Shilo Inn & Suites Hotel Tacoma

The Shilo Inn in Tacoma its «ok» and when say ok I’m stretching it. The hotel staff are polite except for the manager. She is abrasive and her deportment is rude when dealing with customers. The only reason I stayed in the hotel is because employer booked this hotel for me. I have recommend to my employer not use this hotel again not just based on my experiences but also those of my fellow employees. The internet does not work. The Internet consistently kicks people off of network and when it is connected it is very slow. The street the hotel is located on Hosmer St has «working girls» walking up down the street at night. If you do stay at this hotel ensure your expectations are low so will not be disappointed.

I will not be staying at his hotel for a show or any reason again! The staff was very rude, and they are supposed to have a 24 hr pool (The reason we stayed there) And they kicked us out and shut it down early. With us not being loud at all! We had gone to Life in Color this last weekend and I am so embarrassed I brought my girlfriends there! I didn’t hear anyone being loud and So many people got kicked out! They over charge for the shit rooms they have. The management is very disrespectful. I had returned my room keys, realized I forgot my meds in my room, asked for the room key back and was YELLED at by the front desk. I was yelled at many times by her, with me just asking to go look in two different rooms. I DON’T recommend staying there if your going to be going to a show in Tacoma. OR for any reason! They also DON’T call you if you happen to leave something in your room, and they are supposed to do that, My charger was left. And I got no call about it, I even left my number!!! If you are going to stay anywhere, I recommend Best Western by the Tacoma DOME!

I stayed here Saturday night on the 30^th of April, 2016. The moment my family and I arrived, we were greeted by the front desk (Cory) attentively and kindly. The room was very nice and spacious with a convenient delivery service menu for local eats. Beds were comfy and extra vanity area outside of the bathroom was nice. The fridge was much larger than any I’ve seen before at an Inn or Hotel. It had a good size freezer and the fridge along with the microwave were set up in the room efficiently. The pool was always stocked with towels and there was always a staff member near by. I want to acknowledge Cory Hart! This man must have pulled a double because he was there all day and all night. He was always attentive and went above and beyond. He asked my nephew if he had fun in the pool when we saw him in the hallway and even though I had two requests in a row (he had to come back to our room two different times) for extra towels, he still asked if I needed anything. I needed a band-​aid and he was happy to get that for me. THAT is what I call excellent service! The ladies that worked the breakfast shift were also very kind and attentive. The waffle mix was great. The breakfast selection was great. I would suggest that they offer FRUIT though. They had coffee, juices, cereal, waffles, yogurt, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and burritos. I would suggest an upgrade to the elevator. Other than that it was a great stay. The building itself may be 4 stars, but the service (mainly our experience with Cory and breakfast staff) was definitely 5 stars!

Slept like a baby…
We’ve been on the road for a week now. It’s tough finding a hotel that is pet friendly and has the amenities that we look for. This hotel hit the nail on the head!
Our room was a bit dated but we expect that since it’s a pet room.
Dry and wet sauna, hot tub, pool, and weight room. It was clean and everything was in working order.
Free breakfast! I Would like to see sausage, eggs, and hasbrowns. We made due with hot waffles, microwave breakfast sandwiches, and cereal.
We had a great stay!

The staff was very accommodating of our unique conditions, my boyfriend and I were working over-​night and asked for a check-​in time of 9am and check out of 5pm on the same day.
We paid the nightly rate of $ 125 (including tax), which seems on par for the area but still pricey for this particular hotel.
The hotel itself is very dated: with popcorn ceilings in the bedrooms, old bathrooms, well worn hallways, etc. The bedroom smelled a little musty but an open window cleared it up quickly. The beds are are the firm side but not terrible.
We didn’t get a chance to visit the pool but it looked to be in good condition.
Our room was facing away from I-​5 and was quiet.
A good place to crash in a pinch but nothing special.

Worked out of this hotel for a film production job. Sandra was extremely accommodating and friendly, she seemed genuinely happy and interested in helping our crew with our 3 billion requests.

I have stayed here a couple of times for family reunions and the hotel is able to easily accommodate large groups. The pool area is clean and open 24 hrs. The beds are comfy. The front desk help is wonderfully friendly, too. But, overall, the hotel is sadly lacking in too many ways to recommend it.
This last visit, the hotel was so muggy that I borrowed a local relative’s box fan to take to my room. The trip up the elevator with it led to a comment from another hotel guest about how smart we were to bring that along since it was so hot in the hotel. The fan kept the air moving in the room which made it better but even on the high setting, the highway sounds were intrusive.
When housekeeping came along the next day, they removed the used/​open soaps and used towels but failed to actually replace them. So we had no soaps and only one clean, dry bath towel. Luckily there was an unattended cart in the hallway so I was able to get some towels and since I didn’t see bar soap on the cart, I took two shampoos to use as liquid soap. Using the shampoo for its intended purpose led to a challenge for me since there was barely enough water pressure to rinse suds out of my hair in the shower.
Didn’t eat the free breakfast (on any stay at this hotel) since it is limited in food choice and the dining area cannot sit but a tiny number of people at a time.
I just cannot recommend this hotel and I’m hoping after this last stay that the family event planner (my penny-​wise husband) will seek out a new location for our out of town visitors and ourselves to stay.

This isn’t actually a three-​star review — it’s either a two star or a four star depending on which direction your room faces. Two-​star if it’s on the freeway side, four if it’s on the other. I had a pair of adjoining rooms on the freeway side of the third floor.
Good: the staff is friendly and helpful, the pool and spa are quite nice, the ‘free breakfast’ is what I’d expect. Although this is an older hotel, the rooms I had were updated and serviceable. Flat screen TV, small refrigerator, microwave, the usual. Beds were OK, and the room smelled fresh.
Bad: the hotel is VERY close to a VERY busy section of the Interstate. Traffic noise was VERY loud. The air conditioner was also VERY loud, but at least it helped to drown out the traffic noise a bit. Also a bit odd, the elevator was sweltering hot
I’d stay there again, but ONLY if I was able to specify a room on the east side of the hotel away from the traffic noise. Make sure your room is away from the freeway!

The pet rooms are awful blood stains on the carpet. I am so grossed out being in this so called Inn

Warning: this review is based on my experience in Room 203, YMMV in other rooms.
I was gonna give this place a 5-​star, but had to change my mind after I paid more attention to more details about the room. This location by the way is great, plenty of restaurants and fast food joints in the neighborhood within walking distance. The room itself smaller than other place I stay but it is clean and smell great. Flat screen TV, though channel selection pretty limited. Not a whole lot of electrical outlet in the room. Shower head pressure pretty decent, better than other motel/​inn I visited. No up-​sell with internet speed upgrade, the standard speed (free) clocked in at 20 Mbps.
Now, on to the bad part. The toilet/​bathroom is tiny, I placed the towel right outside the tub so the floor wouldn’t get wet when I come out, seems to get in the way of the door swing all the time. The shower curtain smelled like feet too. It get worse, while the toilet seems to handle «the package» I unload pretty well, there’s water coming out of the toilet after flushing. And no, the toilet wasn’t overflown, the water was coming from between the toilet lining and the tile floor, it seems like the sealant between the toilet and the floor has worn off. The tub faucet pretty lose from the wall as well, my bet is the caulk also wearing out for sometime already as well. Luckily, this is my last day so I won’t have to worry about these too much.
Reported the problem with the toilet when I check out, and front desk promptly call maintenance guy to come in to take a look.
Word of advice: INSPECT your room after checking in, that way you may not get stuck with a leaky toilet.
Will I book at this Shilo Inn the next time I’m visiting WA? Perhaps, only if none of the problems I mentioned would still be there.

I am giving this hotel a four stars for the pool and exercise room alone. The have a really nice indoor pool that is heated well. Once you are done with the pool and spa sweat out your worries in both a sauna and a steam room or get your sweat on in the small but very adequate exercise room. Their breakfast is nothing to write home about but they do have a pretty good selection. We have a dog so we had to stay in the dog room. Rooms are pretty old but the beds were very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and nice. Will we go back? We have kids and they loved the pool it will be difficult to say no.

Refrigerator is good, like I mentioned in my previous review.
The Shower is bad. It felt like the shower head was only half working, and running my fingers on them didn’t help at all. The tub drain was really clogged, as well. I talked to someone who stayed in another room, and their shower was bad, too. Not just one room!

The Spa was 100%
I’m recovering from some pretty bad surgical injuries and NEED the spa to be operational. When we arrived, like most places, the jacuzzi didn’t work and the sauna was cold. With a call to the desk and nice man came out and after minimal tinkering HUZZAH the jacuzzi worked! It looked dirty but only cause they colored it brown– bad choice, but it was clean and hot above average.
While that was happening the steam room was blissful! Ahhh… the steam room you get five stars. The sauna also has five stars for being clean and having an above average temperature range. The jacuzzi gets five stars also for being hot and wicked powerful bubbles and great jets. Shilo you lose a star for being tiny (sauna, steam, & jacuzzi) and having the shower with only cold water, a very poor decision. The pool was nice with a generous staircase adjoining the jacuzzi. The room was clean and quiet. We picked Shilo for the spa but mostly cause they let our pup sleep with us. He was super cozy and had nothing to bark at.
Thank you for making our trip so comfortable. Better than any other recently visited Shilo Inn.

On spot for the money:
Clean comfortable — we had a suite with kitchen and a king bed. It was a very nice room. Staff greeted us by name as we walked past the registration counter! The free breakfast was good and uncrowded.
We will stay here again.

The price was definitely right, only paid $ 90 for a room with a fridge and microwave. Had a huge king size bed and a queen.
The place is very outdated, but heck, I’d rather pay less for an old room personally.
The staff were super helpful. Very nice at the front desk. My friend and I wanted to use the hot tub at 4 am (yes, they keep their pool open all night, awesome!) and kept having trouble making the wet sauna turn on. The maintenance guy helped us out each time though, very cool.
I made this reservation during a local power outage, so I know this place was packed with people trying to get out of their dark houses. Even so, the hotel was very quiet.
Breakfast was pretty decent for continental, eggs, yogurt, 2 kinds of juice.
I would have given this place 4 stars except:
1. The ridiculous switch to the sauna being broken, and man, the jets in the hot tub sound like a plane taking off.
2. My room was not thoroughly cleaned, stuff was still in fridge, and a pair of pants was left behind.

Staff is great. Very polite, very neat, very ready to help out
Was here to judge horseshow at Tacoma Unit, so sometimes we come in tired, cranky & sweaty.
Was put on 4^th floor. Was like a mini suite: king bed, very well maintained, had a sort of kitchen w/​burners, microwave, stainless sink unit and pots, pans, dishes, etc. Was impressed.
Was not loud, bearing in mind that one day a work-​out group was there, as well as Army. Next day was Air Force.
Soap, shampoo, conditioner, coffee, all in place.
Complimentary breakfast is the low spot – lots of restaurants near.
Would stay here again easily.

stayed here for three nights for May 2010 grad. at U of Puget Sound. I do give the whole staff credit for tolerating a place full of some teenage girl soccer team who took over the whole place at every minute. Staff is very very helpful and patient and gave numerous travel directions. Breakfast is ok. However, yes the hot water DID run out in the shower with only two of us in the room. Did surprise me. My biggest criticism tho is that this is NOT a GREEN hotel. An hour away is Mt Rainier with melting glaciers and this place have NO recycling anywhere! No glass barrells, no plastic collectors, glass beer bottles had to go into the garbage. I actually called the manager about this and she said she would «look into it» like she had never heard of recycling!!! Incredible for a place like the Sea/​Tac area!!!

After checking into La Quinta in Tacoma and hating it (the air conditioning unit was the loudest I’ve ever heard), we headed up to Vancouver and left on a week-​long Alaskan cruise, and when we returned to Tacoma we switched our reservation to Shilo for a couple of days. While Shilo was marginally better, it barely missed getting a one-​star rating itself. AC was quiet enough to let us sleep through the night, but everything else sucked. On the first day we checked in after the four-​hour drive, our toddler (understandably) was running around excitedly in the room. About ten minutes later we got a call from the front desk asking us if we had a child running around. Turns out that the ceilings are so thin that he was «disturbing» people downstairs in the office and reception area, after we had specifically asked them to put us on the lowest floor possible! The shower was crap and kept going freezing cold every couple of minutes. The walls were thin too — enough for us to hear the idiots that returned at midnight cheering and laughing, as well as some freak in the room above pacing up and down, up and down their room. At $ 129/​night I’d almost rather have slept out in the rain for free. At least the room had a microwave and a mini fridge. I don’t know whether it’s the location or not, but I’ve stayed in FAR better places than this. Places that don’t turn your excrement into a Walt Disney’s Fantasia dance for five minutes straight using about fifty gallons of water before finally draining them away down a hole barely larger than a quarter, for example. Oh, and places that don’t have managers that saunter back into their offices from lunch with sweater-​wearing chihuahuas in tow.
