Seminole Flatts

I arrived at this complex around 9pm at night to visit a friend. The office was closed, so I could not get a parking pass. I parked my car in a designated visitor spot overnight. When I woke up in the morning, my car was gone. In the 45 minutes that the office had been open they towed my car. I had to pay $ 110 to get it back. Thanks guys, what an inviting place to live.

This place is a dump. Only move here if every other apartment in Tallahassee is already full. Even then, the street would probably be an improvement. There are roach infestations, leaks, mold. Everything is always broken, and maintenance doesn’t do anything to fix it. Crime is ridiculous here because they don’t have any cameras or anything. I even got more car keyed twice. I hope this review saves someone from the hell I’ve had to deal with.

I think most residents here can agree with me that once this place is renovated, this place should be much better than now. This place has its good and bad, but right now unfortunately, mostly bad in my opinion. Hopefully it will get better once its fully renovated. This is a complete and honest review. I have no reason to lie or exaggerate lol. And you can’t lie in pictures right?
PROS:
1: LOCATION– close to school, restaurants/​cafes, supermarkets, on the fsu bus route, clubs/​bars, the football stadium, etc.
2: RENOVATED APARTMENTS NICER– especially compared to the non-​renovated ones)
3: FREE STUFF-​They try to hold events/​give free food and goodies to people and tenants.
4: QUIET– if you are looking for an anti-​social place and quiet place to live this is for you– The people here are not from frats/​sororities and more like hermits lol. No parties ever. Truthfully, I think thats why none of the building have collapsed. One good party could make a building here collapse. Me myself just jumping up and down and working out in the apartment apparently caused the person who use to live below me feel small pieces of her ceiling fall on her head. And I’m not a big person (Im 5’4 and 150ish lbs?). OH AND EXCEPT ON THE WEEKEND MORNINGS WHEN KIDS ARE AT THE POOL AND WAKE YOU UP.
5: CABLE/​WATER/​INTERNET FREE-​but there is a catch (read below)
CONS:
1: WATER PROBLEMS-​They have to constantly turn off the water here. They have had really bad problems such as their main water pipe I think cracked or exploded… something like that. They do text you and let you know they are turning off the water but sometimes it can be last minute (look at my picture and the times the text were sent). They also turn it off a lot lately for renovations going on.
2: INTERNET– The internet goes out a good amount of times (like once a month or two– especially during exam weeks for some reason). I don’t know if comcast is to blame or them but this is a problem since when its broken, it can sometimes be for more than 12 hrs at a time (I remember once it was for a few days).
3: STRUCTURAL DAMAGE– This place really is really scary sometimes to live in. This place is so old so it has structural damage like cracks everywhere from the floors (see pics) to the ceilings (I’ll talk pics later of mine). They were renovating/​redoing the roof a while ago and not only was it loud early in the morning for many days but just them walking on the roof and fixing the roof caused many cracks in the ceiling (i don’t think thats normal!). They will probably try to fix the cracks with fillers to prevent them getting bigger and then cover it with paint but new cracks always form because the building is just so old (really it should be knocked down). Its no structurally safe. I think they know it to because they are trying to reinforce the building everywhere. All it would take for my building to come down would be one really good party and Im pretty sure my apartment would collapse lol.
4: NO COMPENSATION FOR INCONVENIENCES ON THEIR FAULT. Okay, everyone knows that college apartment complexes are rip offs from how they treat you, to the quality of the apartment for the price, etc. Its really nothing new. BUT, this place isn’t a college apartment complex. I see people who live here that don’t go to college. Ive seen a couple in their 50−60s living here for a while. But meh, what can I do right? Im stuck in a signed lease for a year.
5: They don’t steam clean your carpets once a year like a lot of apartment complexes do– not very sanitary considering this place is pet friendly.
#6: WASHER/​DRYER– The washing machines/​dryers tend to break down a lot and when they are working, they barely work– I usually have to dry my clothes twice. But the new apart.‘s have new ones so I guess no worries if you move in next yr.
7: CONSTRUCTION NOISE, INCONVIENCE, DAMAGE– I wish I could record and post a video of the constant noise I hear living here. Jackhammers, saws, nailing into the walls a few apartments down that shake my walls! And it starts from early in the morning, so not sleeping in here! lol. They start at like 9 am in the morning. Its really inconvenient and annoying especially since they don’t compensate at all. They just say sorry and call it a day (that wouldn’t fly in a normal apartment complex for adults).
9: Raising rent– I don’t care much about this because they I am moving out but they are raising rent by almost $ 200 from my rent price. Thats INSANE. There are much nicer and newer places for cheaper and more affordable places for college student budgets. Newer places have less problems also– older buildings are just like older cars, they break down a lot and require more money to fix it.
Overally, this is a good place to live if you like living alone, don’t like to socialize with your neighbors, in a quiet place and don’t mind paying a lot for a older renovated apartment that may have problems. I wish i could write more but there is a 5000 word
