History

Established in 1978.

Original built in 1932 as summer cottages. The lake front was built out in 1960 for the Winter Olympics held in Squaw Valley. Purchased in 1978 by the Mourelatos family, the lake front property was completely rebuilt from 1995 through 2001 making it one of the newest and best appointed resorts on the Lake. Visitors and locals alike enjoy our ice cream shop across the street that has been operating for over 25 years. Just across the street, the eighteen acres of private trails are accessible for hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-​country skiing.

The Mourelatos Family has owned the resort since 1978. Our parents immigrated from Greece in 1956 and operated the business for almost 30 years. I currently serve as the General Manager of the business. I was born and raised in San Francisco. Attended St. Agnes Grammar School, Sacred Heart High School, San Francisco State and the University of Texas. Worked for Accenture, a global IT and Management Consulting firm for 17 years before taking over responsibilities at the Lake.

The location was beautiful. Goregeous, plenty of in room amenities (it felt like we had our own little home away from home), perfect location, delicious breakfast, amazing customer service.
What I really enjoyed was the staff. I’m an insane critic of customer service. If there is a bad attitude present, I will never take my business there again. Even if it was free, i would still decline. Don’t worry, this place was the opposite. My husband and I loved their genuinely kind and caring assistance. They worked hard to make our stay as best as possible. I love how the staff here aren’t just local, but locals extremely involved in the community. The owner is so down to Earth. I saw him during the continental breakfast laughing at a table with the other guests. This place feels like a home away from home. It was awesome to support this family business versus a chain.
You can tell that they take pride in their business. We were so happy with our stay. As long as there is a room vacant when we are up in Tahoe, this is our go-​to place. Don’t pass this one up.

Booked this hotel. The confirmation email mentioned that should the check in office be closed when we arrive, check in information would be left for us at the door. Showed up to the hotel, no check in, no information. No place to sleep, it’s late and cold. They took my money and left me with nowhere to go. Thanks for nothing! Waiting for my refund.

I’ll start with the good stuff. The view of the lake is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are spacious and fit our family of four nicely with room to spare. Full kitchen is great (especially in the middle of a snowstorm when you can’t go out to eat.) Office has DVDs you can borrow at no cost. The private lake area is perfect for kids. We had a blast sledding and building mini snowmen. Kids went exploring finding crabs and other goodies to keep them busy.
Now the bad– we got there at around 11pm. Kids were sleeping in the car so i went in to set up the bed before bringing them up. Pulled back the covers, rearranged the pillows, and lo and behold there were a bunch of dead bugs under the pillow. Little tiny bugs. Didn’t realize they were bugs at first, I was more grossed out at the pieces of hair on the sheets. Hubby took a closer look and pointed out the dirty spots had legs and wings. No front office to call since they were closed. Nothing for us to do so we had to do our best to brush off the bugs and sleep on that gross bed. VERY disturbing to me. Sheets unchanged and bed bugs? Unacceptable.
The heater went out the first night (weather outside was 30 degrees). And proceeded to go out multiple times throughout the trip. Hubby had to keep restarting the pilot light. I’m talking 4 – 5 times a day, if not more.
Would I go back? It probably wouldn’t be my first choice because of the bugs in the bed. But maybe if we got a different room it would be okay. I’m just praying we didn’t take home any little critters.

What an awesome place. Very family friendly and very relaxing. Rooms are large and clean and all face the lake. Nice table and chairs in front of each room. Fire pits, hot tubs, volleyball court, chase lounges with umbrellas and all kinds of fun activities. Travis, in the office, was very helpful and went above and beyond. Ice cream shop across the street was awesome too.

My family and I have been coming to this hotel for four years now. We love coming here. Our kids look forward to our annual end of summer trip each year. Usually the experience is fantastic — great staff, nice rooms, beautiful private beach with free paddle boards, kayaks and a water trampoline. This year was completely different. To start the staff was not so friendly this year. Also the private beach and exclusive amenities that they boast about were not private AT ALL this time around. Our first venture out to the beach this trip we were given rubber bracelets and told that we must wear them at all times to sit on the private beach and use the hotel beach amenities. A perfect solution to the problem of the hotel being situated right next to a public beach with no real clear delineation where the public beach ends and the private hotel beach begins. During the weekdays there wasn’t really anyone on the public beach bleeding over into the private beach so there was no real need for the bracelets, but we wore them as we were told anyway. Fast forward to Saturday, today, a beautiful day on the lake. Except that every person on the private beach was not a guest of the hotel. Even more frustrating we weren’t able to use the beach amenities such as the trampoline or the corn hole because there were huge groups from the public beach just camped out there. We asked the one staffer that we saw on the beach for a total of 5 minutes all day if he could help clear the non guests out to which he responded that this was a public beach. Wait… what? Then why have I been wearing this silly bracelet all week?
The real reason I wanted to write this review is because I’m saddened to see that as the popularity of this establishment grows their attention to detail and maintaining that family owned and operated feel diminishes. I know that was part of the charm that brought us back for the past four years. I really hope that these are just growing pains and things change for the better in the near future. We love this place and it would be a bummer to have to find a new end of summer tradition.

Our family had a great stay at the Morelatos this summer during a softball tournament. The higher price was well worth the money. We appreciated all the extras! kayaks, paddle boards, spas, hot cocoa, snacks, movies, water trampoline, bbq pits, fire pits, volleyball court. All were used by the family.
The staff was friendly and attentive. We look forward to another visit.

Loved the hotel, went in the middle of winter so no fun in the sun and lake action– but the heater worked great, the rooms are modern and updated, the views of the lake are pristine, the breakfast was good, the hot tub was hot and worked great, the kitchen was nicely equipped. I also love how they built the reception office around a giant California Incense Cedar. My only knock was there weren’t blackout curtains on the windows– the door had a window which let too much light in and the same issue also for a window high on the ceiling. No paper towels in the kitchen also caught us off guard. All in all a great place, great massive king bed, great views with super friendly front desk!

A wonderful place to stay in any season! The rooms are great– so nice to have vaulted ceilings and a kitchen. But what you are really paying for is the incredible location. It is sitting on a private beach with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. PLUS GREAT for kids… they have so many amenities. Movies, games, sleds (winter time) and in the summer the bring out all the really cool toys (see other reviews for that info). The staff is awesome. Super helpful and really wants to make sure your stay is ideal.
We plan to go back FOR SURE this summer!

We spent two nights here in October 2014. We had a lovely room with King bed and kitchen on the first floor. Creaky floor boards (now plushly carpeted) and rustic plank walkways were charming, as the place has been redone. Frankly, I gasped when we saw the place and our room: really perfect! It’s on it’s own stretch of beach on the north shore, between Carnelian Bay and Kings Beach. We’ve stayed at lots of places in Tahoe over the last 10 years, and this is one of the loveliest.
The resort has kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and beach loungers on the beach. Two hot tubs are located in the parking lot, and BBQs available in front of the two buildings. I highly recommend this place, BUT– please — not when I’m going next: I want to make sure there’s a room available for me.

Great views from room 122 easy access to beach area tons of fun for kids. My Grandson had a great time with the use of canoes, paddle boats, kayaks. We stayed 10 – 11 and 10 – 12 .
The unit could use some updating, our wall heater knocked at night waking us wondering what the noise was, we finaly figured what it was. The wet bar gold sink had a real bad metalic smell every time we used it. Kind of hard to prep or consume food with the smell.
The bathroom sink had a faucet that waste too much water, when you pulled to turn it on stand back, cause your getting wet. And it was hard to adjust to a slow flow just for teeth brushing.
You stood in water as you showered cause the drain was so slow to drain .
Great price at off season but I would have complained more if it were peak season. Average nights stay was 150.00

The higher price is well worth it when all amenities are accounted for! 2 spas! Kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, volleyball, frisbee golf and more! Bbq your meals right on the beach, then enjoy a great fire. Free wifi, ping pong, lounge chairs and more! A great place to bring the family and enjoy at hoes finest attributes while never leaving your hotel! Will be back!

LOVED this place! Worth every penny. The view was amazing, the room was so clean and nice and spacious. Loved everything about this place! We had initially booked out stay at the Tahoe sands resort .2 miles down the street, and after photographing a wedding and exausted, we walked into a room SWARMING with flying bugs. It was disgusting. As many as we tried to kill, more kept flying out of the ceiling fan. It was too late to ask for a different room because the front desk was closed. It was absolutely horrible. THIS place came to our rescue! Even at that late hour, 11pm, they were happy to open a room to us and even make it more affordable! (Even though it was absolutely worth full price). I will DEFINETLY be returning here!

Just completed a 2-​night stay here. The view from the location as a whole is amazing. And I’m pretty sure that’s the top reason that the prices are high. I paid $ 135/​night for a room with 2 queen beds. I can’t imagine paying anything more than that and apparently I got a great deal.
One star was lost because the room definitely needed some updates. Some of the floorboards were falling off, there were mysterious substances on the windowsill, and both the kitchenette and bathroom sinks were TINY. The beds were very comfortable but the kitchenette was very lacking. I was shocked to discover there was no dishware or utensils. There were mugs, short glasses, tall glasses… even a cutting board (with no knife) but nothing to serve with or on. Very disappointing! We brought almost all of our food for the trip with us and usually when a hotel features a kitchenette, you can safely assume the basics will be provided.
The other star was lost because even though our room had a lake view, as they claim all of them do, ours was the only window in the room and also faced the parking lot and walkway so we could not enjoy the view without everyone on the property being able to see us in our room. There is also a small «window» at the top part of the door which looks nice, but at night, the porch light (which you cannot control) stays on and shines directly through that window straight into your eyes as you sleep. We literally had to hang a blanket over the door at night, it was super bright!
Another thing that’s probably worth half a star is that they offer tea and coffee pretty much round the clock but each time I went to serve myself some, there was either no cups, no lids, no tea, nothing to stir with, etc. It was like the SUPER bare minimum. No breakfast at all (even though others mentioned breakfast in their reviews), not even fruit or something affordable and easy.
I imagine if you go during the high season, everything runs smoothly. I like to travel in the off season and I expect that everything would be the same, but I see that’s not the case. They were doing a lot of upkeep, redecorating, unpacking, remodeling type stuff… getting ready for the winter I assume.
3 stars for location and friendly staff.

Stayed for a week with extended family in early August. Overall a great experience. Private beach is wonderful with great extras. Paddleboards, sit-​upon kayaks, lounge chairs with umbrellas, fire pits, hammocks and BBQ grills.
We had three rooms and each room was different with different amenities. Two rooms reserved were king beds with a kitchen. One had a very nice kitchen but a small sleeping area and carpeted floors and really no sitting area. The other had a huge sleeping, sitting area with hard wood floors and a vaulted ceiling but the kitchen left a lot to be desired. Additionally the kitchens were each stocked with different items and be aware there wasn’t a corkscrew to be found!
The beds in one of the rooms was miserable, but everyone in the other rooms bragged about how great the beds were in their rooms!
The public wifi was down for most of the time we were there. I would have been fine with that except every time we would check on the status it was «it will be available in one hour». Don’t lie, just say you don’t know. Customer service is just about being honest with your customers as far as I’m concerned.

Just attended a wedding here and was pleased enough with the accommodations. Great beach right outside of your room, two hot tubs, and a great view of the lake. Only complaint is the mattress (king) was so firm it essentially was like sleeping on a slab of granite. I’m saying this as a person who normally prefers a firm mattress too. Outside of that though, it was a decent place to stay and I’d probably recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Location is perfect newly remodeled rooms are top notch. I am normally afraid of the carpets in hotels these rooms have hardwood floors. Service and Staff were very friendly and helpful they definitely made us feel at home, thank you Alex and Mary.

Most beautiful view of the lake and scenery in North Lake Tahoe. You get the lakeshore beach area, and a wide view of of the whole lake. Came during the winter season with snow everywhere.
Price: Pretty expensive. Our room ranged from $ 350+ with peak season to be around $ 450 :X Not sure if its worth that much.
Type: Not modern type but very homey.
Room 112 or the right side best lake view kings bed room was awesome! Probably best view.
Breakfast: AWeekends but its not a continental breakfast. You get bread and muffins to toast, jam, cuties, oranges and 3 selections of cereal, OJ, coffee and hot water in conference room by front desk.
Transportation:
To Ski/​Snowboard is at 8:12AM, leaving that place around 4P
Shuttle/​Bus is right in front of the resort and ends at 10P
Its across from Spindleshanks restaurant, well-​known around area. Mourelatos Resort is in between Kings Beach and Tahoe Vista Area. Crystal Bay Casino is the closest best casino close by 3miles, with another 2 casinos across the street.

Hot Tub outside in community area, awkward to try to just go to and back to your room.
