History

Established in 1946.

Calvin McClain started selling soil from the peat bog that became China Lake. During the creation of the lake he found a tunnel built by the Chinese slaves ending at Commencement Bay. Hence the name ‘China Lake’. Later he moved to the bog that is now the Fred Meyer near Snake Lake. In the late 70’s we moved to our current location where we enjoy being the only Family Owned and Operated Soil Manufacturer in Tacoma city limits.

Meet the Manager

Steve M.

Manager

A founding partner of A&M Services, a landscape material supply company formerly in Puyallup. Steve now manages operations with Mr. McClain. Although new to soil manufacturing Steve’s strengths are in product quality, customer service, marketing and contract sales. Both Owner and Manager are avid sports fans donating to local schools, teams and various youth activities.
