We invited two couples who had never been to Vizcaya and, in fact, we had not dined there in over a year. First, there have been some major renovations since our last visit. The dining area is much more open and well lit. We sampled a dozen or so tapas plates and all were excellent. In particular the scallops were cooked to perfection, easily sliced with the side of your fork. We also enjoyed the octopus dish, as did our guests. The wine list is expansive, but reasonable options can be found and even with two bottles of wine and 4 – 5 beers our check was less than $ 70 a couple which is quite reasonable especially considering the variety of flavor profiles we tried. I will certainly be back, but wish I lived a bit closer. Forty plus minutes is a long drive, but this time it was worth it.

Went for dinner last night with my husband. Made for the perfect date night !! As soon as we walked into the vizcaya we were transported to a classy Miami hotspot ! Beautiful décor, bullfighter pictures on the walls, elegant chandeliers, and the music was a classical guitarist playing from Santana to sting of course putting in his own Latin vibe on it. Amazing ! The food was perfect along with the service. Great night !! Will definitely return. Oh and don’t forget the yummy desserts !! We had the crème brûlée and flan Ana Valenti

We tried this place last night on a Groupon deal and it was OK. The good: The ambiance and décor was amazing. Very nice inside. I liked the bread the offer with the dipping sauce. It was different. The lamb shank was very tender. The shrimp in my Paella was very large. The staff was polite. Plenty of parking. The bad: They only left us with 2 place settings when we had 4 people. The bread and dipping sauce was brought out two mins before our food arrived. I got the seafood Paella. It wasnt that great. Especially for $ 27. For $ 27, I would have expected a very flavorful taste explosion meal. The scallops were the little tiny ones that are cheaper. The rice tasted salty in some places and the flavor was just so disappointing. It wasnt that it was bad, just for the price, I expected more. I had Paella in San Diego once and I remember it as a very very very tasty and this just wasnt even comparable. We also got the Lamb Shank. Although it was cooked perfectly and was tender, again the taste just wasnt there. Tasted like a plain brown gravy. Personally, I wont be back. This place is way too pricey. For the price they charge, I can go to a higher end restaurant and eat something that merits the price.

We were impressed with food and service. Very clean restaurant with bar and entertainment after 6PM. Seated in a booth as requested after she tried to sit us at a table. We had cheese tray and sangria and mojitos, which were all great to start and both of our meals were delicious as well as the Café Con Leche we ended the meal with. We went because we received a Living Social gift but I would go back for a special occasion as the prices are a little higher than normal. Easy parking as well, just had trouble finding the entrance.

Amazing food and service. We got The cheese plate and 5 tapas for 3 very hungry people and we were very happy. The only downside was they were out of the orange Crème Brûlée by 8:40pm. The Scallops with Chorizo was amazing!!!

I am a Tampa transplant from NY and my coworker recommended this restaurant because my husband is Spanish… and because I love tapas. I went here with a friend visiting from NY and this place did not disappoint. We shared several tapas dishes and the red sangria and and they did not disappoint. I have been to Spain about 10 times(maybe more as I lost count) and these dishes really made me feel like I was back in Spain. I will be back to try more tapas from the menu!

Excellent as always. Hot and cold tapas are delicious, and to pair that with great drinks and fast service leads to a wonderful date night.

We started with a Champagne cocktail, they made special for us. Bacon wrapped dates to die for. Mushroom soup expertly seasoned. A delightful goat cheese salad. Very well prepared seafood dishes. Flan and cappuccino yummy! 35th wedding anniversary we shall return, great job to everyone.

Average tapas restaurant. Overpriced and since its tapas you do not get a lot of food for the price. Food is delicious don’t get me wrong. You just have to come with the mindset of spending a lot of money to leave full. Or you just come for an appetizer type of food. Sangria is delicious. It’s a very nice atmosphere and they have plenty parking spaces.

The best upscale dining in Carrollwood! I love that it’s authentic and homemade. I’m so over the chain restaurants. Ambiance is very nice with the live music. Service was nice. I still think about this meal and my mouth waters. Very good seafood.

I am upgrading my review to 5 stars as we discovered you CAN have a quiet intimate dinner before 9 on a Saturday night. The service tonight was outstanding! Even the owner/chef himself checked on us. The food as usual was outstanding! My hubby had the paella which is a WET paella! If you like a dry paella don’t order that here. There is another place in S Tampa that does a dry version. We happen to like the wet version. I had 2 Tapas. The first was Eggplabt with mixed cheeses including goat. I am not a goat cheese fan and the waitress said she didn’t like goat cheese either but assures me she loved the dish. She was 100% correct! So good! My 2nd tapa was the fish ball stuffed with lobster and an incredible sauce. I get it almost every time. This is a wonderful restaurant for special occasions, to impress out of town guests or to have a romantic evening. A must try!

Tapas. Drink. Spanish Food. Place to hang out in classy way. This is the place. The Vizcaya is just like it name Tapas Bar Restaurant. The ambients display with a color full toro art at the entrance and some charcoal bull painting. It also has the toro bull fighters dress that is very colorful. It mimics the bull fighting in Spain. The dinning hall set up is very nice. We have ordered the Zarzuela de Mariscos and North Atlantic Lemon Sole with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat as entrees and Cazuelita de Conejo as tapas or appetizer. The appetizer is a braise rabbit meat in wine sauce. Like sauce very much. The Zarzuela is mix of seafood with fish, shrimp and scallops over rice with seafood sauce. Very similar to Puerto Rican mafungo seafood base sauce. The sole is top with tomato base crab meat. This dish may be can improve by pan seared the sole with light marinated spice. I have sole in Spain and they can prepare the sole better. Overall it is very good experience. Like the pre-meal bread dipping sauce.

Great customer service but unimpressive food for the price. Lets start with the good. I really really enjoyed the dining experience itself. Our waiter was funny, thoughtful, attentive and very well informed about the menu. He answered all of our questions and really made it a seamless process to order our food. Our water was filled at all times and between the appetizers and the entrée they cleaned the tables and made the dining experience feel like that of a high end restaurant. On to the bad… I came here because I had a groupon that was $ 25 for $ 50 dollars worth of food. In my opinion the the food was on the pricer side considering the quality. Each of the items on the tapas menu cost from about $ 8 – 10. I found most of the items on the menu to be overly salty. Of the 4 tapas we ordered, I would only recommend is the Merluzita Rellena which was fish stuffed with lobster and seafood bisque sauce. For the entrée, we ordered the lamb shank and once again… very salty and had an overly«gravy-like» taste to it. However, the meat itself was very tender and probably would have tasted great with a different sauce or seasoning. 5 out 5 for the service. Probably one of the best dining experiences ever. 2 – 3 out 5 for the food… unfortunately.

This restaurant is very busy. Try to reserve a table of your planning to go on a friday night dinner! We sat outside due to the reason that the place is busy. Outside dining is not bad I think that was the best choice rather than waiting for a while to be seated inside! At first kinda got disappointed coz I asked for a water with lemon but our server just have me a plain water. But I let that slide. As starving costumer we ordered paella, pâté, pulpo, and ceviche. The food is okay. I was just wondering about the paella it wasn’t I expect as paella. The rice was not that dry it looks like it was a risotto. More or less it was okay. Enjoyed my friend company!

It used to be one of my favorite places to go until this rude bartender served us. She was in such a bad mood that we just left and never went back to this place. I love the atmosphere with the live music. I am going to give it another try sometime soon, but her attitude totally ruined the place for me. The food is very good, not crazy about their paella I must say.

I was here recently on a Sunday evening for dinner with a friend. I was not very impressed. Pros: The décor is very nice. The bathroom is clean. The presentation of the food is lovely as well. The wine list seemed extensive. Cons: The hostesses did not seem to know what they were doing or what was going on. Very confusing. The one that seated us told us that the menu was limited as the kitchen was out of everything. Then once our server arrived, he stated that that was incorrect and everything on the menu was available. Maybe work on communication between staff? They don’t serve lemonade or tea(sweet/unsweet), which is a con for me. Only soda, water and booze available. The layout is odd, with tables set up in the middle of the aisles, I had to avoid getting hit in the head by servers walking by with trays/high chairs. Food quality was ok, I’ve had better. Also, the location seems pretty random. Its in a plaza with random shops. Also, they don’t give you straws for your water(pet peeve of mine). Overall, it was an ok place, don’t think I will eat here again though unless someone else is paying.

I came here with a friend a few months ago. I’d heard about this place for a long time and was excited to try it. The restaurant had great décor including a fun bar area and live music. I was surprised by how big it was. On to the food and drinks! My friend and I started with the blood orange margarita. It had great flavor and was not too sweet. You could really taste the rich blood orange flavors. For tapas, we got a range of different things to sample. It came with fresh bread that was warm and doughy. We shared the house salad, the mariscos en salsa rosa, and the vieras con chorizo. The house salad was fresh and had a nice, light dressing. The mariscos en salsa rosa was beautifully presented. The shrimp were tender and had a pleasant sweetness. The avocado was ripe and acted as a perfect boat for the seafood. The vieras con chorizo were excellent as well. The scallops were perfectly cooked and plump. The chorizo had a nice chew and a deep smoky flavor. The sauce for the vieras was the real winner. My friend and I sopped that up as much as possible. We ended with the tiramisu which was okay but nothing special. Overall, it was a fun experience. The service was generally good, and the ambiance was fun. Price-wise, it was about normal for a tapas place. I look forward to coming back some time.

Located on N Dale Mabry in Carrollwood. I’ve passed this place by many times. It’s nothing much to look at from the outside with a few outdoor tables. But the décor when you walk in was quite the opposite. Clean looking with a lively bar area and cool art work on the walls. They have cold and warm tapas. Met a friend for dinner and we had drinks. Mine was a Moscow mule and was good and strong. We ordered a few tapas to share, the cold one was the mariscos en salsa rosa which is crab meat, lobster and shrimp in an avocado. This is served with a remoulade sauce. Was very good, though small. Too much sauce that wasn’t spicy and tasted more like Russian dressing. We ordered the hot vieras con chorizo, sea scallops with sherry vinegar beurre blanc sauce that was to die for! The bread was served with a nice olive oil blend, but I dipped it into this sauce instead. A bit of a mix up with our shared salad. We ordered a field greens salad with hearts of palm and let the server know we would be splitting it. He brought us what looked like a Caesar salad. When I brought it to his attention, he brought us out a small plate of a few tiny sliced hearts of palm. Oh well. I would definitely come back to try the paella and other options.

It is A-okay! I really wanted to give this place 4 stars because of the superior ambiance, but in the end, Unilocal is about the food and the food here is just okay, so it stands at a three. My boyfriend and I ordered four tapas ranging from meat to vegetarian to seafood and with every passing item we looked at each other and had the same experience: where’s the flavor? It wasn’t that anything we ate was bad; but nothing we had any zip or pizzaz. No spice or flavor was emphasized or balanced. The food aside, it is a great venue for drinks at their bar. Seriously cool bar and lounge(just look at my pics!) with live music on the weekends. Ambiance: is easy four stars. Everything decorated in a Spanish red and dark wood with modern Spanish art on the walls. Super cute. When you make reservations, you want to request the dining room if you want a quiet date for talking otherwise, if you have a group of people, you’ll want to request a table in the lounge. The lounge is their second dining room that is combined with their cool lounge featuring a live band and bar area all commingled together in a really cool way.

Vizcaya is one of my favorite places to have dinner with me and my girlfriends– perfect place for a romantic date too. They just remodeled too & it looks so much better. On the weekends, they have music playing and people dancing. We love ordering the tapas here– our favorites are the oxtail, seafood ceviche, and the shrimp wrapped in pork belly. A must! — order a pitcher of their sangria — get the orange blossom pie(sort of like key lime pie but with oranges) with the side of crema catalana(orange infused créme brûlée). It just melts in your mouth.

Visited Vizcaya on a whim this past Wednesday night. I have been wanting to try their paella since moving to Tampa 4 years ago, but it had always escaped me for some reason. We ordered the oxtail, the panko crusted fish, the empanadas… and of course, the seafood paella. I had never tried oxtail before(no particular reason) and I really enjoyed it. All servings for the tapas were more than I expected, so a good value for sure. The paella was a TAD disappointing just because I felt like the rice wasn’t cooked as far as I personally like… it was more mushy I suppose? At any rate, it was still fantastic and the seafood was very tasty. The waiter was extremely attentive and thoroughly answered all of our questions regarding the menu. I think the setup of the restaurant is worth noting. While the restaurant was really bare when we went, I could see how the bar area with mini-dancefloor and seating is separated from a dining area. You could easily enjoy dinner without feeling overcrowded and drowned out by the bar scene close by.
