Judy’s Intimate Apparel

I have been here twice needing mastectomy forms and bras. First time right after surgery in 2009 and again just now. First visit I did not make a purchase as I was not happy with what they had to offer and really didn’t know yet how stuff should fit. I did make purchases this time however the form had to be ordered and they only had one of the bras I decided on. I came back purely out of need and convenience. This is the closest retailer available to me for mastectomy supplies, about a 40 minute drive one way and a bridge toll. I have been to Nordstrom which I will never go back to, they don’t have the expertise or supply, it’s just another finger in the money making pie for them. Been to Mary Catherine’s in Seattle which is ok. If you’re coming to Judy’s for mastectomy products make SURE you know what your insurance will or won’t cover before you go, and you have to be your own advocate when it comes to trying products. In my «fitting» I was offered exactly one bra and one form. The bra fit ok, I had to ask if there were any others to try. The form had to be ordered in the correct size, but then on my way home I’m thinking — huh, she only tried one form. My fault I guess for not asking to try another as they do not all fit the same. KNOW your insurance and do not let them tell you what’s covered. Got «we know cause we have to deal with this all the time» and «been doing this for 20 years». That may be but I was given incorrect information at the store (I was pretty sure of my coverage but doubted myself because they do deal with insurances), and even though they do deal with all sorts of insurances the coverage is not all the same and insurance is not their primary business. After all the phone calls and figuring of what they thought insurance will cover I do believe I was overcharged for my portion, but they should refund me. Agree with other comments about their return policy, they really don’t have one. It is posted, at least by their cash register. All in all I’m happy with what I got. Will I go back? Probably just because there is nowhere closer.
1−14−16 I will have to re-​think going here again. When I left on 12−31−15 the woman I talked with assured me they would have my insurance information, and have the two bras they ordered ready, and I asked if they could mail them. Just called to see if I can pick them up tomorrow as I will be in Tacoma, they haven’t even talked with the insurance! So they’ll need to do that first, could be a delay if they have to get a referral because this is the first time for me using this insurance, and they have to find out how to bill it! Good Lord! Thank God I had already talked with insurance so I know how this will work, and no referral needed. Now will have to call again in the morning to see if they’ve gotten the information. Feeling like I may as well just get them since I will have to pay for them upfront anyway and just file the claim myself! In fact they haven’t filed with insurance from a month ago! and I’m taking a star off!

Worst experience I’ve ever had at a bra store! I called Monday to make an appointment for the next day they said they would be busy but would pull some bras out for me to try on, gave them my size. Showed up Tuesday for my appointment none of the bras were in size I had told her, she gave me 3 different sizes. Mind you them being «busy» was 2 girls working and only one barely helping another lady while the other one sat at the desk doing nothing. One of the girls I believe her name was Kylie was extremely rude and acted as we were and inconvenience! Left the store immediately!

After seeing a friend use a Maya sling, I decided I might want to switch from the Moby that I used with my first to a ring sling. I did some research and decided Maya was a good fit. I went to the only retailer in my area– Judy’s intimate apparel– to purchase one in the right size, as I am six feet tall. When I walked in with my newborn, the sales associate immediately stated my baby was too young for a sling. When I explained that he met the weight requirement, she said I needed to better educate myself on the product (which I have been reading about for weeks). Then I asked to be sized. I was repeatedly told that it was «against the law» for them to show me how to use the sling. I asked if they had a user guide or something so that I could make sure I was using it right. They then said they couldn’t touch my baby, which I wasn’t asking them to do, I just want them to show me how to use it. They then put the wrap on me inside out, which I knew was wrong. I asked if I could buy the product and return it, but they did not know the store policy and said they were pretty sure I could not return it. When I asked how I was supposed to buy a product that I couldn’t try on there properly or return, they reminded me it was against the law for them to teach me how to use the product. I said I would go to another store (although there isn’t one in my town) they again told me that anyone helping me with the wrap would be breaking the law. As a forensic psychologist with a PhD, I’m relatively certain there is no legislation about teaching someone how to use a ring sling. Terrible service.

My experience here was okay.
The staff seemed nice enough but I heard them being a bit catty about a customer who had been in earlier and that was off putting. They also didn’t seem to have (or at least didn’t bring me any) nursing bras with band sizes smaller than a 32. I know that’s unusually small but that’s why I was in a specialty shop.
Most of the nursing bra options were pretty utilitarian and I like to feel pretty. When I told the lady who was fitting me what I was interested in (demi or balconette style) she said that most of the women who shop there aren’t looking for ‘something so… young’.
They only seemed to have full coverage options and kept bringing me bras without underwires. I feel uncomfortable in that much bra, typically and dislike the look bras without underwires tend to give. They did find me one pretty vintage looking bra that had a band size which ran small, thankfully.
So for me, the options were too limited and I didn’t feel very comfortable in the store but that is just my experience and if you are looking for a nurisng bra, like more coverage and want lots of options in that area, this would be a good store to go to.

I am a large busted nursing mom, and I have been struggling to find a nursing bra that is comfortable and extremely supportive. It’s been a frustrating and stressful road. I made a fitting appointment at Judy’s and the stress was lifted off my shoulders! I was fitted for my current nursing size, and was personally attended to until I found exactly what fit and had the support I was looking for. I sees up with a great daily bra, and even found a fun leopard print deep plunge nursing bra. I feel much more comfortable in my own skin after leaving Judy’s. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

I was struggling to find Maternity bras in my current larger (and somewhat rare) size, 32 I. I was referred to Judy’s by Around the Circle Midwifery and I am THRILLED to know of them now! They carry a large selection of bras in a wide range of sizes. You can make an appointment for a fitting (a nice woman will measure you, in the dressing room, with your clothes on or in your bra. My dress was thin enough that I didn’t need to remove anything. The measuring is fast and painless, anyway.) She brought me several choices in my size. I found the size and brands that seemed to work best for me. I got 2 bras for $ 108 (including tax. Online I was seeing bras for $ 70+ each.) The gals were helpful, informative, and pleasant to interact with. They also carry Breast pumps, breast pump accessories, as well as Baby Legs, and other maternity/​baby related products. (Oh, I noticed they have swimsuits in all different sizes and styles. I will definitely be buying my suit from Judy’s this coming summer.) The result is FABULOUS. My girls are supported! My profile looks 10 times better and my breasts don’t ache at the end of the day. My back, shoulders, and chest feel so much better. I wish I’d found Judy’s a few months ago when I thought the level of breast pain I was experiencing was just a part of pregnancy.
*They also carry bras/​supplies for women who have undergone a mastectomy and I overheard that some products are covered by insurance.

I called Judy’s today to get 3 appointments, one for my grandmother-​in-​law (who has difficulty standing for very long periods of time), my sister-​in-​law (who is special needs) & myself (in the market for a nursing bra). They were able to schedule all of us for the same day, much to my happiness & excitement.
We arrived a few minutes prior to our scheduled appointments, fully expecting to be there an hour or more. They got Grandma right into a fitting room & were not only very accommodating to her physical needs, but also her religious background (LDS). She was fit quickly, kindly and efficiently. While Grandma was being fit, my sister in law was called back. As I wasn’t sure how she’d react to being in the fitting room with a stranger, I asked to go back & they had no problem with that. She, too, was fit quickly and kindly.
After Sis was done, my turn was next. As I’ve not yet delivered, they were hesitant to sell anything to me as the fit would change after delivery. I got a sleep bra for the time being and not only did she help me with the bra I bought at her store, but helped my current bra to fit a bit better with simple adjustments to the straps & hooks.
We were in and out in about 45 minutes… 3 ‘different’ fittings in about half the time we were expecting. With our crowd, that makes a big difference!
I am very excited to have found this place! I’ve only been able to shop at one (very expensive) store prior because of my size (small waist, larger bust) and am excited to have found such a friendly & inexpensive option. The service is top notch and I’ve already been recruiting new customers for them by telling my friends and family about my experience.
I am certain that I’ll be back to buy my ‘official’ nursing bra & will most likely use them in the future for other ‘non-​nursing’ bra purchases!
