Steel Creek Tacoma

Steel Creek is amazing. I don’t know what gave me the urge to go here for the first time, I had always heard about it but was somewhat intimidated I guess? It being a «club» and having cover after 9 kind of deterred me I suppose. I really don’t know why I waited so long to visit.
I have a friend who lives in Tacoma and decided to ask him to try line dancing lessons with me. He agreed but as it got closer to actually going I got really nervous and anxious again! He convinced me to go and I had THE BEST time.
The dance lessons are so fun. They are slow and easy, they ease you into the dance very well and they’re only an hour so you don’t lose interest or feel like it’s dragging on. It’s so fun to learn the dances and participate later in the night. Lessons are only $ 5 and it includes a free drink as well as the lesson!
The atmosphere is great. The bar and restaurant are very clean, you can tell the staff takes pride in their place and makes sure the bar tops, behind the bar, the floors, bathrooms and everywhere else is very clean. It’s very country, which means I love it. The décor is great, its just enough country without being too much or «in your face».
They do drink specials every 30 minutes and a patron gets to spin a wheel to see what the next special will be, some specials include $ 1 rolling rocks/​PBRs, $ 3 fire ball, $ 4 Bacardi and coke, etc. So actual specials that people will enjoy, not just trying to get rid of things no one orders.
The food here is GREAT. Everything I’ve tried from the nachos, to the pulled pork sandwich, to the mac and cheese. The fries are great, the food comes out quick and it’s delicious. Everyone I’ve ever visited with has always said the food is really great as well. HOWEVER, I have since gone vegetarian and there is VERY little on the menu that can cater to that kind of diet so just be aware of that.
All in all, this is an amazing and really fun place. We come every week now :)

We had a large group that was coming in and were told there was. «Private room» available. I like a silly person didn’t go look first as we were in a hurry, so we ended up in a part of the restaurant that certainly wasn’t private. In addition they don’t give a discount on food or drinks when you pay the room fee. Both times I’ve been here this place is literally empty during dinner hours. The food is good so I’m not sure why but you really don’t need reservations and certainly besides just giving them a heads up we were coming we also didn’t need to pay the room fee. Now to Their benefit we did get free bull riding bracelets but that was at 9:30 and most of our 6pm crowd was done!
Go eat, enjoy but just be smarter the. Us and don’t waste the $ on the room fee!
Btw the response from the manager Linda (whom I’ve never spoken to) who has responded has actually encouraged me to downgrade my review. The 50% off was not worth the price we paid for the room no $$ was necessary and the Harmon was willing to take us for FREE! In addition we were told the bull riding was available at 9pm. They assumed we were all out of towners as I was at a conference nearby. However, I’m actually local and know for a fact that they could have done better. They made a killing off of our table in a Friday night at 6pm when no one else was there eating and simply could have done better! I will actively discourage patronizing after Linda’s response and lack of accountability for their actions. We were not told it was «semi private» as she claims. Clearly I acknowledged I didn’t look at the «room» I said that in my first write up… uh I didn’t have that luxury. For future reference a room is defined as «a part or division of a building enclosed by walls, floor, and ceiling.»

Love coming here for food, drinks, dancing, and lessons. The bartenders are very nice, and helpful. The staff are professional. There are two dance floors, choose accordingly, if you don’t know the staff/​other dancers will let you know. They offere full service restaurant till 8 (I think) then appetizers… they have happy hour daily, its later on thenweekends (adter 1030).

First time here and I will be back! The food was awesome. Steak salad was so good. Steak was done to perfection. Drinks are good. I will return. just have to bring my 10 gallon hat and my truck!

We come here for the country concerts, so far LoCash and a thousand horses. Great venue for an intimate concert with a more rustic feel than you normally find in Tacoma. Waitresses have always been very attentive despite the large crowds that the concert draws. Food is good and the many has a much larger variety than just typical bar food. Will definitely continue to come here for concerts.

Bland boring salad and the whiskey chicken had chicken and while it was cooked well I had to scrape off that awful gravy and could not bear to eat the mashed potatoes.
They do have a great whiskey selection so come drink and listen to music but don’t expect much of the food.

I was hesitant to go here because of a few reviews I saw regarding how it’s not as good.
But I saw an awesome deal too at groupon and decided, why should I be affected what other people say when everyone has different opinions.
So I brought my husband to give it a try to see the truth and I’m glad I did.
To start off, we came at 7pm making a reservation ahead of time just incase it maybe busy. It wasn’t busy at all and as stated on previous reviews there were few people line dancing which i found very entertaining. It brought smile to my night seeing kids dance too.
Going to the dinner part, my husband ordered this beer called men’s room red that was featured back then on some radio show.
I appreciated their complimentary bread.
He loved the beer and said it was good.
We moved forward to entrees and skipped appetizer. I was amazed how the food didn’t take as long as how normal restaurants are and came out just at the right time. Not too fast making you think it was already made beforehand or not too long either that makes you starve, it was perfect.
He ordered lobster Mac and cheese and it was really good too, is it the best? Probably not, red lobster is his favorite place still but he overall liked that dish too. I ordered the flat iron steak medium well, it came out perfect to me. I am kinda picky on not having it too rear or too dry but this one was just right. The side of rice pilaf was really flavorful too and I ate all of that way too fast.
Service was exceptional from Ashley she made us feel welcomed and gave all different suggestions. She obviously knows all the dishes even the alcohol and never had a quiet or uhm moment.
I commend her for being on top of her job knowing every question a customer can possibly ask. Her being my server added a good experience to my night

3^rd time here. They always have a great deal on groupon! Great place to hang out. Upbeat atmosphere. Some days they have live dancing which is pretty cool even though I’m not into country dancing or music. It’s nice to have a live show in front of you during dinner. :) the food is great. I’ve tried many burgers and their burger is a bit bland. Sometimes it gets a little busy and takes a little while for the food to arrive. Slow days like a Wednesday the service was great, food came out fast and hot. Located in DT Tacoma. Parking can get packed but it’s nice to walk a bit. Give this place a try!

Apparently one of those two nights are for Learning to Line dance… Yup thats right, this is a country bar. I personally am not a country fan, but I AM a whiskey fan. So I was going to check out this place just the same.
The place is large: and well kept. Decorated nice. I can say nothing for the food. As I mentioned I only got a few drinks while killing time before heading back to my hotel.
The bartender was a cute female. She was running around like a mad woman. had her own section, had the bar tops to look after and also had drinks rolling in from the 3\4 other servers throughout the place. Even with all that non-​sense going on, she still took time and answered some questions. (And was able to mask the water level rising, and she was falling behind on her bar side duties)
The place works together well, at one point the cook came out for water, and saw the bartender all over the place. He (bigger black guy) stopped, loaded up her dishwasher full of cups and took her bus bin in the back for her.
…I am making you read this because when I was a waiter back in the day, I felt like no one ever acknowledged this when I did it.
The same bartender that was keeping up with almost 15 people and a row full of booths: also was dealing with a complaining ass waitress. Complainer was really short and longer thin brown hair. Bar Keep was having to stop and listen to her complain about how busy she was… meanwhile the keep was making her drink at the same time.
As I mentioned: I was a waiter back in the day. If you have time to complain… your not really in «the weeds»… You only have piss poor time management skills.
I hope the owner sees this and commends everyone for well done team work (even the female manager– who stepped behind the bar for a second).
But cut loose the negative Nancy in your group. If I was just ease dropping and noticed all this, imagine the service she was giving her customers…

Came with a group on a Thurs night, we were looking for food, but this was probably not a great decision based upon flavors and what you get for the cash. They have a great whiskey selection, and at reasonable bar prices, but the menu appeared to promise more than we were served.
The ribeye steak could have used significantly more seasoning and maybe a sear, and was likely only a Choice cut of meat. Which for $ 23 should have been a bit better. To their credit the broccoli was well-​prepared, but the rice was only «meh» and served in a crock that made eating it a pain.
The Caesar Salad with Salmon was sad looking… And a bit disappointing to my friend who ordered it.
The waitress was very sweet and great at her job, so A+ on service. Our drinks and waters stayed topped off, and there were no complaints on her attention to detail.
What was a bit annoying (and avoidable had we researched) was the heavy sell from hostesses on some line-​dancing lessons. Honestly, several of us have spent some time in a country bar, and some even line-​dance. What wasn’t a great dinner and drinks soundtrack was the monotone PSYOPS style choreography narration from the instructors at high volume. A couple guys eventually joined in because it made it more bearable to participate… But not exactly relaxing dinner time entertainment for sure.
Honestly it feels like this place has a bit of an identity crisis, and has great potential as a bar, and some okay points as a restaurant… But it wasn’t a high point for my Tacoma experience.

I don’t even like country music, but I had a blast here. I don’t know how to line dance, and I don’t know how to two-​step. Well, I did it anyway. Such fun! Most of the men there will twirl you around the dance floor without you having to worry much about what to do. Plus, there’s a «no rules» dance floor where beginners can feel totally comfy practicing steps. The crowd is so friendly– there were a few very talented women who even taught me the line dances. Reasonable drink prices, but don’t even bother with a drink because you can’t have it on the dance floor. You’ll want to be on the dance floor.

It pains me to give a good review because I hate country and country related things so much. But it would be wrong for me to put Steel Creek down because they are just so lively.
If you are looking for a fun and unique experience in Tacoma, come to Steel Creek. My friends and I always end up here because the bar is a good mix of crowd without being crowded.

After numerous visits, I’ve found the bartenders to be hilarious and abnormally friendly (in a good way). Come on the right night and you can get a dance lesson in either 2 step or line dancing. They even have a mechanical bull on weekends if you want to try and impress your date with your wrangling skills.
Don’t be fooled by the fact they are a bar, they are also a restaurant by day and let me tell you, lobster mac and cheese to die for!
So don’t knock ‘em till you try ‘em…and don’t forget your cowboy hat!

Galangga Thai was full so crossed the street to this place and glad we did. Service friendly and attentive today. Food tasted fresh. Atmosphere 7 – 8 was laid back and not too loud. Hope they keep it up. recomebd their steak nachos

I am not a fan of country music but I enjoyed my time at this place
The crowd was a good mix and the layout made it easy to move around
The drinks were on special, every hour something different.
They have a patio too which was nice for some fresh air
Too bad their kitchen closed early by the time we arrived, I was starving

Our office came by last week for dinner and drinks after work… For how busy it was, the service was pretty good. It was a Thursday night and it looked like a very popular spot for young college kids –some maybe a little too young, I might add… But anyway, I ordered nachos to start as an appetizer, which was a huge order! They were very good, but could feed our entire table. Then I ordered the pot roast, which was extremely salty but the mash that came with it was amazing. The veggies were just steamed and nothing special. I also ordered a side of onion rings, which were fairly good, and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Which was more along the lines of a finger sandwich to be honest, because it was TINY. And there was more slaw than pork, I might add, which was truly disappointing.
I will however add that they serve an Apple Pie Moonshine which I was told is amazing by a couple of co-​workers, but was unable to get a picture. They have a fairly decent selection of beer and offer pitchers.
I will also tell you that the parking provided in the back is very limited. They have a lot of spaces, but the spaces are all super narrow and damn near impossible to maneuver out of when packed… And good luck with the street parking!

Ha ha! I never been in a country /​western bar and grill-​dance club. This one is my first time. My wife got a groupon special for this place which was only open mon-​Friday (I’m assuming that it’s a full bar/​club on weekends) .
We came here not knowing what to expect, parking was confusing, we paid a full 2 hours on the parking meter having to find out it was free on weekends (we are total tourist). We got seated my wife and I tried their flat iron steak. It was tasty. The way they cook it in the south. We notice that the culture was different. See some guys wearing cowboy hats and I notice two huge dance floor, one in the middle and one up near we sat. There was an electric bucking horse saddle (I don’t know exactly how to say it).
We got here Around 730−8pm, while we were enjoying our dinner, one of the security/​bouncers ask us if we want to stick around and enjoy the club. They have open at 9pm and the DJ will be on at that time … That means people will be dancing. Well it was different. I did enjoy watching people do the line dancing. All in all we host/​hostesses — waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. It was a pretty fun night and a pretty fun evening here.

Dinner turned line dancing!
First time visitors of the State of Washington and dined here in the downtown area with my hubby. Arrived around 8:15p and was greeted by two friendly hostesses. Although reservation was recommended we were seated immediately. Noticed that the theme here would be country western by the staff’s clothing gears. Our server came and offered drinks but we knew what we wanted already — Steak! so we also placed our order. While waiting for our meals we were given fresh bread but our steak orders didn’t come until 30 mins later. Well, this gave me a chance to observe around the atmosphere.
Looks like we walked in to a Pre-​Independence Day party. The place was quite big with a huge full bar in the center. We were seated where a step or two above us to my left is a dance floor and where there was a private party going on. There is also another bigger dance floor right next to the bar. There was a spinning wheel, not sure when this was used or what it was used for. There were plenty of flat screen TV’s all around and within my view the Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s were playing. About 8:50p we were served our dinner…
Hubby and I each had the Flat Iron steaks. Came with fresh veggies and a side of potatoes. It was tasty and delicious especially with the grilled mushrooms. Not even midway into our dinner one of the staff members asked us if we were staying past 9:00 for the nightclub portion of the evening. My hubby and I looked at each other and said «sure!» (but we weren’t really sure because we’ve never, ever, been to a country nightclub nor participated in one). We were asked for our ID’s and were given yellow bracelet tags. We thought we’d observe, we were also conscious of our parking meter expiring at 9:32p. Sure enough as soon as that clock struck 9:00p a female DJ got on the microphone, country music played with the volume turned up and people started hitting the dance floor. Looked like everyone was having a great time. We would’ve loved to stay but being new visitors to WA we still wanted to visit other places so we left after our dinner. Great food, great dining experience!

The steak in their nachos were bland and the pieces were really tiny like scrap pieces. The meat in their wild west burger was really big but also kinda bland, you really needed the whiskey sauce to get through it.
Atmosphere is usually really good and bull riding is pretty fun

We went tonight for a Military function. We had a pre-​set menu it was $ 20 each for: a 6 oz piece of «whisky“chicken, mashed potatoes, garden salad, a yellow squash/​zucchini, and a roll. A soft drink was included and it was served buffet style. I think if we had gone to sit and eat a typical chicken dinner at most places it would have been maybe $ 12 for that plate. I do not really have any complaints except the chicken was very difficult to cut with the butter knife provided and the lemonade I was drinking was maybe the worst tasting lemonade I have ever had in my life. it had a faint bleach taste to it. I still say that EVEN if you added a 15% tip to that chicken meal it still should have been under $ 20 per person.
I think I would like to go back sometime to see what else they offer to eat and chose my own meal from the menu. The staff was nice enough and it was very clean in there.

We found this place while walking by during the Tacoma First Night (NYE street fest). Took a peek at the menu online and decide to give it a go!
I had the lobster Mac and cheese — I was hesitant at first because most places that say something comes with lobster usually requires a microscope to find said lobster… I was pleasantly surprised at not only the amount of the lobster but also the quality — yum!
The Mr. had the Wild West burger and it was average at best.
The whiskey selection is great and we liked the Rye we tried!
They also have a large dance floor which appears to be for line dancing (this is a cowboy establishment for sure) but it wasn’t going on while we were here.
Will come back to try a few more items (they have shrimp stuffed salmon… whaaaaat!)
