I don’t get why this place gets a bad rap with some people. It sounds like people are mostly complaining about the service. But ours was just fine. The pizza was great(and unique). The portions were awesome. The outdoor seating was perfect. And the beers were flowing. What more could you ask for in a pizza place?

So disappointing, we chose to eat here after reading all kinds of Unilocal reviews on local restaurants and seeing photos, and we’re very excited to try such a unique place out. Really regretting that decision. First of all, we were there for lunch on a Monday afternoon, literally 3 other tables were there and one of those were just paying the bill. We waited about 15 minutes before our waitress even came by. She took our order, and disappeared somewhere for a long while. We didn’t get our drinks until AFTER the pizza was brought to the table, which was done so by a cook not even the waitress. Finally, she brings our drinks and then disappears again. Seriously the cook was more attentive to us than our waitress. We had to ask him for our check because the mysteriously vanishing waitress had yet again pulled a vanishing act. The cook brought our check but… no pen. I finally had to walk up to the counter to pay, I never have had so much trouble trying to pay a bill, ever. So, if you have a young, super skinny waitress with a mole over the left side of her lip and long hair, just do yourselves a favor and don’t. I would hate to experience the service during a peak time when there are actually guests in the restaurant. As for the pizza. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, our order was totally wrong, but, for fear of starving we just ate what was brought to us. It was average. I would avoid this place unless you enjoy extremely bad service and average pizza for a good chunk of money. We ordered a small pizza and two sodas and it was almost $ 40. This place really needs to take a look at who they have working here. They are going to run this place in the ground.

I was excited to try the pizza here after reading all the good reviews. I ordered the Veggie pizza to-go, and while I was waiting I watched one of the waitress behind the counter picked up a pitcher of water and started drinking from it. After sharing a laugh she then took the same water out into the restaurant and filled glasses. Ugh!!! Got my order and took it home only to discover that it wasn’t what I ordered and paid for. Not going to return it, because who knows what they do when someone sends something back. Speaking of back, this place is forever off my list after today.

The pizza I ordered was very bland, and the cannolis were very disappointing and old.

The pizza was excellent but the attitude of our waitress, the one from Palatine(near Chicago, IL) was atrocious. She kept calling us «You Guys». My friend pointed out that I am not a guy, so she went out of her way to be rude. Next time she passed by our table she called us «You Girls.» My friend is male. Then she continued to call us «You Guys». I mentioned it on the comments card, saying that when the waitresses keep calling clients«You Guys», it just reduces the restaurant to the level of a greasy spoon. So like a fish wife, she came screaming out into the parking lot yelling, «Next time why don’t you go to a classier place». We took her advice and for the rest of our visit we went to Lambert’s 3 times, Love Apple, Doc Martin’s, Martyrs twice, Orlando’s, the Brewery, Rhonda’s up at Ski Valley and dined in at our hotel, El Monte Sagrado. Instead of wasting money at Outback. I wonder if the owner knows she’s telling people not to dine there…

Finally got a chance to sample this place on our 3rd visit to Taos. Small, intimate, no frills décor, but with a great pizza aroma wafting about. It was a Friday night, so they were busy, but the wait was manageable. We really loved the pizza. A good thick crust, with lots of toppings. We each ordered a single slice, which was filling for both of us. Looking forward to returning on our next trip.

Pizza was awesome & the portions were more than sufficient for a big appetite. The décor is rustic to the extreme and a little primitive, but the prices are reasonable & the food is delicious. If your hungry for pizza this is the place.

Usually Outback is my favorite spot for pizza in Taos, however tonight we ordered our dinner to go. What a mistake that was. We got the Taos Alfredo which is usually amazing, today it tasted like wet bland noodles with no Alfredo and a little bit of chili. Then we got a slice of the shredder(our personal favorite) and there was no house pesto dressing to go with the pizza. I’ve been critical of this place before for the poor service and once again, very poor service. I am in tears! Miriam is eating her slice of pizza and we found a piece of paper baked into the pizza…

Awesome! Pure awesomeness! I was initially very concerned about eating here as it is tucked away«out back» behind a house and off the Main Street. But once inside, great vibe, varied menu with a ton of unique combinations or make your own pizza creation. Not into pizza — try one of their many pastas. Service was kind, quick, attentive and they don’t mind giving suggestions. My husband said the beer selection was ok and I thought the wine selection was reasonable. They have a huge dessert menu too! Our pizza was amazing and they didn’t mind making substitutions. We had The Shredder and switched mushrooms for artichokes. A 12″ was more than enough for two of us. Eclectic charm inside. Warm. Inviting. Fun. Check it out!

Hubby got a slice of the meat lover’s, and I got the white. Neither of us were impressed. The slices are huge but also obscenely thick leaving the entire slice doughy. Take-out salad was covered in dressing, so it ended up being soggy before we got home to enjoy it. We regretted not picking up grocery store pizza instead.

Great pizza and salads! Came back into Taos after driving the Enchanted Circle. Was craving Pizza and boy I found the perfect spot! Had a delicious Greek Pizza and salad plus washed it down with a glass of Red Wine… Perfect and hit the spot! Try it, you’ll love it!

First off the pizza is great for half of my friends, the other half leave buckled over with stomach pains-no joke, we’ve tried to eat the pizza here many times. There must be some ingredient that other pizza places don’t use. We are not celiac. Others that don’t have this painful experience rave about the pizza! The service is non existent. Perhaps the service is less than bad being as the staff(generally speaking) tends to be stoned high school drop out with poor hygiene that don’t really know how to help and don’t want to help. Expect to wait one hour for pizza and longer for service.

Great little hidden away pizza place. Lots of choices and great tastes! Coming from Chicago and having experience working at mom and pop pizza places, this was a delicious stop and wish we could come here more often for pizza. Waiter was super polite and kept our drinks cold and made sure we had a great experience. Would reccomended!

This place already has 120 reviews, so I’ll keep this short. Usually I’m a thin crust pizza eater, but there is something so comforting about Pizza Out Back’s puffy, bready crust sprinkled with sesame seeds. Even if you don’t like pizza, come for DESSERTS. I highly recommend the«Taos Yum»(vanilla ice cream topped with crumbled chocolate walnut cookie served in a sundae dish), and«Black Magic» chocolate cake, which is super dense and not dry at all. They also have a root beer float with Not Your Father’s root beer, 6% alcohol. Service varies– sometimes great, sometimes barely tolerable– and the food is usually on the slower side to arrive, so don’t order if you’re in a rush. I think I waited 20 min. for a slice of cheese pizza once. Another bonus: they sell by the slice! Slices are huge, one is more than enough for me.

Best handcrafted pizza. Their crusts are like a work of art AND there’s sauce inside it, too. Healthy, creative options. And plenty of tasty options for a vegetarian, too. This ain’t yo daddy’s pizza. It’s chef-style pizza. I hear they also have good beer options.

This place is awesome! We sat outside under the twinkle lights in a brightly colored picnic table. My group ordered beers, house salad and pepperoni and green chile pizza. The house salad was the best salad I’ve ever had. It had tons of fresh veggies, piled up high, sprouts and an AMAZING Parmesan salad dressing. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The dough was delicious and I would love to stop by again!

Totally expensive! But reeeeeally good pizza! As a former New Yorker, I gotta say I don’t miss New York pizza at all cause I know Pizza Outback’s got my back! Sometimes they get really busy and the service can be slow at times but if you got the time and you want to chill, it’s work the wait. Otherwise, it’s probably better to call ahead and order for pickup. HERE’S A SECRET: Mon-Fri they have HAPPYHOUR where you can get a pizza and beer for just $ 5! You have to go between 4pm and 6pm. Also, they provide crayons and paper at every table for guests to indulge in their inner child. Bön apetit!

Terrible experience. It took us 75 minutes after we ordered for the meal to when the last dish arrived. Unfortunately, one pizza arrived 20 minutes before the other, and the second pizza was burned beyond edibility. The waiter showed no sign that he noticed anything amiss in the service; the manager was also unable to apologize or give us any reason for the terrible service. She had to be asked twice to comp us the burned pizza. We spoke with two tables of people who had been seated before us; their experiences were the same as ours. As we were waiting for our second pizza to arrive, we described our problems with a newly-seated party next to us. We ran into them the next day, and they said that their experience mirrored ours. The manager told them that a cook had quit mid-shift. This was no excuse for the lack of empathy we experienced, however. The manager should have closed the shop for sit-down customers and simply provided take-out service, rather than filling the restaurant with customers who are ensured of a terrible dining experience.
