History

Established in 1974.

Formerly Spivey’s Café built in 1957, Michael’s Kitchen has been a family owned Taos landmark for the past 37 years and is still cooking!

About 3 years after we bought Spivey’s we changed the name to Michael’s Kitchen and bought the La Fiesta Bakery from Ira Green. We usually have between 72 – 80 people working and still have many of the employees that came with the business when we bought it. Many of their children have worked, or currently work, here.

My wife Pat and I still work, and all of our children have spent varying periods of time in their lives helping us run the restaurant. Our daughter Gina and her husband Derek have decided to make the restaurant their livelihood.

Taos and the restaurant have provided me with an interesting and sometimes frantic life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. Thank you to the thousands of you who have made us a success and to our Staff and Friends who have always been there over all the years.
