Gold’s Gym

Great place to catch a workout while you’re in town or a permanent resident. The manager Joshua was a super nice guy and the gym was perfect for cardio and free weights. It had a great layout, the locker rooms were clean and it was easy to find. The crowd was friendly and I enjoyed my entire workout. Plus they have wifi which was a Huge plus. I’ve worked out at Gold’s Gyms all over the country as well as other gyms too, this one ranks up with the best!!!

stay away from this gym, they trick you to come in with a free workout pass but they’ll try and force you into paying $ 160 on the spot. No such thing as a trial period, they want your money. the managers are just plain creepy and have done one too many steroid cycles. All around its a small gym with only a sauna for the guys. be warned, if you go in once they will call you constantly, even if you asked to be taken off the call list they still harass you. spend your money on a better gym!

Always in some stage of disrepair, but it gets the job done. I’ve been at Gold’s for the past year and for the price and convenience, it works fine.
My main issue is the heat. The club is routinely warm, which is uncomfortable once you get working. Women’s locker room/​bathroom gets really warm. Could double as a sauna, an added perk I suppose ;)
Machines are older, but the selection is there. Air conditioning goes out, upstairs water fountain is missing the bar to push, weight floor equipment has seen better days.
This location is often an older, after-​work crowd in the evenings. Dance classes go on pretty regularly and have a good turn out.
Not a glamorous gym, but the staff is nice and the location is clean!

Good reasonably priced gym that has everything you need. It’s conveniently located and the equipment is pretty good.
Outside of stairmasters (very surprised they don’t have this here) and heavier dumbbells (which I was told they keep away since they don’t want a certain crowd at this location) this place is great!

When I was a member of this gym they told me they would give me a free month for each person I signed up. I recruited two of my friends to sign up, and then they told me they wouldn’t give me the free months until my last two months of membership.
They had also given me a free pass with my membership, and when I brought my wife with me with the free pass they wouldn’t let her in without signing up for a «trial membership» in which she had to give her bank account information. Needless to say we did not fall for that, but it was a hassle having to drive her home and then drive myself back for a workout, not to mention that she was dissappointed and it is a blatant lie to give someone a card that says «free pass» that isn’t actually a pass at all.
After over two years of loyal membership I was a member on a month-​to-​month basis, and I cancelled my membership because I was moving to another state. They said they had no record of the free months I had earned by signing my friends up, and would not give me my free months. After my termination date I went ahead and closed my bank account because by this time I had heard that they were known for charging your bank account for months after you cancelled. True to this rumor, they tried to charge my account and then sent a claim for a measly $ 30 to a collection agency! This is the thanks I get after two years of membership and even recruiting other people to join! These people should be put in jail for fraud.

I’m giving this 5-​stars, primarily because it offers us 100% of the resources we’d need to get fit and maintain fitness. There is ample equipment to go around, with upstairs isolating free weights and the step-​down large room to the center right offering abundant space for group fitness courses.
I started my membership in the summer of 2013 but only became serious about getting in shape in the summer of 2014.
There is a broad range of fitness plans available to members along with personal fitness trainers. I come three times weekly and meet my trainer once weekly.
All the trainers and staff are knowledgeable and courteous — but I can speak specifically only of my trainer (Tanner) who does a great job of motivating me to push myself further than I would normally do so at this point. Again, I’m sure the rest of the staff is solid — but I can vouch for Tanner in particular.
That said — I don’t fool myself, and recognize that (as with everything) the amount I put into it is commensurate to the output.

(Update) Bumped up an extra star–
After searching around for months toward a decent gym (from 24… to LA fitness… to Fitness 19… contemplated driving 20+ miles each way/​daily for Gold’s), I had to settle for a small privately owned gym for twice+ the price as this Gold’s. Yes, I live in california, where a gym IS everyone’s second home, but man do I miss the days of having this awesome facility at my disposal.
I even received an email from management thanking me for my membership after I complimented them upon my cancellation. Bravo

I visit Tallahassee every year for training. For the past five years I have been working out here when I am in town. The staff is always great and there’s a ton of equipment. The smoothie shop located inside the gym is really good and they added a supplement store since my last visit.

Woe be to the legitimate lifter, for Gold’s Gym has finally sunk to the depths of Planet Fitness. Once a bastion of strength and performance, now this Gold’s has plastered all over its walls the hallmark of the dying commercial gym. No powerlifting. No heavy lifting. No deadlifting. No Excellence. This is a sad day for the likes of a gym that once served as a home to many lifting greats, now this heritage has been pushed aside and cleared for more ellipticals and row after row of hip abductor machines. The logo is also disappearing. Where once the gleaming Atlas stood holding a massively loaded bar bending under the mass of so many plates, now it is gone, replaced with a new edifice which has none of the history, and all of the mediocrity. And I, belt in hand, was turned away for my desire to deadlift. Banished from a place that I have trained since I was 15, when my dad first spotted me benching just the bar. Let us all pause for a minute and lament the passing of such a great icon.

I’ve been a member here for almost 10 years. Which, based on my waist line, is pretty sad. Never the less, this Gold’s Gym is decent. The mens locker room is usually pretty clean. I’m not sure «it’s for a Unilocal review» would get me into the womens locker room without getting arrested.
There’s a ton of cardio equipment that all seem to be in good working order. There is also quite a bit of circuit training machines on the first floor. A majority of my time at the gym is spent on the second floor in the free weight room. There are multiple sets of free weights, which means I don’t have to wait for the pair I need. It is usually really busy in the afternoons around lunch time and right after work. My usual work out time is 2:00 — 3:30 PM, and it is usually pretty dead.
For the $ 15.00 I spend a month, I am pretty happy with this gym.

I was a member at Gold’s Gym Downtown for about a year. The staff were friendly, the equipment was mostly maintained, and the gym was pretty well equipped. Sure this place has its problems, relatively small, sometimes machines are down for service for a long while, and the place is pretty crowded from about 5−7pm, but I never had to wait more then 5 – 10 minutes for a machine.
You get what you pay for: a clean gym, with varied equipment, and a month-​to-​month membership.
I was expecting a HUGE headache when canceling my membership and personal training, I asked the desk staff what to do, they told me to fax in a specific form at least 30 days in advance and I would be good. So I did this and a month later my membership was canceled, but my PT was not. I called and was a bit frustrated, the general manager told me I was supposed to fill out a different form for the PT and I was told incorrectly etc. I am sure he thought I was lying, but he transferred me to the PT manager, and I was completely shocked that he reimbursed me for the month I was charged and completely canceled my PT, without any sort of argument.
For these reasons, I highly recommend Gold’s Gym downtown, cheap prices, month-​to-​month, and staff who aren’t trying to screw you out of money.
