The Twisted Iron

The unexpected grandeur of a street food truck is something that I only recently discovered. After seeing hearty photos of meals from The Twisted Iron, my fiancé and I knew we had to try it out.
We found the truck’s schedule on their Facebook page. Food trucks require ‘hounding’ and that element of intrigue was a first. We had tried the sister truck, The Twisted Indian, months prior and we knew it would not disappoint.
We both ordered the Fried Chicken Waffle Fries. They were topped with a generous dollop of sour cream and the chicken was very flavorful. The food was ‘made to order’ and we received a comforting, hot meal in a disposable foil pan. We really enjoyed it and look forward to visiting again. It’s very exotic! I just wish they had closer stops to me!

Oh when this truck comes to the DAILY USF food truck rally, my work «wife» and I head out. Now if you are looking for healthy stuff, just turn around. This is not the truck for you.
Our standard order is fried chicken & waffle fries topped with cheese, sour cream, g onions, & sirracha! Oh my this is simply ah-​ma-​zing. The mix of crisp, seasoned waffle fries, with chopped chicken and all the fixings is just delish. As I approached the truck, someone walked away with a pulled pork stuffed belguim waffle — I almost chased him down it smelled so good — not really BBQ, but it smelled like a korean-​kinda-​kick. Squirrel. Let me get back to our order!
We share it, its huge — BUT the twisted iron should really add a touch more chicken– I would be very happy.
To top off our order, we get the make you own waffle bites. This is a belguim-​style waffle, chopped up and fried (I told ya, not healthy) with the toppings of your choice — we choose nutella, strawberries, bacon, whipped cream and powdered sugar.
It is so so good. You will eat it ALL, then enter into a food coma for the remainder of the afternoon (our poor post Twisted Iron patients!)

Waffles and pork were amazing. Had some at the Pierce Street Market today. Will definitely be coming back for more. Cheese, pork, BBQ sauce… all very fresh.

After months of stalking, the stars finally aligned and I caught up with this truck (lunchtime at cypress center)! The menu consists of lots of topped waffle fries (which are seasoned pretty well on their own) and some sandwiches like the pulled pork waffle. I however went for the bbq bacon burger waffle, which wasn’t bad. The flavors matched, but it wasn’t as sweet as you’d probably think. It was also kind of dry, which in hindsight perhaps is a no brainer due to waffles as «buns». I will likely try the pulled pork waffle next time, as I think a juicier meat will work better. The fries were perfect, and I look forward to trying different varieties. There were ample toppings (bacon & cheese for me) to go around, and they were very tasty. I stalked their Facebook page (and later started following it and opting for their posts to appear first on my newsfeed) which has their weekly schedule, so I’d suggest the same to anyone looking to try this truck. I will be back again to try more of their delicious and creative offerings.

One of the best food trucks in the area with a great menu to boot! I’ve gone out of my way to grab food from the truck and it’s always been a great decision. Love the waffle bites and for a short time they had one of the best monte cristo sandwiches I’ve ever had.
They update their weekly schedule on Facebook, so definitely check that out to see if they’ll be close to you. It’s worth it!

The best food trucks are the ones which offer some variety and food that you don’t see often at brick and mortar restaurants. Twisted Iron definitely fits the bill. I ordered a waffle BBQ Bacon burger and it was the best thing I ate all week (actually I had a lot of good food this week but this was quite memorable). ½ pound burger, seemed small at first but it was more vertical than horizontal… perfectly cooked and juicy… topped with crispy bacon, BBQ sauce and cheesy goodness and sandwiched between waffles. Burgerlicious!
The pork nachos looked really good. I’ll have to try that some time. The chicken and waffles also seem to be a big hit. Pretty much everything on the menu interested me. Service was friendly and the food was reasonably priced and came out pretty fast. *****

In a food truck food court, one food truck stood out in stark contrast above the others, it was Twisted Iron. Why? they had a line. We were at the front of this line and I was happy for that, because it was chilly under the Bridge at Pierce street market.
Both the husbeast and I got Chicken & Waffles. The wait time was short but the food portions were large. 3 juicy pieces of chicken atop a large waffle, a serving of smuckers breakfast syrup and I THINK It was honey Mustard, but since I don’t use it, I gave that to the husband.
The chicken was good. VERY VERY GOOD. it had a nice flavour and was perfectly cooked. THe only thing about the waffle I can say negative is that it wasn’t light. it was very heavy and dense, and that’s not the way I prefer my waffles. Bt the flavour was spot on and yum to my mouth!
I ate all the chicken and ¼ the waffle. The husbeastie was a member of the clean plate club!

If you get the chance to eat here you should take it! I have had a number of different things from the menu but my favorite is the waffle fries with extra bacon, cheese, sour cream and scallions! So much goodness going on with that!!! They chicken and waffles are really good also. They change out menu items from time to time but the chicken and waffles and the waffle fries have been constant. Totally worth a visit!

Awesome food truck! I’ve had them a couple of times at different events in the Tampa Bay area. Service was friendly both times. Lines can get pretty long as this is a popular truck. Food truck stands out and love the name!
I’ve only had the chicken and waffles so far. Chicken is fried perfectly– not greasy and is seasoned well. Waffle is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They serve it up w/​syrup and honey mustard. It’s a full size portion so prices are on point for what you get. I will need to order a dessert waffle next time!

Surprised I haven’t posted a review for Twisted Iron before — I’ve tried them a number of times since they arrived on the road. From their waffle fries to their chicken and waffles — Twisted Iron has always whipped out some tasty food truck eats that are both unique and delicious. I was really happy to see them out and about after Tampa Luv Chicken’s unfortunate ending.
Although I’m not originally from Tampa, I would say my taste for fried chicken and waffles is probably the most Southern thing about me and Twisted Iron delivers. The owners are young and friendly — clearly passionate about their food. Prices average $ 6-​$ 10 which is standard for food truck food.
The actual food truck itself is modern with a clean wrap and mostly visible interior. I’m not much of a dessert guy — but I do like waffle dessert choices that are offered by Twisted Iron.
Shoutout to Anna M. for sharing some of her pulled pork waffle fries with me today at the food court — they were delicious and hit the spot! I hope to see Twisted Iron around soon with some new creations.

I have had the Twisted Iron Food Truck bookmarked for a long time. I finally was able to catch up with them at the Summer of Rum Festival this past weekend and I was not disappointed! Plus, I needed sustenance to soak up all the rum I had been drinking.
I ordered the basic Chicken and Waffle and they were delicious. The chicken was flavorful and the waffle was good. The portion was perfect.
The staff was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. I can’t wait to try some of their other dishes when I hopefully catch up with them again!

I have been trying to track down this food truck since seeing it on the news about a year ago. I never make it to the food truck rallies and it is hard keeping up with Twisted Iron’s busy schedule but I am sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook to keep up in case they get near me. Recently they were in from of the Bright-​house building on Carillon Parkway in St. Pete. Even though that not my company I made sure all my co– workers knew about it to throw them some business.
I must say that I was not disappointed one bit. Everything we had was phenomenal. The nutella waffle with strawberries and bananas was divine. The loaded waffle fries were fresh, crisp and delish, The chicken and waffles were hot and tasty. My co– worker is from California and advised that they are right up there with Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. They definitely are taking a great twist on the plain old waffle and make it a phenomenal food venture. I can not wait to track them down again.
We were served by Elaine and she was doing a great job keeping up with the lunch rush because we only waited 7 minutes for all of our orders to be completed.

Yay for Twisted Iron and our awesome neighborhood providing goodies to us. The Waffle bites with any toppings we want were wonderful.
I picked strawberries, ice cream, nutella, and whip cream with graham cracker crunch. Super sweetilicious.
I can’t wait to run back to you again when I see you at a future food truck festival, event, etc.

Went to a food truck rally and this truck had one of the longest lines. The menu sounded really yummy (all waffle style entrees) so we decided to wait out the line. It was worth the wait! We got pulled pork waffle fries and a waffle bits dessert. I don’t know what they put in there batter but you just want to keep eating more.

Their food truck is awesome. Huge portions, reasonably priced and the food is delicious. Their fried chicken loaded waffle fries are in point, I add bacon to them. Friendly people, just all around good food. I wish they would come to my job more often!

If you find this place with an absolutely huge line than consider yourself lucky. First time I found this truck was in a food truck rally and they had the longest line by far. Thinking it must be good I found my place in the back and started my long journey to the cashier. Once you actually pay for your food it’s another little wait to actually get your food. But let me tell, if your ever going to wait in line to get food, this is it.
I’m actually surprised at how worth it this food was to eat. If your in the mood for loaded fries this place has got you cover, or if you just want your good old pulled pork shoved between two waffle buns than your good here too. Best part in my opinion is that the prices here are actually not that bad.
All in all if I saw this truck anywhere on the street I jump in line for a bite.

The fried chicken waffle fries were the most perfectly crispy waffle fries I’ve ever had. Topping were a great mix — more food should come with scallions, don’t you think?
S’mores waffle bites were great, I loved everything in small bits so you can get all the flavors in one forkful.
Next time it will be the Elvis waffle for sure!

This is my second time coming here. The people that run this truck are so nice. I needed information from them recently & they personally responded to my messages on Facebook so that I could find out when to find them. Their waffles are so delicious in the quality of the meat that they put on their sandwiches are great. They are amazing! You must try them!!! Best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had!!!

Sweet and savory as the previous reviewer described. Ordered the ‘shroom burger just before stepping into Cigar City on Spruce and Dale Mabry. The patty was well cooked and the uniqueness of adding a sweet waffle to the burger made it an interesting meal. Although for a 9 $ burger, I was expecting more atleast in terms of quantity.

Another lunch break food adventure led me to The Twisted Iron. This Truck seems relatively new on the food truck scene, but they bring the waffle as the vehicle to sweet and savory sandwich build.
First that comes to mind when waffles are used is??? Chicken and waffles!!! The sweet and salty souther treat. Unfortunately, since I was trying to curb my appetite with plans of a great dinner ahead, I opted for something a little lighter.
I ordered the french onion grilled cheese (is this really lighter then chicken n waffles:-/) the onions were sweated down in a french onion soup and once reduced they were further cooked down in to bring out the natural sweetness of the onion. The were piled on the waffle then topped with provolone cheese.
I thought the flavors were good, but was not well distributed in every bite. The waffle is an absorbent when used a a bun play. My suggestion would be to have a small side of french onion for dipping purposes. Like the same play of grilled cheese and tomato soup. I do like that the waffle seems like it is made from scratch with balance flavor to use it either sweet or savory. I would like a crunchier exterior, but I understand that would slow production time down if each waffle were made to order.
I also noted that each menu item seemed a little safe in terms of how they were build. Meaning there wasn’t some unique that made it stand out from any other sandwich build. In my opinion, I would suggest a unique condiment goes a long way in making a marquee sandwich. At a price $ 7 and up per menu item and $ 3 for fries and drink upgrade. I would expect fresh cut fries or chips, as most food trucks use to keep a unique competitive edge.
All in all service was fast and pleasant. Hopefully some of their items evolve as they grow on the food truck scene. I plan to try the chicken and waffles the next time they are nearby. Follow them on FB or twitter to note their whereabouts.
