. Hormone-free meats. The taste is definitely different than the competition with some different salsas and a lot of different toppings. Grilled limes, toasted garlic, fresh corn salsa, grilled veggies are just a few. Give it a shot. You will like the differences that set this place apart from the competition.

I’m going to go ahead and give this a 3 star since I can’t do a 3.5. I was thrilled when I saw a decent looking burrito place that wasn’t Café Rio. I loved the look and atmosphere of the place, and the menu is fantastic. The different types of tortillas are great. I had a cayenne tortilla with carnitas and all sorts of toppings. They have more toppings than most burrito places, which is awesome. The spanish rice inside my burrito was fantastic. The meat was alright, but could use a little more flavor. Luckily all the other toppings made up for it. One thing that drove me crazy was the tinfoil they wrap your burrito in. It was only coming off in tiny sliver by tiny sliver for me, which gets annoying when you’re hungry and ready to eat. I wish it was served on a plate instead of wrapped up, but I guess that’s just how it is. The tortilla kept getting stuck on my teeth as well, which doesn’t happen at other places. The sauces they have out in the dispensers are great. They’ve got mild, hot and BBQ sauces that are fantastic. Again, I wish my burrito was on a plate so I could have just poured the sauces all over it instead of doing it bite by bite. Overall the burrito was great and the price was right. We had two good sized burritos for about $ 15 total and we both left full. Great place to go and I’ll be back soon.

So I’m originally from Texas… so LOVE Free Birds. I am familiar with their menu, sauces and set-up. I was expecting the same quality food as my previous experiences, but this new location fell very short. First I want to say that the lady helping me with my meal was super nice. She was the ONLY positive in my dining experience. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and chips with queso. My quesadilla was horrible: cold, dry chicken, non-crisp tortilla and bland tasting toppings. The chips were salted just right and the queso was tasty. I also tried the brownie which was ginormous but dry. I’m not sure I will be back and since Utah has only one location so far… I might be returning to Texas for a bird fix!

Now that I finally paid for my first meal here, I feel I can write a review. Sure this is another Texas chain in Utah but there’s nothing wrong with that because they are good and open Sundays! Pretty much everything is made the same day with the exception of a few items, enough that I can only count on one hand. Which is pretty amazing given the number of items and thus, number of combinations to choose from. First choice is how you want your food, salad, plate, burrito. Say you choose a burrito, then you have to choose which of the four sizes. Then which flavor of tortilla, I recommend the cayenne-flavorful but not spicy. Then your meat, beans and so on. Someone has done the math as to how many combinations are possible.(Insert Asian stereotype joke) Maybe that’s their trick to get you coming back, trying out different ways until you find one that works for you. I have yet to find a combination that really sets Freebirds apart from the other burrito rollers. What stood out: the pot brownie! and at $ 2 you should get this every time. What was meh: nothing, even their hot sauce was very hot at all. Not sure where the BBQ sauce comes in either. If they had a steak and potato burrito, the BBQ would be perfect. Queso, some liked it, I did not. It had a weird texture, flavor and consistency that wasn’t for me. In short, Freebirds is a great option to have, I can’t wait til they open more locations especially closer to me but I wouldn’t make a special trip just for a burrito when others are closer. Oh yeah, just like the other burrito roller places, it gets noisy really fast.

Full disclosure: I have have a BIT of a pro-Freebirds bias. I went to college at Texas A&M, which is where Freebirds gained its popularity. One of the first locations is across the street from campus, and love of Freebirds burritos is a bit of an Aggie tradition. But college ended and I had to leave College Station, and my job led me here, a long away from any Freebirds locations. A small sacrifice. I tried many burritos in town, and few compared to what I remembered from college. Mountain West is up there, but it’s also in Utah County. I would often say to anyone who cared to listen(and many who didn’t care to listen) that Utah needed a Freebirds. Or several. It was my dream, but a dream I never thought would be realized. Why would Freebirds ever come to Utah? BUTTHEYDIDYOUGUYS. Jeffrey told me Freebirds was coming to Utah some months ago and I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it. Then doubt started to creep in. What if Freebirds came to Utah and they messed it up and it was gross? Or what if I was putting that burrito on a pedestal? What if my college memories were inaccurate?(Sorry guys, I’m a neurotic Jew. This happens sometimes.) So there was a Unilocal event at the first Utah Freebirds location and I nervously entered and went through the line and made my burrito. I sat down and sampled it. Was it as good as I remembered? ABSOLUTELY! But then I was like, there’s booze at this event. I’ve had some booze. Can I really be objective about this burrito? So I came back some weeks later after the grand opening and had another burrito and it was glorious. Fresh ingredients? Check. Entirely too many burrito-related choices? Check. Friendly service? Check. It’s like I remembered, except they have carnitas, which they didn’t have when I was in college. The only bad thing I can think of is that it’s in Taylorsville and not next door to my house. Utah now has Freebirds. My dream has come true. My life is complete. Ok, maybe not COMPLETE, but complete in the world of burritos. Go check it out sometime.
