Smallcakes--A Cupcakery

Visited the Smallcakes north of I-​10… for the first and last time. I took my daughter as a special treat. There was one other family there, but they were already eating. The server was rather abrupt (and a little glassy eyed). Not friendly, not engaging, not anything. Nor was he attentive; he spent the entirety of our visit in the back. The other downer was that the place had a sour smell… not sweet like most dessert shops and not clean like any restaurant should be.
We will not be back.

Delicious cupcakes with different daily flavors (sopapilla cheesecake and Mexican espresso for Cinco de Mayo). The cake of the cupcakes was well flavored and perfect consistency; there was a touch to much frosting for my taste. A half dozen came out to over $ 20 so these puppies are not cheap. But delicious. So delicious.

I’ve seen this place driving by and it was recently my birthday so I said hey why not stop in. When I first opened the door sweet smells instantly hit my nose!
I purchased 4 cupcakes: Oreo, Keylime, Chocolate with vanilla icing, and a Bearclaw. I thought 3.50 per cupcake was a little high to not be familiar with this place (3 – 3.25 would have been ideal) but I would be interested to know the weight of the cupcakes and if they are cooked fresh daily or and how many days they allow them to sit and refridgrate if any.
Needless to say I ate every last bite over like 3 days. I really liked the taste. Honestly I thought the cupcakes were even better a day later after I had them in the fridge, it was like the taste was stronger.
Being from the DC area I’ve tried all the over hyped cupcake places. Kudos to smallcakes you all definitely know what you are doing.

Tried them for the first time tonight. We bought 3 cupcakes and each tried a third of each cupcake. I have to say I expected them to be much more flavorful, and taste like their names suggested they would. The peanut butter cup one was probably the worst, you could only taste the cream cheese but no peanut butter. The others were a chocolate base and their icing were flavorful– yet really expected them to match the name of the cake.
Maybe we’ll try them one more time, but Publix can make those same everyday cupcakes with much more flavor.

I am totally in love. Cutest place, nice staff and dear Lord, the cupcakes. I love Pink Chocolate. It’s my go to. The frosting is fluffy and creamy and the cupcake is so moist and it just makes me happy. I have been guilty of buying 3 and only 1 making it home. I’m not ashamed. I can’t get enough.

The moistest thing I have ever eaten. Ever. I have been here 3 times in the last month. Always get the vanilla cake with a strawberry or vanilla icing. I am from a small town where we are particular about sweets due to all family members being expert bakers. This cake fits my high standards. The only reason it’s not 5 because it comes with way too much icing. Give me more cake and less icing and this is top notch.

I’ve only been here once. But that is all it took. I tried the vanilla birthday cake, and the red velvet cupcake. Both are moist and delicious. I’m definitely returning. I’m very happy.

I’ll admit that the little pink boxes are adorable, but each time that I’ve gone in (three times now), the cupcakes and the service have been just «okay.» The best cupcake that I have tried is the Red Velvet, but the chocolate and strawberry were dry, and the icing was not good. The icing tasted hard and far too sweet. Plus, at $ 3.50 per cupcake, they’re relatively small in size; you’re better off going to Whole Foods and getting a bigger cupcake at a lower price (I believe they are $ 2.99). The service here is also variable; sometimes there are several people working at the counter, and sometimes I stand there for a few minutes before someone approaches from the back and greets me/​stares at me until I order. Tallahassee is short on cupcake bakeries, and the location of this store is prime. I think that the recipes and service can be improved and this cupcakery will easily continue to be successful.

Great cupcakes in a very cute box. I buy these as gifts all the time. I don’t think they are the best cupcakes in town, however the location of this store is so convenient that this is where I buy the most cupcakes. The pecan pie cupcake was really unusual and also fantastic!

I thoroughly enjoyed my cupcake. The cake was moist and the icing was very tasty. I was impressed with the size and the selections. Just be sure to take cash because there is a minimum to use on your debit card.
Will definitely be going back. Like to support local businesses but this place has great cupcakes.

I’m an aspiring baker so I tend to be critical of others. Especially commercial or chain places like this one. I was brought some as a surprise and was excited to indulge. To my disappoint i was let down. The cake itself wasn’t too bad, no real complaints there, and the size would please any ones eyes. My true letdown was the icing. Granted it was piled on and looked fantabulous it wasn’t. it ruined it all for me. It frosting was way too sweet and grainy. I’m still confused how the frosting was grainy. Of the three that I have had, over a few months period, I’m glad I didn’t spend my own money on it.
Short story: Not worth the money. I’ve experienced better.

It is SO CUTE inside. Beats Lucy and Leos, the cupcakes are big and the frosting is yummy! The people at the shop are also nice :)
Card minimum is 3 something! so you cannot buy just 1 cupcake, unless you carry cash with you!

While I’m regularly a fan of local establishments, Small Cakes really beats out the other places in town. Lucy and Leo’s gets a lot of press, but the consistency and flavors leave something to be desired. Only Tasty Pastry is on par in town.
The cake is always moist, the frosting is not overly heavy, and the flavors are always great. Tequila sunrise and lemon are two of my favorites, but red velvet is their most popular flavor. Perfect size for sharing with a friend.

This place happened to catch my eye while driving through Tallahassee on my way to grab some Chipotle. Its small and hidden if your not from this area but I’m glad I ended up going in. The shop itself was adorable I love the atmosphere and environment! The cupcakes were huge, fluffy, and so moist a it does have a lot of frosting but surprisingly it wasn’t overwhelming like some other cupcakes! It was rich but smooth not like that artificial sugar frosting. My top 2 favorite was the butter pecan and birthday vanilla cupcake :) I was glad to find out that they were a chain and had some locations in Texas so I’ll definitely be visiting those when I get back home hope they are just as good this location.

I got lectured by the cashier for wanting to pay with an American Express. She told me it takes «too much of a toll on a small business». Very rude to say to someone supporting your business by buying 3 cupcakes for $ 10. Just politely let me know you don’t accept AMEX and its no big deal. Our weekly trips here are done. Disappointing, bc the cupcakes are excellent.

This is the best cupcake I have ever had! Unbelievably delicious! This place beats the Cake Shop and Lucy & Leo’s. Amazingly good!

This small cupcake place is a chain cupcake store located in the strip mall next the pet supermarket (around best buy and chipotle). When you walk up the place they have their specials on a small chalkboard outside. Once you get inside you get to see the extremely cute interior décor (see pics). Its very girly and pink. Its perfect place to take your daughter and her friends. I absolutely love whoever did the interior design.
When I heard from a friend who lives has one of these stores nearby where she lives and said that it was good I had to try it. Okay and the fact that it was on Cupcake Wars and that USA today listed it as one of the top ten cupcake places to try in the country. Maybe because I had high expectations I was slightly let down when I tried the vanilla birthday cake cupcake. It was really nothing special. Yes, it was a moist cupcake with a sweet buttercream frosting but I can do that at home. If a place can’t do something better than what I can do at home, I don’t get impressed. It was just a correctly cooked vanilla cupcake with classic buttercream frosting and sprinkles. Thats not hard to achieve in my opinion and experience. Then I wondered if it was because the cupcake I picked to try was not chocolate (usually chocolate desserts of anything tastes better right?). Since my hubby was eating the chocolate cupcake I asked him how it was. His response was «nothing special, especially for a $ 3 something cupcake». I took a bite and agreed. Okay if this was just a Tallahassee cupcake place I probably would review easier because well… Tallahassee isn’t exactly a foodie city with high expectations of their food (lets be real here). But because this place is a chain and from a cupcake war winner and the fame and good reviews its had… it just dosent live up to the hype in my opinion. Its just another place that makes okay cupcakes. At least based off my first time experience going.

Ridiculously delicious and I’m a dessert snob! The cupcake was unbelievably moist and the frosting tasted like candy. The frosting is really sweet (my disclaimer) I had the banana with cream cheese which was better than the yellow cake one. But both were amazing. No wonder they won on cupcake wars. Go!

I LOVE Smallcakes. The cupcakes taste fresh and homemade. They are also very moist. They have great varieties that change daily. My whole family loves this place. I also recently bought 3 dozen for a party and everyone loved them. Not a crumb left!

Ugghhh, these are really dismal. It’s a pretty big chain, and I’m not sure exactly how that happened. The cake itself seems tough and the icing tastes like it came out of a bucket. According to the young lady behind the counter it did. Apparently they get shipments of the stuff and mix in flavorings on site If there’s any butter on the premises I’m unable to detect it. The Cake Shop and Lucy & Leo’s both make excellent cupcakes. Either is a very attractive alternative to Smallcakes.
