I know in advance that I’m likely NEVER to find it in a pawnshop. After all, eBay and Craigslist(and B&H used) are my 2nd hand sources of choice. Nonetheless, when I have time to spare — I check out the pawnshops. It’s the same compulsion that regularly draws me to the flea market. A big annoyance is seeing a pawnshop item priced higher than the same NEW item available elsewhere. Today’s case-in-point: The time-proven Maxx Air high velocity floor fan. You COULD buy it new from for $ 129OR… you could always buy the used one available at Central Pawn for $ 149. I DO understand that there is likely little overlap between pawnshop shoppers and eBay/Craigslist buyers(although I know good pawnshops peddle their wares online as well) but I cringe nonetheless when I see first-hand the rationale for the famed phrase«There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute»
