Indian Hills Inn

I found Indian Hills Inn on
for $ 85. It sounded good and was close to the Taos plaza. When I got there I was disappointed to find a dirty office, lobby and reception area. I made the mistake of signing for billing to my credit card before checking out my room. The room was terrible. It smelt like cigarette smoke. When I tried to open the very dirty window with torn curtains which were falling down, I found no screen. The carpet and tile floors were filthy. The sink and rug were not clean. There was a small old 20 inch TV which I did not turn on. The two upholstered chairs in the room were dirty and stained to the point that I would not sit on. The pool was dirty, green, and slimy looking. The staircase had not been swept in months and had bird droppings. The entire place was run down, not maintained, and definitely did not show pride of ownership. I immediately called the front desk and explained there was no way I could stay in such a dirty place. . I was finally given a refund (I am checking with my visa to make sure). I came to Sagebrush Inn which I highly recommend.

This place is in a great location for walking around Taos. However, I will not stay here again.
Our room was not ready at check in time. An hour later we were given a room that was only half cleaned. It had not been vacuumed, and there were dirty towels and a dirty cleaning cloth on the table. There was a puddle on the bathroom floor which turned into an active leak when I flushed the toilet. This non-​smoking room smelled like stale cigarettes. I complained and was given a different room that was only slightly cleaner, and still smelled like cigarettes. We could not close the curtains because the mechanism was broken and most of the hooks missing. Bedding was questionable. I wore my socks the entire time we were there because I didn’t want my bare feet on the none too clean carpet. There are sketchy long term residents living here. The entire place seems to be falling apart. It is in a sad state of neglect and disrepair. The parking lot is pot-​holed and weedy. Breakfast was inedible. I did not feel comfortable or safe. I do NOT recommend that you stay here.

The room smelled like cigarettes even when they said it was a non-​smoking room. We had to request towels and toilet paper because the room was not ready for us at all. What they call continental breakfast is a lousy donut, watered coffee, and soggy toast. Do yourself a favor and skip this place altogether.

The staff is wonderful at this place. We just moved to Taos and were staying here until we found a home. Diane, Tom and the staff helped us find great jobs and told us a lot of helpful information about Taos. They were so accommodating and so genuine and helpful. At every hour of the night they were available and willing to help us with whatever we needed.
The rooms were nice and affordable. I would recommend friends, family, and travelers.

It’s an okay hotel. I didn’t expect really high end based on other reviews that I read before, and that’s pretty much what I got. It’s better than a Motel 6 experience, but it’s not a resort-​style room. We had some issues checking in but they were accommodating and got the room ready while we grabbed dinner.
The bed was comfortable and room itself was clean. The bathroom wasn’t great, though, the tub had some rust stains that made it look unclean, really could use a replacement. (No issue with water pressure or temperature, however). The heater in the room worked, I actually had to keep turning it down because it was cranking (it was below freezing outside in December). Walls are a bit thin, could hear noises beside and above us, but nothing major.
My other complaint on the room was the TV was older, not widescreen, but the cable was designed for widescreen. As a result, you could really notice lots of things cut off on the picture, which was kind of annoying.
Morning complimentary breakfast is typical for low-​cost hotels that offer it, bagels and coffee, hard-​boiled eggs and some mornings there was yogurt before it ran out.
I thought originally WiFi was slow in the hotel but after being in Taos a couple of days, I think I decided that the entire town of Taos has slow Internet. It’s like the whole city is being served by a single T1 line or something, so I’m not going to fault the hotel for that.
Location is nice, easy to just walk up to Kit Carson to explore all the tourist shops and save money on parking since you’re only a couple of blocks away.

Had a great stay here, the room was clean and we liked the décor and size. Lovely reception area with fireplace, also a small fireplace in the room! Breakfast was basic but an added bonus for the great price. They went out of their way to move us to a very quiet room because an elderly man had his TV so loud below us. Thank you!!!

We will not stay here again.
There were ants in the room, the air conditioner sounded like an alarm clock and zero water pressure in the shower. We where very nervous about the parking, dirt lot with no way of laying eyes on the car unless you went outside and around the building.

The location of this place is great for walking to the plaza. The room was pretty standard and was clean except for the toilet, which had an impressive skid mark in it. The continental breakfast was also pretty standard.
Overall, I would stay here again. The location was great and it was a clean (mostly) and cozy place.

They offer a great stay and ski program. It can be expensive to stay in Taos so the deal is great. Look for it on FB.

In a word… «eew». After my shower, I felt like I needed another shower. Eew. The sheets on the bed were a brown southwest pattern… How can I tell if they were clean? Eew. I didn’t want to take my shoes off to walk on the carpet. Eew. We didn’t feel like the parking lot (dirty) was a secure place to leave the car, the «courtyard» in the center was a bunch of ever grown weeds… The entire place felt neglected and dirty. The upside… It was in the middle of town, we could walk just about everywhere… I would have rather slept in the car.

We were looking for a hotel in town, so we didn’t have to drive from the outskirts in to eat/​shop/​walk (traffic in Taos is BAD!). WAY cheaper than the other 2 or 3 in town, I think it was 50 – 60 for two beds in late May 2012. Beds were SUPER soft, and clean. Room was mildly funky, but in a great way, and it certainly felt cleaner than a Super 8 often does!
Good breakfast, helpful staff, quiet room, walking distance to everything! If I ever find myself in Taos again, I’ll definitely be back to this place!

Very nice, clean and most friendly staffed place. So heres the goods:
Room was good size, beds comfortable, very clean, free Wi-​Fi, Cable TV, nice parking and free breakfast. and just 2 blocks from main plaza downtown, great value!
My thanks to both Jeannie and Daniel at the front desk. They were helpful and again, very nice and friendly. The cleaning staff were very nice in the hallways too.
I already told my friends about about this little jewel and certainly will come back again soon, thank you!

This isn’t the worse place in the world to stay in but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. The web site would lead one to believe that it is a real mom and pop operation with fastidious management. Instead, I believe you will find that the management is asleep at the wheel. At one time this was probably a really nice hotel but it has started to show some wear. My stay was October of 2009 and at that time the bath tub still did not look very clean. There were two chairs in the room that did not match and one of them had a 12″ tear in the fabric. The light switches on the fixtures over the bed were so hard to turn that I felt like I needed a pair of pliers. Normally even the cheapest of motels will provide a folding stand for your suitcase but this one didn’t seem to want to spend the ten bucks required to provide one. No hair dryer was provided either. The bathroom was very small and thus awkward to use. The breakfast though bare minimum was acceptable. The mattress was terrible. It should have been replaced years ago. The parking lot is very creepy. If you want to see a hotel that has none of these problems, when you are in Albuquerque, stay at the Fairfield by Marriott on Menual Rd. It was the same price ($ 89) and had all the things that Indian Hills Inn was missing.

A discount coupon that my mom found for this hotel was what prompted us to stay here overnight while in Taos. The hotel was fairly inexpensive even without a coupon, but I think we paid $ 59 per night (plus the typical taxes/​fees).
The rooms were just okay to me; good enough for the budget conscious, but not for the discriminating traveller. Though my room seemed fine, mom found a dirty (used) towel behind her bathroom door and said her bathtub didn’t look very clean. Made us wonder how well the rooms are usually cleaned. Mom mentioned the dirty towel to a staff person the next morning and they said they have a hard time finding workers who do a good job at cleaning.
Outside our rooms was an open area with a few trees, grass and picnic tables where we were able to eat the picnic style lunches we brought. Next to that area was a swimming pool that looked fairly clean, though we opted not to swim that day.
There was a room off the lobby area where complimentary breakfast items were offered. The standard orange juice, bagels, fruit, instant oatmeal, and coffee were available.
The hotel was a brief walk down from the main plaza area, though part of the walk was not paved or had no sidewalks.
The staff was extremely friendly and courteous and were helpful in giving us directions to a local stores we asked about and to our next destination outside of Taos.
Overall, cleanliness was not their strong factor. The price (with a coupon), staff friendliness, and hotel location are what helped make this hotel just an okay option.
