K9s Only

My very timid, stubborn, smart little 7 year-​old dog (recently rescued from the L.A. Animal Shelter) just graduated from a beginners’ Group Training Class at K9s Only. Yaye Obie! The classes more than lived up to my expectations. I can’t say enough wonderful things about master trainers, Corey, Max and Anja. They were excellent! No harsh methods used here, just lots of good technique, patience, kindness and consistency for the dogs — and owners, because of course the owners have to be trained as well! :) I came away from the training classes with a much better understanding of how to work with my little guy to increase his self-​confidence while teaching him basic obedience. K9s Only is also an excellent boarding facility (best I’ve seen) and will be Obie’s home away from home when I travel. I am so grateful to have found this wonderful facility with such a professional staff.

First off– we never got passed the initial two phone calls. So this review is solely based on those two calls.
Was excited to find this doggie day care business located so close to our new home. Have been using Sam’s Green Paw in Studio City for years and LOVE them and never had a single complaint. So I was hoping I’d have a similar experience here. However, when I called to check things out they told me I had to pay $ 50 just for my two tiny and well behaved dogs to be «evaluated». We have used at least 5 doggie day care facilities over the last ten years in the greater LA area and have NEVER been charged an evaluation fee. All required an evaluation which makes total sense. But to charge for it seems like highway robbery to me. You evaluate the dogs as a cost of doing business. To charge for that is ridiculous. So I called them back to verify this info before bringing the dogs in.
The young woman on the phone kept selling me on why evaluations are necessary and she wasn’t listening to me when I was saying I understand that, but to charge for it is what I have issue with. Then she said she just works there and doesn’t make the rules. So I thanked her, suggested that she pass my feedback along to a boss and she sounded totally lost with that request. So I just hung up.
Not a good impression at all.
I guess we will just continue to use Sam’s and drive an extra 30 minutes each way.

Visited for training. They charge $ 150 per dog just to «evaluate» them for training. The evaluation consisted of a discussion (verbal conversation) with the owner. There was absolutely NO interaction at all with the dog. (I brought my dog. who the trainer did not interact with at all) In addition, the «training area» is small and I could see from the window that all the dogs were in crates. Doesn’t seem like a happy way to spend the day.
Also, they encourage training through discipline. They said the dogs all need a training collar.
When I asked about supervision during the day — if a dog is left for day care– they said they do a wonderful job. I mentioned a few reviews that said their dogs had been injured, and they said they can’t predict how dogs will behave with each other during free play time and accidents happen.

Everything about K9s Only is amazing! They have an awesome staff and their trainers worked miracles with Brooke and Bowser! Brooke is just not a dog person and did not acclimate well to Bowser joining our family. The trainers were able to work them together so they are actually buddies. Brooke has lower back disc issues and has benefitted from the swim therapy in conjunction with her adequan treatments. Recommend swim therapy for any fur baby that has arthritis or joint issues. Bowser loves to come in for daycare every week and is always super excited to see all of his K9s Only friends :)

I should start off with saying I am one of those Pet Parents who loves their fur child more than most people love their human children. So, for my Shlomo (1 year 6 month yellow lab) there is no expense too great. He is the light of my life.

Shlomo recently graduated from training with K9’s Only master trainer and dog whisper, Corey. Shlomo did the intensive training and came out a changed dog. Corey is simply the best. I’ve never met a dog trainer better than him and recommend him to everyone looking for quality dog training. If you think its expensive… remember it is worth every single penny.
Shlomo now goes to doggy day care at k9’s only a few days a week. It’s great. Drop him off in the AM, pick up a tired pooped out puppy at the end of the day. Their packages for doggy day care are GREAT as well.
Lastly, Shlomo goes to their salon now as well. Nothing like a trained, tired AND good smelling dog at the end of the day.

Can’t say enough about the experience I had at K9s Only especially with Corey. Without proper training, our dog was a complete riot so we decided to give K9s Only a try after a few referrals from friends. I’m definitely glad they recommended Corey because he really did wonders for our little guy after a few training sessions. Thank you Corey and the rest of the K9s Only crew for such a great experience!

What a wonderful experience! Our dog Kona is such a pleasure now having been trained by Corey at K9’s Only. Corey is a magician, a master at his craft! I’ve since made several referrals to a few friends for his services, not to mention the nice and clean facility.

We have brought our Scottie dog here for grooming and they did a great job! They even cleaned his leash too! Whenever we travel to downtown LA — we drop him off for a great grooming.

first of all i would like to thank Bobby for spending so much time with my husband and I. I have never owned a dog before, and to say that i had no clue what i was getting myself into when our beautiful Ruby came home with us when she was 8 weeks old is an understatement.
From the first time i met the staff at K9 only i was thoroughly impressed with there professionalism and kind nurturing techniques. I would like to say an extra special thank you to my dogs trainer Corey. You truly are amazing and have so much patients i can’t thank you enough.
So if you need help with your puppy or dog i definitely 100% recommend K9 only all the trainers and staff are amazing.

Don’t really seem to care about animals. My dog loved swimming — and that is why I gave an extra star — that experience was good. Otherwise, I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. My dog showed signs of mistreatment both in daycare as well as with the groomer.
I really wanted to love this place — the décor in the lobby isn’t bad, and the choices of toys etc look nice — but it’s lacking what the value you need for a pet sitter. And that’s saying it VERY nicely. Honestly, I wanted to love it so bad that I didn’t even consider the fact that it was toxic until the staff started acting extremely defensively. I’m sorry I subjected my best friend to this place. It won’t happen again.

I bring my Great Danes here for daycare and boarding. One of the things I like most is that when I pick them up, they are clean even after playing with other dogs for hours!
When I go out of town, it gives me great relief to know I can trust that they are being well cared. And when I have a full day, I know my young Dane needs to get her kicks out & she always comes home satisfied from a day of play

I came here for the first time today for a swim lesson. I always wanted my dog to learn how to swim (I love watching the purina dog competitions on TV) and after searching online, made an appointment here.
First off, Rachel is awesome. Never met her but the whole scheduling process was easy, she answered my numerous questions about the swim lessons with ease.
I actually almost missed the place (never saw the sign outside, but fortunately Google maps tells you exactly when you arrive haha). There’s no parking lot but there is lots of free parking on the street. The place inside is a friendly atmosphere– and most importantly, the people are warm and welcoming.
We had Nathir for our swim lesson, who was excellent. Lots of energy, friendly, young, patient — and we are pretty hands-​on dog parents (came in swim clothes and everything) but he welcomed us and had great tips and stories from his experience. Really appreciate it and next time, I promise we will back off and let him do his thing. :D
I’ve already purchased a couple swim passes — we will be back. Thanks guys!

My dog goes to day care here and she loves it! I have a pit-​bull In an apartment and anyone who has a large dog knows they have a ton of energy. Duchess comes here and has the best time running and playing with the other dogs. She always has fun which she loves and she comes back exhausted which I love. The staff is great because if you ask they will escort you back to the yards viewing area to watch your pups play. I love that my dog has somewhere safe that she can just be a dog! I recommend K9’s only to anyone who needs a safe, clean, and friendly place to send their dogs for some fun!

Here is a quick update and CONCLUSION to my prior review:
1) Kelly, the owner of K9s only offered to refund the cost of the puppy cut that was never supposed to happen ($ 20)
2) She then asked me to take down my original Unilocal review (something I might have considered doing, had they tried to remedy the situation).
3) I have not received my refund and I do not believe I ever will.
4) I have since gone to Pampered Pet Hotel in Woodland Hills, who not only fixed my dog’s horribly matted and ignored ears, but they also discovered he had an ear infection (something K9s only never noticed because they never cut his ears as requested).
5) In conclusion, I am so happy I switched to Pampered Pet Hotel in Woodland Hills, where the communication is very clear, the staff listens, and the prices are much more reasonable! And… I can see my dog at daycare and in grooming. Nothing is hidden like it is at K9s Only.

So lucky to have found K-9’s Only and the best obedience trainer on the planet (as far as I am concerned) Max. He was awesome with my newly rescued and very fearful 2 year old female Japanese Akita.
Started private lessons with Max four weeks ago to train myself and my new BFF as I had no idea what she knew or didn’t know from her past as is true with most rescued pets, all I knew was that I wanted to start off on the right foot with her from the start.
I was amazed to see such a huge improvement in such a short period of time.
My girl can now walk next to me on a loose leash without every little distraction freaking her out, heels, sits, lays down and will stay with no effort or coaxing. The basics under our belt now, will continue with the fine tuning.
This was one of the best decisions I have ever made and was worth every penny.

This review is for training, daycare, and a general wow! I have to say that K9s only is the best dog care business I have ever seen, if I tried to envision and dream up such a place it would not be as well executed as this establishment. They have taken best practices and put them on a scale that can handle multiple customers and wide varieties of dogs. From the minute you are exposed to them you realize that everything they do, they do well.
We contacted them as we had just rescued our puppy Betty from Westside German Shepherd rescue (our 2^nd rescue from them). Right away it became apparent that we needed outside help, she was a problem with our other dog and a real miscreant. I had heard of other Westside rescues getting help there.
I contacted Corey through the web, he responded immediately and upon going in for an evaluation we put Betty on a six week private lesson program, where I did the training with Corey’s help once a week. When we took Betty in she was out of control around other dogs, was ill mannered at home and a control problem on the leash.
Today marked the end of our six week program. Betty is still a puppy, but she sits, does down stay for twenty minutes, walks on a loose leash, and is a dog who you’d never know spent the first chapter of her life tethered to a chain in Palmdale.
Corey is intuitive, finds out what your goals are, and helps empower you to reach them. I’ve dealt with other dog trainers before and have never met anyone who so matter-​of-​factly achieves such great results.
When we wanted to socialize Betty, Corey introduced her in the day care area and helped us ensure she could be social without being a behavioral nightmare.
We have decided to continue on with our training at K9’s only as we have higher aspirations for Betty and wish her to reach them as quickly as she is able. We’ve had many dogs over many decades and as an owner don’t like to leave our dogs. You can trust K9’s not only to take care of your dog, but to return her to you better mannered and happier than you left her. To me that says it all.
Kudos to Corey and to the entire team at K9’s only who not only have a passion for what they do, they execute it at the highest level I’ve ever seen.

Our last experience here was horrible and as a result we will never be using this place ever again. Long story short, they cracked the vial of insulin we left for them. Instead of immediately calling us to ask what they should do, they decided it would be okay to pre-​fill the insulin needles before all the insulin leaked out of the vial. Anyone who knows anything about insulin knows that insulin is pretty much useless if not mixed immediately before being administered. Considering we had to up our Pug’s insulin dose each time he got boarded here and the fact that they thought it would be okay to pre-​fill needles, my guess is that they never properly administered the insulin ever.
Oh and when did they decide to tell us about all this? AT THE TIME OF PICK-​UP! REALLY!!! How hard would it have been to call us at the time of the accident!!! I had to speak to the owner just to get reimbursed $ 25 for the insulin THEY wasted.
This place may be okay for healthy dogs but I wouldn’t trust this place if your dog’s life depends on medication to be properly administered.

This review is only for boarding.
I have two dogs who are not great around other animals, so it’s quite nerve wracking when situations arise that require them to spend time in a commercial boarding situation.
I had a water heater burst in 2013 and had to find a place for the girls to go while my floors were being repaired. A friend recommended K9s Only and I booked my girls in a suite for the duration.
Everyone there was great about working with me to find just the right kennel (one where they wouldn’t be able to see other dogs. And they were (of course) very respectful about keeping my girls separated, without simply locking them away in jail for the length of their stay.
I’ve booked cuddle time for my pit mix (who seems to survive primarily on kisses and pets from humans). And they were great with managing my elder dogs medication schedule.
At check-​in they were very attentive and asked all the right questions, getting final details to make the dogs stay successful.
The most important part is that when it came time to pick up the girls, they were happy to see me… but my «nervous Nellie» elder dog was not panicked and desperate to see me. There is no higher praise to receive from my high-​strung, neurotic Malinois.
I used them again recently, and found that nothing had changed. This time we also used the grooming services, and the girls were clean, soft and sweet-​smelling at the time of pick-​up.
We’ve moved from LA now, and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to find somewhere even half as good in our new location. But if you’re in the Valley, run, don’t walk to K9s only.
They are your goto stop for high quality pet care that won’t break your bank.

She sits up — excited. She knows where we are going now. *pant pant pant*
When we stop at the Orange Line crossing she gets even more excited — I say «we’re going to K9s!» She can hardly contain herself and lets out a squeak — she LOVES going to daycare at K9s Only!
You know that saying «If my dog doesn’t like you, neither do I»? She’s an excellent judge of character, born into a world where people judge her just for being a pit bull, lost on the streets, full of fear, alone, dumped before the age of three months. She really loves everyone here — they are caring and patient with her insecurities, and know how to manage her. She’s come a long way because of their patience and direction.
If not for K9s Only, both Tarzana and West LA, I don’t know where we’d be. She has grown into a much more confident dog. When your dog goes to daycare there, they are not just dumped into a room and ignored. They are in a yard with professional dog experts who supervise and continue to train them and work on their social skills. I never worry about my baby when she’s there. She’s with the best.
We’ve done training through K9’s Only too, both private & group. Beatrice just finished her group lessons «K9 University» /​advanced — and it was just an incredible experience for the both of us. This staff doesn’t just train your dog — they train YOU — they give you the skills to work with your dog with confidence.
I have traveled all over and never worried about my girl when she is in their care for Boarding. She gets her own room, her own food, bed, toys and lots of play time and kisses. We’ve booked her for some outside walks along the Orange Line and even some pampering in the Spa. This staff loves your animals like they are their own. I feel like I am taking Beatrice to stay with family — and I mean that in all honesty. I couldn’t ask for anything more. We love K9s Only!
