New Garden is my go-to Chinese takeout restaurant in Syracuse. Their service is fast, their food is consistent, and ordering from grubhub couldn’t be easier. I like the steamed dumplings and cheese wontons. Not much of a sit in place, but a great takeout/delivery(fast fast delivery!!) option.

I usually order my Chinese take out from New Garden because they deliver quickly and have good portion sizes for the price. The food itself is alright. I like to get the Szechuan chicken with rice but I do find that it lacks spicyness and flavor. Will I continue to order takeout from them? Sure. I’m happy with any Chinese takeout place that ensures prompt delivery and also fills up my belly.

With so many Asian restaurants I’ve reviewed, I’ll make my review more modular: PROS: — Willing to accommodate complicated orders! When you’re situated on a college campus, you’re bound to be swarmed by them. A few days ago, my 7 friends and I wanted quick Chinese food where we’ll cook our own rice but have the entrée made somewhere else. I called them up asking if they’d make a big tray of General Tso’s with the SAUCESEPARATE, and they were willing to do it! And for $ 35! What a steal. — The amount they give is generous. With the order we did above, each person only had to pay $ 5, with leftovers, wow. — Flavor was pretty decent, with the crispiness of the chicken being present. CONS: — Could use more seasoning on the chicken. You start to realize that these American-Chinese dishes are not as complex(DUH!) as their true Asian counterparts. They really rely on their sauciness to taste decent. — Lots of breading, but you still do get some chicken pieces.

I love this place even though they are short on the phone and forget certain details sometimes. My favorites include the pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef. I also love the ho fun!

I’ve been going to New Garden for over 7 years now. It’s hit or miss quality-wise. It seems to be under new ownership, maybe a new cook? Today I ordered a quart of sweet and sour chicken and a shrimp roll. The chicken is ok, but somewhat soggy and not crisp. The quality of the chicken inside is good though. The white rice is tender and moist– they never mess the white rice up. I order take out so I don’t deal with delivery, the food is quick, faster than Mc’ds, and it is always hot. The service is great too, they are always friendly and they remember me. Last time I had fried rice it was not so great, they seemed to change this, it is yellow in color now, not many veggies in it. This place is the best bet for Chinese in the Syracuse University area IMO.

Food was ok. Kinda bland. The rice tasted awful and came out of some industrial bin. It was cold and had a horrible flavor. The worst part was how disgusting this place was. Bugs and spiderwebs everywhere. The place hasn’t been cleaned in who knows how many years. Definitely lost my appetite and won’t be back.

I do not usually write reviews, but after my experience I felt that it was necessary. I have never, ever, received such horrible customer service. I called to place an order for delivery and had questions about some of the menu items. I was having a hard time understanding some of the things the workers was saying so I was asking for clarification so that my order would be correct. After literally 2 – 3 minutes tops on the phone, the employee began to get very noticeably annoyed. At this point I asked her«what is the problem?» She screams(and I’m serious when I say she screamed) and said«I BEENONTHEPHONEWITHYOUTENMINUTESFORONEORDER!» It had not been ten minutes at all but even if it had why would you speak to a customer like that? I proceeded to tell her that there was no need to talk to me like that, she was very rude, and that I would never be ordering from them. To this statement she responded«SO, I DONTCARE!». I was then hung up on

I ordered at 8:30. it is now 10:01. called twice to check in, was met with some sass. I was told the food was«on its way»(I live 5 minutes from the place by car, according to Google Maps). I asked for a discount and this is the response: «No discount, sorry, bye». Still waiting lol.

My favorite chinese place by far! They usually deliver within fifteen minutes of my ordering. And it’s always delicious. I love the pork fried rice combo and cheese wontons especially. Also pretty cheap.

While the food here is sometimes passable the service at this restaurant is atrocious. I placed a delivery order for one thing, received another and was told to go to the restaurant if I wanted to exchange it after being told by the management that, the mistaken order was what I ordered. The women on the phone was also not fond of talking about the mistake that was made on her behalf and instead thought it would be more appropriate to hang up on me, twice. This place is a sorry excuse for a business and I wouldn’t recommend it to even the most tasteless slob.

After several years in the neighborhood, and hundreds of orders, I feel like I’m experienced enough to offer a well-rounded review of the local Chinese options. I personally rank Westcott-area Chinese restaurants like so: 1) New Garden, especially if delivery time is an issue for you. They are quick. 2) Mr. Stirfry, especially if you’re ordering noodles. Best noodles in the area. 3) H.K. Takeout. Consistently good food, well-run, and I like that. 4) All the rest. Lee’s, Oriental Kitchen, Number 1, etc. No stand-outs in this crowd. So, with that in mind, New Garden gets 5 stars.

This place is a great specimen of a Chinese food take out place with 2 tables available. We actually ate at the restaurant. The food was fantastic. We got vegetable lo mien and a bean curd dish. Both were really super. The vegetable egg rolls were less good — under-cooked and relatively flavorless. Seems like a fluke tho given how good the entrees were. Initially the restaurant seemed to be staffed exclusively by 2 children at 11pm at night. However upon leaving we discovered that there was in-fact an adult in the back cooking the food.

While the food is sometimes passable, New Gardens consistently gets take-out orders wrong, and underestimate the time it will take them to deliver it. One time when I received the wrong item, I called and they said they would bring me the correct item. Then they called back and said that the cook had said he made the correct thing and they would not be bringing me anything. I gave them one more chance after this incident, but they gave us the wrong drinks(after an hour long wait for delivery). We will not be ordering from them again.

Fast, fantastic food and very happy with the service. Ordered: Chicken and brocc, hunan beef, cheese rangoon and sesame chicken. Amazing!!! We placed the order online and the food was delivered within the hour. They even called to confirm. Love it and will re-order very soon :)

Surprisingly, good. I was wary, good Chinese food seems hard to find. They had super fast delivery to boot.

I have eaten my weight in food from this place over the years. Their broccoli and shrimp is really good — six big shrimp, lots of broccoli, and about two pounds of rice. It will feed you for days. My newest obsession(transplanted from NYC) is veggie dumplings. We’re slowly working our way through the veggie dumplings in Syracuse. So far, this place is the best. Eight big dumplings that aren’t too doughy. You get some nice sauce with them — plus, a reusable container. When I’m too tired to cook, you can bet that dumplings from this place are on their way.

I m biased to this restaurant. I used to go to SU for 2 yrs before I moved to California for my internship. This is one of the places that my friends and I used to frequent every other day. The owner/chef and the chef’s son(who takes the orders) knows us very well. He knows what I order(mostly veggie fried rice with extra eggs/chow fun — thin noodles/vegetable chopsuey). This is a very busy being in univ. town and they food comes out very quickly. They have one of the best hot sauces I have ever had. I simply am not able to find better chinese places in CA and I definitely miss New Garden’s food.
