Americas Best Value Inn Lake Tahoe Tahoe City

K so I didn’t have high expectations since the name is ‘Americas Best Value Inn’. I’ve never stayed at an Inn before and I only stayed here because I booked last minute and all the condos/​lodges at Squaw Valley were booked or expensive over $ 350 for spring break. We’ve come to Tahoe before and skied the other mountains so really wanted to visit Squaw this time. But this place was still $ 160 including tax so I have to compare it to other hotels for this price and it was nowhere close. The external really looks old and the inside isn’t any better. Everything is so antiquated from the old carpets to the old wallpaper to the old faucet and shower handles. I normally don’t mind walking in the room barefoot but I felt the need to wear my sandals since the carpets were so old and hence most likely dirty even though they looked somewhat clean. The bathroom shower is very small so I don’t know how bigger people comfortably take a shower in there. The only reason I didn’t give a 1 star was because it is walking distance to the lake and the city stores so location is great. It also had a really comfy bed so I had a good nights sleep but my daughter couldn’t help but hear the next door neighbors since the walls are paper thin. So my daughter unfortunately didn’t get a good nights sleep. The continental breakfast is really a joke but hey you can’t beat free. I admittedly didn’t try it since I heard it was just packaged danishes and coffee and watered down juice. The cable tv and wifi were good. Front desk was nice. All in all for $ 160 definitely not worth it compared to other hotels.

Breakfast was a joke. Entemanns pastry still in plastic wrap, weak coffee with powdered creamer, fruit juices from a machine and no fruit (even though they claimed to have «Fresh Fruit». People were outside screaming until after midnight. Kids were running up and down outside yelling. Walls were paper thin and you could hear what people were saying the next room over. The floors squeaked everywhere, so you could hear every footstep upstairs. Worst place we have stayed at in 20 years. We will never return. I would rather spend more and be able to sleep.

It’s an older hotel, but the rooms were very clean and the beds were comfy. The staff was very friendly and you can’t beat the price or the location. Right across the street from Lake Tahoe and you can walk to restaurants and stores. Right behind the hotel there is a snow hill that the kids can slide down and play in the snow. That costs 10 per person.

This is our favorite hotel to stay at when we come to Tahoe for several reasons. It’s a great location less than 15 minutes from Squaw Valley. You can’t beat the value for less than a hundred dollars a night. The beds are new and super comfortable which is a big plus for a low-​cost hotel. If you get the rooms towards the back, they have a view of the golf course which looks like a winter wonderland during the winter months. Dave sports across the way will rent cross country skis for 15 bucks a person, and you can cross country all over the golf course and ski back to your hotel room. Also has a hot tub with great views of the lake (lake is right across the street with awesome walking trails and views) then you have Rosies café for a great morning breakfast and plenty of local ski shops etc. at walking distance. The free Internet connection is slow, but who comes here to be on your devices all day? This location supplies a perfect getaway location at a very reasonable price and also was quite clean and well-​kept. Last thing I’ll mention is at seven in the morning free coffee and danishes and fruit.

I work in the Tahoe area on a semi-​regualr basis and was in town for NYE and stayed here for an evening. I felt as if I had traveled back in time to grandmas via the hot tub time machine. Blue petticoat wallpaper and carpet, along with white formica were abound in my room. No complaints however. Room was clean, beds were SUPER comfortable, free wifi and your typical ‘continental’ style breakfast that consisted off an assortment of sweet rolls, juice, coffee and fruit. Front desk folks were nice, they also give you some coupons at check in to use at local restaurants… One tip: If booking during the winter months, Id call ahead and ask them to turn the heat on in your room. mine was quite cold upon arrival. No big deal for me, but if you were checking in for the night, might take a bit to warm up.

We stayed at this hotel for the night on our way back from Burning Man. I would say it’s a decent hotel with a parking lot, continental breakfast and pool. The biggest cons of this hotel are HOT TUB (oh yeah, it was priceless after being in a desert for a week) and the view over the lake. It’s very close to the beach, which is awesome for a walk.

This was honestly the worst experience. My fiancé booked this hotel because it had four stars on Unilocal and was affordable. We arrived at our room and were stunned to see what poor shape this hotel is in not only had it never been redone inside but the wallpaper is coming apart, the room smells very strange, the sheets fell off the bed every single night, the ac never worked (keep in mind it was up to 95 outside while we stayed at the hotel aka motel!) we informed the stuff each time that the ac did not work! They sent someone down to «fix it» twice and each time it stopped working after 20 minutes!
When we left we informed the hotel we would like some kind of compensation for our stay! That we were less then dissatisfied. The manager told us she would have no problem doing that but that we had to go thru Price Line (who we had gotten the room from). When my fiancé called today to see about the compensation they said they wouldn’t honor it! He then called the owner and the owner basically called us liars told him the ac works just fine… And that he will not be giving us a refund! This is the worst establishment I have ever been to! This place needs to be shut down! I hope this post stops this terrible motel from getting business!

Air conditioner was broken both nights even after someone came into «repair» it. Whole room was disgusting! Just look at the pictures. For gods sake clean and update the place a bit!

The rudest front desk I’ve ever encountered. After 4 hours of driving you think they would be more sympathetic to letting you in an hour early so you can get ready for a wedding. She acted like us even staying at the inn is a huge inconvenience. She needs to adjust her attitude. Beware booking here. You will have to put up with lots of attitude.

Perfect budget hotel ~ clean, comfy and inexpensive. The rooftop jacuzzi doesn’t hurt either. Will definitely be back!

My husband & I stayed here for one night this past weekend and we were very pleased with the experience. This location is excellent and the price is unbeatable. The room was clean and comfortable although pack your own pillow. The provided pillows are super bulky and gave me a neck cramp although they did have 6 in the room which was nice. We enjoyed the hot tub and the discounts they offer at a few nearby restaurants. The breakfast is slim but the bananas were perfectly ripe. Will stay here again for sure. Great value & excellent location.

We’ve stayed at this motel twice and were very pleased both times. Considering the location, it’s *very* affordable. Except for the TV, everything in the room looks like it’s at least 20 years old. That being said, the room and bathroom were very clean. Props to housekeeping!
The pros are the cost, location, and lots of nearby eateries. There’s a hot tub, but we never got in it. The people working the front desk are consistently friendly as well. Despite looking like a time warp from the 90’s, there’s also free WiFi. There’s also a free «breakfast» consisting of coffee, fruit, and prepackaged pastries.
The cons are that the room/​bathroom are somewhat cramped and the only appliances are the TV and a hair dryer. No microwave, no mini fridge.
Bottom line: if we’re up in North Lake Tahoe again, we’ll be checking in again.

Pros: The area was right in the middle of everything. The room was very clean. The television was a mid-​sized flatscreen. There is a backdoor that has a shared balcony of sorts, with a view of the golf course. The room had a wonderful coffee maker with tea also available. Free Wi-​Fi with password. The staff was friendly and helpful. The price was the lowest in Tahoe City ($ 50/​night with Priceline). Pillows galore on the bed!
Cons: The room is small. The décor was very loud (floral wallpaper, bed covers, pink chairs).
Overall, a great deal! I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Good value for money considering the spot. The room are clean. There is a pool and a spa (No bubbles) and the breakfast is included. It’s not really a breakfast tho, but if you are hungry it will be OK!

Stayed here for the second time.
Will probably stay again when I return to Tahoe City.

Awesome place to stay at North Lake Tahoe. I was here for a wedding and my friends got a block of rooms. Check in is at 2 pm, but I was able to check in early around noon. Also I got a bunch of discounts for nearby restaurants and the code for the free wifi. If you have a car, make sure to get a free parking permit. The room was perfect for me – clean and a comfy king sized bed with a microwave and fridge. A huge plus if you want to get some groceries or for your leftovers. They also have complimentary continental breakfast — got myself a banana and danish. Everything is walking distance from here — Commons Beach, grocery stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. My only issue with this place is not enough plugs. I had to charge my phone and computer in the bathroom.

This was a great place to stay for an inexpensive trip to North Lake. It’s a little retro, but the rooms and hot tub were all clean. Easy parking, and just a short drive to Squaw. It’s also walking distance to many restaurants as well as right across from the lake. I won’t stay anywhere else on a budget.

Sure, it’d be better to stay somewhere fancier and closer to the slopes. But then you wouldn’t be spending $ 90/​night, would you? (Oh and you might get a better price on that website where you name your own price, shhhhhh.)
America’s Best Value Inn in Tahoe City was a great place to spend three days as a solo skier. Or a pair of ski buddies, or a couple who don’t need to impress each other. (That’s the best kind of couple by the way.)
Here, I’ll start by telling you what the room does NOT have so you can quit yer bitching:
It doesn’t have complimentary lotions or hair conditioner.
It doesn’t have a microwave.
It doesn’t have an iron or an ironing bo… oh wait, yes it does, my bad.
It doesn’t have a fridge.
It doesn’t have a pool.
It doesn’t have a gym.
SURPRISE…you can have a good time here anyway. First of all, free wifi, which is really all you need in life to survive. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and not smelly. (Not smelly scores big for me.) The staff is super nice and eager to help make your stay a comfortable one. Pick up extra towels in the lobby and use the hot tub with a view of the sunset over the lake. (Yes, you heard me.) If you show up for their complimentary breakfast, you can get a pastry, coffee, or fresh apples and bananas. (Do you KNOW how much they’re charging for bananas at the ski lodge nowadays?) Stuart at the desk offered me a bunch of discount cards good at local restaurants within walking distance. And though I didn’t take advantage of this, Tahoe City is a major Tahoe Area Rapid Transit (TART) hub… translation: you can take the bus to Northstar, Squaw, Alpine, and a bunch of others I’m sure.
Let me know if you can beat this price and quality in a Tahoe hotel… for now I’m sticking with this one.

— Outdoor hot tub on the second floor at the front of the building — looking over the lake.
— Close drive to Squaw/​Alpine and just a little farther to NorthStar (opposite direction)
— Walking distance to many restaurants and bars (I recommend Fat Cat)
— Free wifi
— Great front desk staff (Stuart is great, they opened breakfast early at 6:30 for us)
:Cons:
— The room smells like cheap cleaning supplies
— No mini fridge
— CRT TV
:Breakfast:
Oranges, bananas, coffee, tea and individually wrapped pastries. Not much — but it was free with the room.
:Overall:
This place is what it advertises — a relatively cheap hotel in a ski town. Don’t expect anything more. We got our rooms for $ 90 a night (Fri-​Sun) via name your own price on
. I would stay here again to save money and for the great service. But not if I was on a date.
