Description

Specialties

Northwest Spay & Neuter Center promotes and provides affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services for cats and dogs in an effort to stop the killing of animals due to overpopulation.

We operate an shuttle that provides free transportation for cats and dogs from communities around western Washington so distance doesn’t have to be a barrier that prevents clients from getting their pets spayed and neutered.

History

Established in 2008.

From its founding in 2001 through 2007, Peninsula Spay/Neuter Project facilitated over 10,000 spays and neuters of dogs and cats. This was done with a volunteer staff.

In 2008, PSNP opened the first low-cost, high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter clinic in the Puget Sound Region and changed its name to Coalition: HUMAnE (Humans United to Minimize Animal Euthanasia).

In 2011, our staff performed nearly 11,000 surgeries in just 2,400 square feet; it was time to purchase our own space. We rolled out a new name – Northwest Spay & Neuter Center – and brand to coincide with the opening of our new building.

Our new building boasts nearly three times the space of our old clinic and will allow us to perform up to 30,000 surgeries annually. We have individualized rooms for owned and shelter dogs, owned and shelter cats, and feral/free roaming cats, and a lobby with separate dog and cat entrances. Our state-of-the-art surgery suites are larger and designed for maximum efficiency.

Meet the Manager

Melanie R.

Manager

Melanie stepped into the role of Executive Director on October 14 and got right to work, learning the ins and outs of a high-volume spay and neuter clinic, and using her fundraising expertise to chart a course toward greater sustainability.

She is a board member of Tacoma Rotary 8, as well as the chair of the Military Affairs committee, and served on the board of the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County. Melanie has been recognized as a 2009 South Sound 40 under 40 honoree, honored as an Art Popham nominee for building community collaboration and spirit in the South Puget Sound, and in 2010 received a Woman of Influence award for the Puget Sound region.“Preventative measures can cut down on future problems, whether it is the health and wellness of a person, an animal, or an entire community,” she says.
