If you are looking for courtesy and professionalism, look somewhere else. I have had several business dealings with these people since the new ownership came in 2014 and have been left unimpressed every single time. They’ve not serviced my vehicles so I can’t comment on that. But I used to work with the previous ownership, Karen, and she and they were great. David the new owner is truly one of the rudest people I’ve had the misfortune of encountering. It’s also useful to note that the few positive reviews here on Unilocal came at a time when their was different ownership, prior to Feb. 2014.

These guys are Great and so are the few Women that work as mechanics that work there… Their fast and efficient…

Simply fantastic. We took our car to the dealership first for a loud noise and when it was discovered that it was an exhaust problem, the dealership recommended 38^th Street and I’m so glad that they did!
I arrived 15 minutes before closing and quickly explained the problem. The dealership had already called ahead, so they pulled the car right in and had it fixed in less than 10 minutes. The waiting room had a fun retro vibe. They were ¹⁄₁₀₀^th of the price the dealer would have charged. The whole staff was friendly and I didn’t feel like I was getting the stink eye for coming in so close to closing. I’d come back again, especially for any exhaust issues!

Gary and Karen have been kind, decent, polite, and extremely helpful for the past 4.5 years that I’ve been going to them for my auto service. I found their place the first month that I moved out and I’ve been going there ever since.
They remember my name, my car, things that are happening in my life. This is one of the rare, few places in which you feel like a human and a person while having your car worked on — they develop relationships and friendships, and that’s what makes them awesome. They’ve always been fair, and I cannot say enough good about them.

Shoddy service… with a smile. In preparation for a 3000 mile cross country journey, we had our SUV serviced and repaired at 38^th Street Service center.
It needed a break & rotor replacement, had a power steering squeal, and had a valve cover gasket leak. Although the price was comparable ($ 1500+) to other service centers, the workmanship and follow through were a horrible experience.
A week later, we still had the power steering issue. After another appointment, juggling 3 kids, and time out of the day, they fixed the issue… again.
Two weeks later we still had squeaky breaks but a phone call said it would sort itself out (a longer break in period was needed). I explained my concern with traveling cross-​country but they assured me it was ok… I wish I could replay that decision.
1400 miles into our journey, the breaks are still squeaking and now the «new» rotors appear warped. Sure enough, we had it checked out and the «new» rotors were warped and both the breaks and the rotors had to be redone. Much more time, hassle, and working through the warranty procedures.
During a follow-​up phone call, they did not seem to be concerned with their poor work, my family’s safety, or offering any sort of compensation for the repeated issues and time loss that we had based on their poor service.
We gave them a shot and not only lost a lot of time and money but they seemed unconcerned with safety. I cannot recommend them. Look elsewhere first.

The first thing we (My dad and I) did when we got to Washington with my car was look around for a mechanic/​service shop that we felt we could trust. There are plenty of options these days for reliable auto repair but the fact is, many of these facilities are still trying to milk every penny out of you that they can. The 38^th St Service Center is run by very friendly and knowledgable people, not to mention personable and hilarious, and they get the job done fast and well. While it is strange that they aren’t open on mondays, they make up for this by being open all day Saturday, which is an enormous help to me, as I rarely have time during the week to take my car in for whatever it needs. Since it is privately owned, it is certainly not going to be the cheapest place out there, but they are more than willing to tell you what problems are necessary to fix, and which can be put off/​avoided altogether without hard being done to your vehicle. They also have plenty of recommendations if you ever need heavy duty body repair, and are willing to send you in the right direction for the best price, not simply to the «guy they know» who will overcharge you.
*** Located next to a nice little teriyaki joint (can’t think of the name right now) that has good food and a nice bar while you’re waiting.
