Cid’s Food Market

Overall, Cid’s is very similar to a Whole Foods /​Trader Joe’s blend. But I’d not put the meat counter/​section anything above Kroger or Albertsons — if even on par. It’s also somewhat laughable to try to find a lot of «with gluten» items. *facepalm* That aside, the selection is sufficient and with more of the unique items than other shops.

We stopped at Cid’s several times while in Taos, when recognizing we’d left the yogurt at home, to needing some ingredients for a gingerbread turkey (We needed some turkey for Thanksgiving, and weren’t about to cook one in the tiny stove in our Airbnb), to picking up some snack bars pre-​hike. Each and every time, we found something to like about Cid’s.
The hot bar is the thing of wonders and supplied a marvelous breakfast of sausage and egg bake one morning when we got sick of yogurt and granola.
The end caps of aisles featured many local products from toffee to honey to snack bars, etc. We left with some gifts to bring home that won’t sit on the shelf unused.
The selection of baked goods was amazing, and may have been visited more than once due to the «it’s vacation» mentality.
As other reviewers have mentioned, Cid’s is reminiscent of Whole Foods, but is a bit more charming because of its independent status and focus on local goods.

Seven months on the road around the US, self catering breakfast lunch and dinner and this is one of the best grocery stores we have found. Great baked goods, lots of locally roasted coffee beans, plenty of New Mexican products plus health and vitamin supplies. Excellent.

I enjoyed shopping here. It’s reminiscent of the original Whole Foods or a Sprouts store, natural & organic groceries in a small store. One recommendation I have is to try the Taos Roasters Nicaragua coffee. I had to bring a bag back with me when we left, delish!

When we travel not only do we make a point to dine in the local non chain restaurants, we also like to shop at the local supermarkets. Cid’s is great!
Think of a cross between a Wholefoods and a Trader Joe’s and you’ve got Cid’s. The prices are great and the selection is as well.
Stop in and enjoy what they have to offer, you’ll be supporting local and getting great stuff!

We love finding whole food style markets everywhere we visit. Cids did not disappoint and we stopped twice in two days to pick up groceries and to buy their hot burritos and tamales.

Cid’s is the place to go… Beautiful fresh produce and lots of local selection. I think it may be the only option for organic fresh protein.
You will pay more here for sure, but worth it.

Great place to grab a dinner if you don’t want to do a restaurant. We were staying in an Earthship nearby (check out Earthships), so this was a great place to grab dinner and a breakfast that we could prepare ourselves.

Cid’s has a great butcher counter with a nice selection of meats, poultry, and seafood. There’s lots of good food all over the place, from pre-​made food, to frozen food, to canned and boxed food, desserts, cheese, the list goes on. And it’s all organic. Picture Whole Foods on a smaller scale. Lots of local products, great coffee, great salad bar, great just about everything, but pricey. I go there for «treats» personally. Desserts or some meat selection that only Cid’s has in Taos, and the coffee is only $ 1.50 for a 16oz and to me it’s some of the best in town. Oh, and they have San Marzano tomatoes.

Got there ten minutes before closing and we were greeted with «hurry up!» From a cashier. They had already put all the produce away and turned off the lights /​closed the coolers. Might as well have been closed. My thought is that unless you are closed, you’re open, right? Wouldn’t go back after being treated like that.

Shopping Cid’s was such a fun (and funny) experience for us. My wife and I had driven up from Bryan, Texas and passed Cid’s Food Market on the way to our condo and thought «Great! A large grocery store that’s close by for stocking our kitchenette.» Well, don’t walk into this store expecting to quickly grab some Miracle Whip, Del Dixie pickles or Pringles. They don’t have any of those or much of any «normal» brands of anything. However, we did have a great time finding the healthy alternatives to everything we wanted and it was fun doing so. If you need organic this or gluten free that, this is definitely the place to be. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The «people watching» was almost as fun as the shopping. Not your typical «bacon cheeseburger» crowd in there. Overall, a great experience and I only have a couple of suggestions. First, add a descriptor to the store name. Cid’s Organic Food Store? Cid’s Whole Food Store? Second, do something about the awful smell. It smelled of rotting meat. Couldn’t figure that one out as the store appeared very clean and the staff seemed busy stocking and cleaning and such. We won’t be going back but that’s only because it’s not our cup of tea. It’s perfect for those that desire the organic, whole foods experience.

I was on a mission and one mission only… to purchase local New Mexican chiles so I could bring them home with me to Connecticut.
Low and behold, at the end of aisle three was an assortment of local chile spices; in both red and green chiles and in powdered and flake form. Hallelujah!
What would have easily costs me over $ 28 at the in-​town touristy gift stores costs me only $ 10 at Cid’s Food Market.
Mission accomplished.

It’s great. Got whatever I need, including altitude adjustment helpers in all kinds of forms.
As for the hippie/​hippy workers or customers — who cares?! I come for the food, not the socialization. The billboard is great to get an idea of what’s going on in town, health-​wise.
(And by the way, I live on the east coast — where we have plenty of large, supermarket-​sized health food stores, as well.)

Fabulous organic grocery perfect for getting supplies for our rental for the weekend. As two health conscious families traveling this place was a god send. All the staples were there as well as some good finds– green chile to take home to Colorado and yummy toffee.

This is exactly opposite of why the East Coast sucks.
Here is a huge, well stocked, environmentally concious, individual minded independently owned health food store. Not a chain pretending to be «green» for profits… Whole Foods I’m narrow-​eyed looking in your general direction.
Young helpful staff. Well stocked. Priced reasonably.
Did I mention BIG? This isn’t a hole-​in-​the-​wall low rent district location, with 500 items crammed into 12 square feet. Cids is a normal sized grocery store… but earthy and vegan friendly.
Take note East Coast, I’m leaving you for Cid’s.

That’s right. A 5-​star grocery store.
I shopped at Whole Foods and Central Market for years when I lived in Dallas — but Cid’s is a gem that outshines them both.
Besides all the local and NM specialty foods (they have chicos on the shelf!!!) this is just the best selection of organic produce this side of Southern Oregon. I mean — I could live on sauté’d veggies if I lived here.
We tried 3 varieties of the their fresh sausages while we were in our little studio rental — and all were great. Sausages, veggies, fruit — and tortillas. How can you beat that?
Actually, we carried 2 coolers full of groceries home to Texas — there are no markets like this anywhere in the panhandle…

Wow, is this place channeling Whole Foods or what? Being from Austin, where Whole Foods originated, I couldn’t get over the similarities in fonts used, layout or food carried. Pretty funny.
All that to say, it’s not a bad idea to mimic Whole Foods — they’re doing something right. We did have a difficult time finding enough chicken for our visit, but I guess that’s to be expected at the end of a business day. The selection is definitely not diverse, i.e. we couldn’t find apple cider, but there is a lot of thought going into what IS put on the shelves. This store furthers the generally ‘hippy-​ness’ vibe that Taos has, but that’s quite alright with me.

Thank you Cid’s for having frozen green chili I can put in a cooler and road trip home with me.
Thank you for having Nanak’s Lip Smoothee, a glorious Taos made chap-​stick I have been addicted to since 1998.
Thank you for having «Day of the Dead» pot holders, one of which I just could not resist — especially after having noticed it was $ 2 cheaper than it was on the square. Which is funny, because the prices at Cid’s are on the high side of stoned.
P. S. Thank you for having a deal on Coconut Water during my shopping trip tonight.

Let me start my saying that I’m not a hippy. I don’t have ample body hair and that family brings me to the town Taos once or twice a year. With that said the Hippies and customers with ample body hair are pretty much the customer base here which adds to the ambiance of this store.

I shopped here twice the weekend i was in town. The prices were a bit steep, even for taos, but the quality of the products seemed to be worth The price. The meat was freshly cut but seemed to be limited in there verities. Local free range Eggs were 3.29 for a dozen. The produce is all organic and locally grown.
Over all this is a great little co-​op. Clean neat and well staffed.

This place has every single thing I’m looking for at a much better price than Henry’s or Whole Foods.
It’s clean, it’s organized, the people are wonderful, sweet, helpful and friendly. I love this place. I only wish my small community of University Heights in San Diego had a place like this. Although, it would ruined by the city folk, no doubt.
They open at 8am, they close at 8pm. I like that.
Who cares that they are not opened on Sundays? You’re on Taos time. If you can’t deal with that, go to Vegas. Plus why would you go to the market when you’ve got the best damned farmer’s market EVER!
