Had a bad experience. Having issue with my car brakes. I was not sure what it is, so checked online for offers/​cpupon and found that AAMCO and Pep boys offer free Brake diagnosis service. I called Pep boys to confirm and they said yes it’s free, over the phone. I booked the appointment and went there. After the diagnosis, they came with a bill and when I asked it suppose to be free they said no it’s not.
I don’t have issue with paying for the service but they should not lie to the customer. Plus the guy was very rude.
They gave me the quote for the required service my car needs but I don’t trust them any more. I will never go to this place again.

I came in 1 day to get my AC fixed which Pep Boys did a good job but I also had them check out my check engine light and paid for a full diagnostic. I was told by Pep Boys the code they pulled up was due to a bad catalic converter. I was told by pep boys they didn’t want to service and install that part and I should go somewhere else. After going to a different shop that specializes in catalic converters, I was told that the code that came up wasn’t a catalic code at all but an Evap code. The other shop was 100% right! Pep Boys was wrong and gave me bad information and I did further checking and provided proof that they gave me bad information. What really upset me is that I felt very ripped off and taken! I had 2 pay twice for the same diagnostic! I showed proof to the manager at Pep Boys that he was wrong and that they ripped me off! The guy was a total jerk! He kept arguing with me and telling me his mechanic was right even though I showed proof that he was wrong! What happened to the customer is always right and don’t argue with your customers??? No apologies what so ever! The jerk didn’t offer anything to make things right! Don’t waste your time with this shop! Try the Pep Boys on Kirkwood Hwy in Wilmington, DE. Instead. I got better service from that shop instead.

I don’t usually go to pep boys but since they’re the Main player in town I have to. Just went to return an ac recharge can and had a manager give me the shittiest attitude ever. If I can’t use something then let me return it. If I can’t return a used item then tell me. You work in a customer service job in cases no one told you.
Add this to the long line of stuff pep boys everywhere has screwed up. I’ll never come to another one of these god awful places again.

This service center is a disaster. I started using this location for service spring of 2014 after moving to Wilmington from Newark. The Newark location has always done a great job. I first scheduled an appointment with the Talleyville (202) store for shaking at highway speeds. They recommended new tires. I went with the new tires and the shaking continued. Brought my car in again and they determined it may be from rear brakes, so I replaced the rear brakes. Shaking continued. Brought it back and they could not offer a solution. I took it to the dealer and they immediately determined that the new tires had not been balanced… WHAT??? Pep-​Boys could not figure this out??? They installed the tires!!! Unforgivable. The shaking was gone following the balance by The dealer. Pep Boys refunded me the money for the balance.
Related incident… I had taken my vehicle to this Pep Boys prior to the shaking issue for an issue with my parking brake (The parking brake suddenly failed and would not grip the rear brakes). Pep boys tightened the parking cable which did nothing. It was only after they incorrectly recommended the rear pads and rotors be replaced (I replaced the rear pads and rotors myself) for the shaking issue that I found the parking brake had crumbled inside the rotor. Apparently the Pepe boys tech didn’t bother to inspect the parking brake pads at all.
Wait there’s more… When I returned the first time following the new tires they said they had no record of them installing my tires. They tried looking me up by name, address, phone… nothing. I had to go home and get the receipt. Then all the sudden they found my records when I produced the receipt. How convenient.

I always come here for my oil change but the people in services aren’t always nice. The floor workers are very nice and try to help you as much as possible. They try to work with you to get deals and coupons. Service representatives will simply just say no. There is usually a really long wait no matter when you arrive or if you have an appointment. The prices are usually high and they don’t have coupons often I come here because it’s close to my home but i would prefer to find a much nicer place to get my car serviced.

Pep Boys always delivers good service on the floor with the sales associates. Other than that the mechanics tend to always claim that you need more than you actually do plus they always underestimate the time it will take, which is annoying so thankfully we went out to lunch knowing this. To make a long review short I wish there were more affordable reliable repair shops in the area to try out.

What’s the point of making an appointment if they don’t follow it?! My car finally went into the garage an hour after the appointment time. PepBoys in Newark, DE is far more efficient and friendlier.

Disrespectful and ignorant brutes, this is the only way I can describe the people at this Pep-​boys. My car had broken down, so I had it towed here at their recommendation to have it fixed. When they found out that the fuel pump needed to be replaced they called and said they did not want to work on the car because it would take too much time to replace. When I came to pick it up and to discuss why they could not repair it in house, they stated they did not want to do the repair because it would take too long and they didn’t want to spend too much time on one car, besides the fact that this was a 3k job I would be paying for. They kept cutting me off when trying to find out the details of their findings and the guy checking me out kept carrying on a conversation about a party he was excited about going to that night with the other pep boys employees. The customer service I received and the overall experience had been then worst I have known in over 10 yrs. I will never set foot in this location or store again.

Customer service representative behind the service desk was extremely rude and non helpful. I went to get my wiper blades replaced. He said pull up to door one or two. I said then what? He said wait, I said for how long? He could not give me an answer. He had poor professionalism skills and refused to make eye contact. He needs training on servicing customers. Extremely poor service. I dont know his name, but he wears a thick gold link chain.

I had a flat nearby and brought my car here to get it fixed. They didn’t return the spare. When I noticed that it was missing and asked them about it, they laughed and said they couldn’t do anything (basically they called me a liar). Now I have to buy a new spare because they stole mine. So I would definitely recommend NOT going to this place.

We have taken our car here twice for tire changes/​rotations.
Drop off at 8 AM on a Saturday and picked up at 1 PM.
However, the first round of «cheap» tires we selected gave out at 45,000 miles.
Let’s hope this next round lasts a bit longer.

I never brought my car here for any real work, only oil changes and for the most part it was kind of like going to the dentist — necessary, but unpleasant, uncomfortable, and it took *way* longer than I thought it was going to.
Then, in August of 2011, I brought it in for a routine oil change and new brake pads… And here’s what went down…
I had called earlier in the day to ask the price of new brake pads and labour, but when I arrived the price had doubled and when I tried to call the guy on it, he gave me some song and dance about how I was the one he spoke to and I, because as the bearer of ovaries, clearly don’t understand how to ask the proper question about replacing brake pads, was wrong… I’m used to this kind of silliness as garages, so I let it go.
They say two hours. … So, I sit and I wait because there’s nothing around there and they have my car. Two hours came and went — no car. Four hours came and went and I was getting a little frustrated, so I asked about it. In the usual condescending tone, I was told that it would be ready when it was ready.
After five hours a mechanic comes back to tell me that they’re having trouble replacing the calipers (which they hadn’t bothered to let me know they were doing) and that they are going to have to replace the knuckle as well, but they don’t have the parts and it’s going to be a day before they can get them… Le sigh, but alright.
So, I ask if someone can drive me home. This is, perhaps, the only saving grace — the guy that drove me home was super sweet and really nice to talk to.
The next day the same guy picks me up, drives me over and I’m greeted with the information that, although they’ve replaced everything under the sun on my wheel (to the tune of $ 700), there’s this bizarre scraping because (although no other mechanic had ever noticed it) my axle was bent (I have a suspicion they dropped it off the lift, but since I can’t prove it…). So, they charged me the $ 700 and told me my wheel was probably going to fall off anyway and I said, «Don’t worry. I have someone else I usually take it to. I’m sure they can handle it.» When i get back to my car… it won’t start.
Now I’m beginning to get a little miffed, so I go back inside and I talk to the mechanics and they’re like, ‘Huh? What? Huh?’ And they try to tell me that the car I drove into their business wasn’t running when I dropped it off. I explain that, because it was running when I dropped it off, I expect it to be running when returned to me. They look at it, decide I need a new alternator, a new battery, and probably my transmission is going, but they don’t do those. I knew it wasn’t the battery (I’d had it replaced six months before) and I knew it wasn’t the transmission, so I let them replace the alternator ($ 470 mystifying dollars), but that took another day.
When, at last, I finally got my car back, in enough working condition to get it the hell out of there, the entire interior was (and after almost a year still is no matter how much I clean) coated in this greasy black soot — every inch of it.
My complaint to corporate went un-​heard and I would rather douse my poor car in gasoline and set it on fire than take it back to those louts.

Review of service center, not store:
I’ve been bringing my VW here for routine service for about 2 years. I live in DC, but my parents live in Wilmington. After very frustrating experiences with multiple [overpriced] mechanics in the DC area, I was immediately impressed by the service at this Pep Boys location.
The mechanics are friendly and helpful, and have performed good work on my car for good prices. Routine oil changes, new tires, and even fixing some problems I’ve had. They also always have coupons. Their rewards program is a great bonus, too.
When my check engine light came on and my car kept refusing to start, and VW supposedly couldn’t diagnose the problem, guess who was able to figure it out? These guys. They couldn’t repair it, but they gave me great info so I was able to understand the problem and explain it to a VW mechanic.
But what impressed me the most was how the management team handled a problem I experienced after my most recent visit for some routine service. I could tell they were truly apologetic for the issue I’d encountered, and they helped me get the problem fixed in Northern VA for no charge.
I believe that great service is one thing, but how a company handles service problems says even more about them. Therefore I’ll continue to take my car to this Pep Boys for routine service, and will definitely recommend it to others.
Note: The only real downside I’ve experienced is that they’re usually so busy that if you call you will be waiting a while for them to answer the phone, and they don’t usually call to tell you your car is ready to go. This is something I can deal with.

Conveniently situated on Rte. 202 a few miles before the 95 exit. It’s well-​stocked and folks are friendly. I stopped by to pickup some windshield wash (as the recent snowstorms have depleted my supply) and a replacement for my turning light which had burnt out. It was a fairly quick pitstop.
