Asada burritos are amazing! We drive across the valley just to get them. We just moved back from Colorado and couldn’t find really good mexican food. Now that we are back in Cali we hit our old stomping grounds. This place was in the same building 15 years ago. Still really good food! Love it!

Tried this place out the other day. The one thing that I will always remember about this place is the stinkeye I got from the cashier the second I walked in. Burrito was okay, although one of the other Unilocalers’ comment about it tasting like it was cooked in week-old oil sounded like an apt description for my chicken burrito. Even with the old oil, it still was pretty good, meaning that their other ingredients must be up to snuff. Still, the comment below mine calling the chicken burrito«the best in the city» is definitely not what I experienced. The cook appeared upbeat and was working very quickly. But yeah, it’s hard to get over the really angry vibe that the 50-year-old female cashier is giving off. I don’t think I’ll be returning here any time soon.

I registered on Unilocal just to review this restaurant. I had chicken and asada Tacos. My wife had a burrito. All of the food was under seasoned or not seasoned at all… It didn’t taste like anything. The burrito hardly seemed filled and there were no condiments out that you’ll find in many Mexican restaurants like limes, chilli sauce, etc. The food made both of our stomachs upset. On top of it all the prices were very high for the quality of food. Find another place to eat, you will regret eating here.

The service was horrible, the cashier could not smile so grumpy, and not only that; the chef was talking shit in Spanish about me when I’ve heard it from that low class chef very well, talking shit about me and laughing. I smiled back to him in the sense by thinking myself wait paisa for my reviews on Unilocal the food was extremely salty, awful place for my first experience. I will not recommend this place at all, I have noticed the place had only three customers. I wonder why? I just recently open a business close to the area but screw these people are horrible in service and food. My suggestion please don’t go there the food seems to be cooked with old oil from weeks ago. So disgusting.

Absolutely horrible. They try to way overcharge you until you point it out, and the guy at the register blamed the cooks, who were never at the register. The taco shells were completely soaked through in the 5 minutes it took to get home, so when you pick up the taco, it completely falls apart. The salsa was watery and gross. The carne was chewy and flavourless. There is no reason at all to ever eat here.

As I was waiting for my breakfast burrito this morning(because they make everything fresh) I started counting up the years and realized… I have been enjoying their food for 25 years. I mean, seriously, how many places can you say that of? The chicken burrito, in my opinion, is perhaps the best one in the city. I don’t ask for anything special, just the chicken burrito that’s made with perfectly spiced chicken stewed with tomatoes and onions, and the kind of pinto beans that let you know they really care. I always say, the care a restaurant takes with its beans is a perfect indicator of the care they take with their food. And the beans here are tasty, they are the essence of a well cooked pinto bean, yet simple, no more or less than what they should be. And that is all that’s in the chicken burrito, but the two together, oh, man! They are, plain clothes, sensible shoes, fabulous! And the staff — the patriarch of the family always has a kind word, stops to say hello, and remembers just how long it’s been. I don’t come by every week, or even every month. But he always remembers me with a smile. As long as they are open, I will return for my chicken burrito and hello. This is one of the places that is the backbone of LA. Thanks Burritos El Chavo!

Worst place ever the food is decent but the customer service is horrible I order a burrito and 2 tacos Then I pay 13 so dollars Then they serve 6 people after me like I’m not there and I wait 20min. And nothing until the cook asks me «are you going to order something?» And I told him I did and he makes my order in less than a minute. Honestly they didn’t even apologize at least the cook was nice but I wish that I didn’t leave a tip in the beginning. Absolute worst place ever. And on top of that they get the entire order wrong tbh I think the lady just knows nothing. Do not recommend it.

Wondering why this place is last couple weeks, This used to be a good spot but now the customer service is so poor it’s sad. And a price increase it’s $ 7.09 for a burrito no guac no extras with bad service I wouldn’t pay 1 dollar. Good luck to the owners because I see now why people give you 1 star, because they can’t give you zero.

OK food, but it’s ridiculously too pricy for the food. 2 tacos, rice, beans and a small drink $ 13.00. I’ve been to plenty of Mexican places and I just couldn’t believe how expensive it was. After paying, the service was poor. Unfriendly and seemed unpleased to work and cook for customers. I couldn’t wait to leave as I finished my food, the cashier was talking to his friend outside in a truck, which was blocking my car, he turns to see and continues his conversation as if that was his job. I asked for him to move and it took more than 3 min for him to move. Not going back.

I would give it zero, 0, stars if that was an option. Unfriendly service, over priced, the, I assume regulars, are nosey and stare at you as if from another planet I mean seriously I’m white with freckles big deal, furthermore… the food preparation was done all by bare hands, and, forgive me, but a $ 1.00 for refills on soda I get 50 cents but I think. … Maybe I shouldn’t say. I love authentic Mexican food my favorite in fact yet I will never come here again and will certainly will advise all my friends to avoid this place as well.

The food is ok and enjoyed it, but a bit pricy. However, what led me to give it one start was due to this incident. I decided to buy a jamaica to go. I know some places charge a little more for not having ice in the drink. I asked the lady politely that, she could charge me extra, if necessary. The lady growled at me with a response, «What!» in a mean tone. I proceeded to tell her about how some restaurant do that and then paid. Her response, «Uh huh, thank you.» in a very rude manner. Now I can understand why this place isn’t busy on Sunday and I don’t see very many people stopping by. If you want more customers to stop by your place, work on your customer skills. If you go down Melody’s, that place is packed and the service and food is better. I am not returning for sure.

Been eating at this place for quite a while. Decided to change my review. The younger gentleman and the guy who usually prepares the food are cool, however the older gentleman and the two ladies who run the restaurant from time to time have really bad attitudes. It’s as if they’ve been in this business too long and have grown to hate it or something. Their food is great but if you’re looking for a better customer service experience, Melody’s and Las Fuentes is just down the road.

Regarding Burritos El Chavo, Tarzana: AVOID! I was in Encino, turned off Ventura Blvd onto Reseda Blvd, saw this place, wanted a quick bite. I went in to order a combo and was just stared at by 3 unfriendly middle aged ladies who acted like I was bothering them. Then the cashier lady took my order and started prepping my food with no gloves. When she dug in to the jack cheese bin with her long, acrylic nails with no hand washing I asked nicely if she could please put on some gloves. That sent the three witches into a frenzy telling me I didn’t have to eat there. That was their reply. As if they were daring me to eat the dirt under their nails or go elsewhere. After being told I was S.O.L. and shown the door by the three cackling bats, I shook my head at their behavior and left. They couldn’t have cared less. As I was starting my car, the long-nailed lady came OUTSIDE looking for me when she went into a name calling frenzy and went back inside. I got out of my car and shot a photo of their letter grade in the window and went back to my car. The other woman inside ran out and started yelling at me to «go on a diet»(ha ha!) and the cashier shouted she was going to «call the police.» Another customer was about to walk in when I told her about my experience. Then the 3 gals all started taunting me in unison in front of her. I’d have gotten better service from Bette Davis in «What Ever Happened to Baby Jane.» Go there only for a laugh. Remember to suggest they wear gloves and watch the fun unfold! Their special of the day is the«Dirty Sanchez Surprise.»

This lady is mean and aggresive she rushes your order. She threw my hot sauce in the bag very vigorously. This burrito better be good.

Came here on a whim last night with the bf. I got two carnitas soft shell tacos and bf got a hard shell beef and hard shell chicken taco along with chips and guacamole. The chips and salsa were good yet the guacamole was unmemorable and didn’t have much if any flavor. The food wasn’t hot yet it did taste good. I’d go back and eat there again though it’s not a place I’d go out of my way for.

While exploring the area, I decided to be adventurous and try a new spot. This isn’t at all the adventure I expected. The food was okay and average, I wouldn’t categorize this spot as Mexican food. When I entered the restaurant, the space is rather small. There was two other customers inside waiting. The place is ran by a two people crew; cashier and cook. Ordered the carne asada burrito with rice and bean combination. Flavor was Americanized really but it’s not something I expect but only with Taco Bell. Horchata was sweet as always but can’t go wrong since it’s premade. Would I hit this spot again, maybe if it was not for the overpriced burrito, came about 12 bucks. Something I would only spend at Chipotle… jk.
