Specialties

LILA provides a nurturing environment for its students to embark on their life long journey of learning. As a not-for-profit International Baccalaureate (IB) /French Baccalaureate (FB) school, LILA combines the best of the French and the US educational systems. LILA is dedicated to forming critical thinkers, well-versed in a variety of subjects, who are able to express themselves confidently in a minimum of two languages.

LILA provides a rigorous academic program in a multi-lingual, multicultural environment that embraces the philosophy and curriculum of the French educational system as its foundation. It is a challenging journey that starts in the formative pre-school years and reaches fruition in its high school programs. The focus is on learning to learn, learning to think, and learning to process knowledge and information. By adopting this active approach to learning, LILA fulfills its mission.

History

Established in 1978.

LILA was founded by visionaries of varied cultural backgrounds who felt that the Los Angeles community needed a school which would prepare children for life in an increasingly international environment. Since the majority of the founders had a French background, they chose the French educational system as the foundation for LILA’s curriculum. In 34 years, LILA has evolved from its original small house in Van Nuys with seven students to four formal campuses with almost 900 students. LILA has earned an enviable reputation with the placement of graduates in French universities, grandes écoles and at top American universities.
