We booked a non-smoking room, our key cards didn’t work so we had to go back and get them reprogrammed. Once inside, we were punched in the face with the pungent stink of stale cigarette smoke. It was terrible and gave my husband and I a headache within 10 minutes. There were multiple nasty stains on the carpet as well. We tried to call the front desk, but the phone was disconnected. We used our cell phone to call the front desk and there was no answer. We tried a second time and the manager answered, offered to look for another room and to call us back. She was nice and helpful! They offered us a smaller«non smoking» room, but by that time I was done and already started looking for a new place. We also were looking forward to a King size bed. We booked a night at the Red Lion down the street for the same price. When we went to leave, they told us that they follow 3rd party cancellation policies, where Expedia’s policies align with the hotel company’s policy. Stalemate, thanks to HoJo. Expedia was nice enough to call Howard Johnson and try to get us our money back, to no avail. Waste of time, huge waste of money, stay away!

My family stayed here while we were in town for my grandfather’s funeral. We needed somewhere close to the rest of the family and this was the best choice as far as location and price. My husband and I stayed in a 2 room suite. It’s pretty clear that they just took two regular rooms, knocked out a wall and made two rooms. We loved this because it meant we had two bathrooms! One of the rooms had a large bed, TV, armchair and two night tables. The other room had a couch, armchair, small fridge, desk/chair and TV. We also had a very fancy jetted tub in one bathroom(we did not use the tub). This hotel is actually more of a 2*. There are weird carpet stains and very little attention to detail. The free breakfast was meh. The pool was green(not that I was planning on swimming, but it was June so other people may have been). The fitness center was kinda lame but did the trick in a pinch. But, I’m adding an extra star for the following reasons: 1. The two bathrooms were a definite plus. 2. Two bathrooms also means two luggage racks which is great because I do not put my suitcase on the floor. 3. Free WiFi throughout the entire hotel, not just the lobby. It angers me when hotels charge for WiFi in the rooms. 4. The air conditioning was COLD. My husband and I are both hot sleepers and we are usually roasting in hotel rooms during the night. Not here!!! For the first time possibly ever, I needed an extra blanket. 5. The fridge kept our water COLD. Like, almost frozen cold, which is so much can better than barely cooler than room temperature. 6. The staff was really friendly! If we found ourselves in need of a hotel in the area again and the suite prices were this low, we would definitely stay here again.

Great price for needing a place just to crash. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful on all 3 days, all shifts, including our 2am check-in. Free breakfast along with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker in room. Was very clean and comfortable. Pleasantly surprised.

Well, you get what you pay for. Fresh paint, but loose sink and bathroom fixtures. Crummy tile in the bathroom, and a big hole in the wall from the front door. The area is a little. Quite a few cheep hotels on the street. Ok breakfast, I don’t think they try very hard at all.

The hotel is very big. But the area seemed very run down, sometimes I felt unsafe especially at night and considering my room was all the way in the back near the freeway. My room was big clean and spacious. My sleeping pillow had a strange Oder. The TV set had more channels than other hotels I stay at.

Avoid!!! Horrible, the rooms weren’t as clean and overall it’s not as nice as advertised! Not such a nice area. Save a little extra and go somewhere else.

I had an appointment at Fort Lewis so I stayed a night. In comparison to other places I’d stayed at in the general Pacific Northwest, I found this place to be well worth the room rate. This was my first experience with Howard Johnson Inn & Suites, and I was highly satisfied. If I’m ever in the area again, this will be a first choice. Pros: — Friendly front desk staff greeted upon arriving and leaving. — Spacious, clean room with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and decent flat screen TV. Cons: — I was originally going to give 5 stars, but recall the smoke detector went off late at night after a hot shower(speculating the steam set it off).
