Helpful and courteous staff who, like any pawn operators, are ready for a broad spectrum of customers — buyers and sellers alike.
I’m looking for vintage Canon glass — specifically an FD 50 mm 1.4. I know in advance that I’m likely NEVER to find it in a pawnshop. After all, eBay and Craigslist (and B&H used) are my 2^nd hand sources of choice. Nonetheless, when I have time to spare — I check out the pawnshops. It’s the same compulsion that regularly draws me to the flea market.
A big annoyance is seeing a pawnshop item priced higher than the same NEW item available elsewhere.
Today’s case-​in-​point: The time-​proven Maxx Air high velocity floor fan. You COULD buy it new from
for $ 129 OR… you could always buy the used one available at Central Pawn for $ 149.
I DO understand that there is likely little overlap between pawnshop shoppers and eBay/​Craigslist buyers (although I know good pawnshops peddle their wares online as well) but I cringe nonetheless when I see first-​hand the rationale for the famed phrase «There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute»
