Great sandwiches, really nice staff. I would go here again and often. I just wouldn’t order the Cuban sandwich again. It’s not a Cuban. Good Cuban bread– check! Ham, mustard, pickles– Check! Pork? Pork? Where are you pork? There is not a hint of roasted pork on it. You cannot make a Cuban without it. But otherwise it was a good sandwich. Had I known, I would have tried one of their own amazing sandwiches or salads.

Sub Shak has become my new go-to stop for a quick lunch. I always love giving business to a local joint and Sub Shak makes that a pleasure. My usual order is a sub — either beef bologna or tuna and the subs are always delicious. The lightly toasted bread makes a great platform for great toppings. The deli meats are sliced super thin and piled high. I also appreciate their frequent buyer program with stamps for subs purchased. I recently claimed my first free sub and I know it won’t be my last!

I LOVESUBSHAK! The Marathon hot sub is perfect! The staff are very informative and friendly. The sub meats are sliced every day and very delicious. Way better than the chain sub places. This is a very clean establishment if eating in. I’ve seen this place for years and am very sorry for not trying them sooner. I definitely will be returning to try more of what they have to offer. Thanks to Unilocal for introducing me to Sub Shak!

YES! I think I may have found my new favorite sub shop! Let me start off by saying these guys are amazing. The staff are so friendly and professional and actually care about the customer. Right off the bat because of the employees you know your gonna enjoy yourself! Great job guys! Now on to the food just wow! The quality of their meats are some of the best I’ve ever had. Not only that but let me tell you they are not at all stingy with the MEAT! To see what I mean just look at the picture of my sandwich down below. I’m willing to make such a bold statement as they will beat any chain sub shop any day of the week! Their menu is pretty simple you got all your typical hot/cold subs. Cubans, all types of cold cuts, steak, meatball sandwiches you name it. Inside is really nice kinda small but that’s okay. Two big screen tv’s along the walls and very clean. There wasn’t a moment a dirty table would go unattended. There is a little room for outdoor seating as well if that’s your thing. These guys figured out how it’s done and ran with it. With me they have now gained a new customer for life! I suggest to anyone even if your not a sub person just give them a try you will not be disappointed. I would never just stick a five star rating on a place just because. In my book if you get a five star it’s because your perfect and I couldn’t find one thing wrong with the place. Great job guys I can’t wait to return.

I love this place. It’s locally owned, the staff is always friendly and the food is amazing! I love their chicken salad subs and I’ve had their steak subs as well. My co-workers order here often and they are always happy :-) The food is always fresh and they are reasonably priced! Support local shops!

Why 4 stars? Because it’s quick, convenient, and inexpensive. — — — «Cheap» feels like a dirty word for some reason, so I’ll try to avoid it. Sub Shak is AFFORDABLE :) They offer some pretty basic hot and cold subs in medium and large sizes. I went with the steak and cheese, which definitely hit the spot. The menu is no frills. You’re not going to find any specialty subs here — it’s pretty basic with any cold cut combination you can think of — ham and turkey, ham and swiss, turkey and swiss, etc. That would be the only thing holding Sub Shak back from the 5th star, in my eyes. I’d love to see the menu branch out a tad more. But it’s a great local business with super nice people, and only minutes away from my new place, which I’m stoked for!

Popped in here for lunch this afternoon with my brother and we were both very pleased. He ordered the meatball sub, I got a supreme. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly and prices seemed reasonable. My sub contained an ample mix of deli meats and cheese along with the usual suspects of toppings and condiments. Food came out quickly and we were chowing down within just a few minutes of placing our orders. My brother scarfed down his meatball sub so quickly I didn’t really get a chance to try it but he wouldn’t hesitate to order it again and we both plan to come back. He also ordered some hot boiled peanuts to-go and we snacked on a few before hitting the road — they were well seasoned, at the right temperature, and had the perfect amount of softness to them. We hear the chicken salad is exceptionally popular although they were out of it by the time we arrived(about 1 hour before closing). The only reason I’m not giving it a 5 like so many other reviewers is simply because it’s not the best sandwich/sub shop I’ve ever been to. That said, it may be my new favorite in the Tampa area.

Sub Shak has been in this same location for years! It is located in a small strip mall off Gunn Hwy., on the North side of the road, just West of Hudson Lane. This little Sub Shak has certainly held its own over the years and has built a loyal, large & song customer base. If you go directly around noon, expect a bit of a wait, as they get a regular crowd. When you enter Sub Shack, you are impressed with the cleanliness and the fragrant smells that slap you in the face, in the very best possible way. You will always get friendly and efficient service. They usually have a daily lunch special, so don’t forget to check that out. I love all of their sandwiches, but my personal favorite is the tuna. Their tuna is superior to any other I have ever tried. It is not full of a million things, but is a perfect light tuna, not too goopy and generous portions. Their sub rolls are absolutel perfection. This has been a family owned and operated restaurant since it’s inception in the 1990’s. The family pride and love is shown in each dish they serve. Why would anyone go to those chain sub stores, when you have a great independent, local shop as great as the Sub Shak? Truly it doesn’t get much better than the Sub Shak. What’s a girl to do? I have been a customer since they opened & have enjoyed their food for years.

Pleasently suprised :-). The only reason I went in to eat here is because Sub Shak sponsered my son’s soccer team and it was the Team mom’s idea to visit as a team on Saturday(Go Tigers). I have been passing by this place for years and never thought to stop and give it a try. Thanks Kelly for the team lunch idea. Although the Subs here a smaller than the average Publix or Subway sandwiches but the Subs here are AWESOME and made just the way you want to them. The price is very reasonable. I had a veggie sub with jalapeño peppers for a small up charge and it was Yum Yum99. My son had a pizza sub and he loved it. You know when your kid love a meal they will eat it quick without you having to telling them constantly eat. I also tried the crab cake and thankfully it was not overly breaded like most places do but it had to much tomato for my liking. I’m assuming Sub Shak family owned, the staff was extremly friendly and very catering, the only con for me was that the place was small but I guess when you have an entire soccer team with their family in one place, there wont be more room to move around. I was very suprised with the subs here and they are worth every penny. Sub Shak Thanks for Sponsoring Plantation Soccer Team«Tigers» aka«The Fighting Tigers.»

Went there based on the previous reviews. I did not share the same experience as others. To start with their menu boards were out of date, so they just covered up ingredients that they are no longer offering. Their hot subs were put into a microwave to heat, no ovens to be found. No meat slicers either so I assume that all there meats come in pre-cooked and sliced. Very limited menu options or creativity, standard sub meat selections. Prices were fine, but this is not the type of food I want to be paying for. Is it to much to ask for sub places to cook and season their own meat and then slice their own meat? Place was decked out in sports stuff. They no longer are serving fountain beverages because Pepsi is charging them to much, according to the numerous signs throughout the place. Place had the look and feel of a place that has seen better days.

Very surprising that this local’s favorite only has one other Unilocal review. What’s not surprising is that it’s a five-star review by THE2012 Unilocal Rookie of the Year, do you know who he is! Amazing. Forget Subway or Quiznos, this place is the shizzz(remember, extra«z’s» mean it’s extra special). Not to mention, your food will probably taste even better knowing you didn’t have to decided between paying your electric bill versus eating here. Great prices! I think the money they saved on leaving off the«c» in «shack» was passed onto the customers. How thoughtful! Haven’t had anything not super delish. But, here are some highlights: — Meatball Sub — Tuna Sub — The Marathon: so good! Yes, happy to say, I’ve done a «marathon»! This is the type of eatery every local should know of to help support — which it isn’t hard to eat great food.

Sub Shak is a true local gem located along Gunn Highway in southern Carrollwood. Owners Wendy & Jerry Crabb have had the place since 1996, and they’ve got the whole family involved in making sandwiches and visiting with their customers. This is a small, family-owned, locals-favorite restaurant. They’re always busy at lunch time, but it’s much less crowded in the evenings. They serve hot subs(including Cubans), cold subs, salads, and party platters. My favorite part of the restaurant is their dedication to the local Tampa sports teams — you’ll see a lot of signed photos and mementos all over the walls. Wendy also takes great joy in decorating their place for a favorite customer’s birthday, or for an upcoming Holiday. I snapped a photo of her Easter display and you’ll find that in the pictures from the restaurant. Tonight I had the Supreme Italian cold cut sub special with chips and a drink. The sub was served on a toasted whole wheat sub roll with ham, pepperoni, capicola, Genoa & cotto salami plus provolone cheese, lite Italian dressing, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The quality of the food is MUCHMUCH better than those larger chain sandwich shops, and the warm family atmosphere is a very pleasant change. You’ll find Sub Shak on Gunn Highway, just north of Linebaugh Avenue, in between Mullis City Way and Casey Road.
