Groovy Cats & Dogs is a health food store for cats and dogs. We specialize in holistic — or all natural — food and treats for your canine and feline companions. Your pet’s health and wellness is our #1 goal. We host a variety of educational events and workshops so pet owners can learn more about nutrition and other health-​related pet issues. We provide in-​store obedience training, carry a good selection of basic accessories, toys, grooming accessories (shampoos, spritzes and nail clippers), as well as collars and leashes.

History

Established in 2006.

After the loss of Penny, a 4-​year old chocolate labrador, we started researching information about how and why such a young dog would succumb to lymphoma (a type of cancer). We discovered that many of the chronic health issues our pets are experiencing are tied to the poor quality of nutrition you find in foods available in the mainstream pet food industry, i.e. big box stores. We continued to research the pet industry and decided it was something we wanted to pursue. We discovered that Tampa is generally underserved in both the number of specialty pet food stores that offer holistic nutrition and the number of holistic veterinarians available. So we set out to build an environment that is focused on educating pet owners about nutrition and providing resources to help them make more informed decisions when it comes to caring for their pets.

With over 20 years experience in B2B marketing primarily in the healthcare industry, Yvonne has enjoyed working to build GC&D changing her focus from B2B marketing to consumer marketing. It’s much more challenging being a small business owner. You have to be so much more resourceful! So, why a holistic pet boutique? Al and Yvonne lost a young 4-​year-​old Chocolate Labrador Retriever to Lymphoma, a type of cancer common in dogs, in 2004. Yvonne applied her research background to learn why such a young and healthy dog would succumb to cancer at such an early age. She decided to focus on all-​natural nutrition and other ways to promote wellness naturally. She educated herself on the pet food industry, met mentor Val Clows of Holistic for Pets in Sarasota and continues to learn and make meaningful connections in the industry.
