History
Established in 1972.
The station began operation in 1972 and has been owned by Carolina Christian Broadcasting throughout its history. It is the oldest independent station in South Carolina, and was also the first new commercial station to sign on in the market since WSPA-TV in 1956. In recent years, WGGS has been carried on cable in multiple areas outside of the Upstate media market. That includes cable systems within the Columbia market in South Carolina, the Charlotte market in North Carolina, and the Augusta market in Georgia.
