If the girl working here was just as sweet and flirty with female customers as she is with males, then it might be «Bi Lauro’s.» Whereas if she was obsessed with blonde British princesses who have tragically passed away, then it’d be «Princess Di Lauro’s.» And if she was a Math major, maybe«Pi Lauro’s.» Or if it was owned by one of the many critics of my reviews, it’d be more likw«Whi(the f**k do you have to write such long reviews full of pathetic weak attempts at humour, give it up bro) Lauro’s.» Or something. What to get: A Calzone with the best dough you’ll ever taste, the best fillings you’ll ever eat, the best Calzorgasm you’ll ever experience. What’s a Calzorgasm: You’re about to find out. Will I like it: Um, I don’t know. Do you like things that everyone in the world likes? For example, do you like sex? Do you like being told you’re amazing at something? Do you like when strangers are attracted to you? Do you like watching very hairy elderly men touch each other all over? Do you like when people in gas masks inflict pain on your personal areas? If you like all these things then you, like me, are normal. And you will like this Calzorgasm. Yes. If they sold interactive video games it’d be Wii Lauro’s. Di Lauro’s is the single best Calzone I have *ever* eaten in my life. The best dough, the best filling, the juiciest, the overall tastiest… it’s too good to put into words. It’s my favourite food item in all of Syracuse and the CNY region, and that is saying something because Tang Flavor and Strong Hearts alone provide very fierce competition. If they sold winter sports equipment it’d be Ski Lauro’s. My experience, in a nutshell(or a doughy Calzone shell, in this case) was as follows: I search Unilocal.I find Di Lauro’s. I drive for 2 hours. I get there. I pull up. I park in a no parking zone. I get out. I walk in. The girl behind the counter(who may have been high) tells me to get pepperoni, not sausage. I get it. I pay. She giggles. I walk to my car. I get in. I open it up. I take pix. I bite into it. And then… (silence) The orgasmic and obscene nature of what happened next cannot be written on Unilocal. But there were more photos involved and there were loud, shocking noises that would make an adult movie star blush, echoing from inside my little car and off the walls of the buildings on the streets of Syracuse for several minutes. If they sold guns to serial killers, it’d be Spree Lauro’s. There is a reason every review but one is 5 stars. It was *ridiculously* good, a huge amount of perfect dough, of melty ricotta and stringy juicy mozzarella and perfect sauce and spices and greasy pep… in fact the whole thing was dripping orange grease all over me and my car and my boyfriend(oh crap I gave it away again, I meant my gf… er, my kitten… er, whatever. I mean upholstery), so if you’re not into grease, skip it? If the amazing price(under $ 4 for a calzone) was even more amazing, and they gave their Calzones away, it’d be Free Lauro’s. To say it was the best Calzone I’ve ever eaten would be an understatement. It was one of the best things of any type from any country I’ve ever eaten. It has the perfect dough, the perfect fillings, the perfect squirty piping-hot blissful juiciness, and the perfect taste. You must come here. You must bite into a Calzone for under $ 4. You must feel its hot juice squirt right down your throat and fill your mouth. You must experience this pleasure which I have experienced. I can die happy now. Thank you Di Lauro’s. Thank you Calzone gods. Thank you Unilocal. Thank you giggly possibly high girl. You’re awesome. I heart you. Garland says: They have another Di Lauro in a small town out West that doubles as its Sheriff’s office. They call it «Di Lauro-und Here» And if you just stop in here for a p*ss, then it’s Wee Lauro’s. Except they don’t have a problem. So you may have to pee in a corner. Or in a Calzone when the girl isn’t looking(or when she is, if you’re an exhibitionist). And you know what. The Calzone would probably *still* taste good. Yes, it’s that good. But please drink a bunch of water beforehand so as not to prove me wrong. There’s a good boy. Girl. Whatever. Maybe I’m the one who is high?

We ordered a cheese and mushroom pizza and waited about 12 minutes for a hot, fresh baked pie. It was well worth waiting. We were hoping to eat in but it is carry out only, which was fine. We decided to try this pizza as everyone on Unilocal rated them very high! We were not disappointed except that we couldn’t ravage it there at a table! The crust was light and airy, the sauce was flavorful and there was a generous amount of cheese and mushrooms! For the road we bought little pocket calzone-like sandwiches called Di Lauris. I was told that the difference between them is that calzones have mozzarella and ricotta cheese in it and Di Lauris just have the mozzarella. My husband wanted the sausage and I wanted the pepperoni! If it’s anything like their pizza, we are in for a delightful snack for the road trip home!

We were on a cross country road trip… We stopped in Syracuse because my wifes Dad was born there about 90 years ago. As we drove through«Little Italy» we asked where to get a piece of pizza, because the canoli bakery didn’t have pizza. Eureka! It was one of those Aaahhh moments. It was like eating silk and butter!!! Absolutely the best tasting dough and flavor of the cheese. We had a *calzone they call DiLUNA… like the shape of the moon… stuffed with so much Italian Sausage… and another Spinach … OMG… I would drive cross country just to have another DiLauro moment…

Di Lauro’s Bakery has been in Syracuse for over 100 years, so they must be doing something right. I love me some bread. I’m pretty sure I could live with just eating bread and olive oil for the rest of my life. Di Lauro’s bread is particularly good. Nice and chewy and perfect for sopping up plenty of leftover sauce. I haven’t compared Di Lauro’s and Columbus bread, but you can’t really go wrong with either. I also ventured to try the calzones and dilunas. The sausage calzone was decent. End to end filling is nice, compared to some other calzones I’ve had where there is several inches of just dough on either side. The sausage filling was a little odd, but it still tasted OK. The only problem here is that they sit inside the glass counter for a while before you buy one. I’m sure a fresh calzone tastes much better. But for the price, they are actually a good deal for lunch. I’ll probably make Di Lauro’s a regular stop since it’s very close to Lombardi’s, which I stop at every week.

Oh, where do I begin to collect my thoughts after eating a divine calzone from Di Lauro’s. I feel like I am still in a post-coital err. post-calzone euphoric haze. If you just want to read about the calzone and nothing but the calzone, scroll down to the 5th paragraph. After waking up late on a Saturday morning and invigorating myself with Colombian coffee, I just had to eat at an Italian bakery. I have been to Columbus bakery and their deli and wanted something different. I was drawn to DiLauro’s with the expectation of having 2 slices of pizza. I always like high quality pizza ! I drove to the beautiful intersection of Division and Lodi and parked in front of the bakery entrance on Lodi. Did I really want to leave my car here even for a few minutes? I rationalized that no part of Syracuse is pristine, new and polished. Besides, I’m here for the food ! So, I opened the door to the bakery expecting to see a vast open space but, I only encountered a small, cramped area with display cases. There were three people in front of me and I could not get around them to see the full display of their offerings. I would just have to wait until they made their purchases and moved on. And am I glad I waited !!! I could easily see the variety of Italian loaves, bread and rolls. I also caught a glimpse of the pizza I so wanted. The pizza was in a frightening glass display warming case on rotating trays. No, that is a bad sign. As I got closer to the pizza case, I could sadly see it was not fresh and was past its prime. Just past the pizza, I found them !! A case full of calzones all obviously made lovingly by hand, baked to a beautiful brown and hopefully full of delights. There were at least 4 varieties of calzones but the sausage, red pepper and onion had me at first sight. The display case indicated that it was a heated case and I thought I would be taking my chances on the freshness and quality of the calzone if it had been sitting for a long time. Was I ever wrong ! After paying for the calzone and one round roll, the damages were $ 3.50. Wow, this was some bargain! I got the calzone and bread to my car and decided on the roadside dining option. One has to eat when the calzone is hot ! I unwrapped the foil covering and exposed a single portion sized calzone. For $ 2.90, this is even better than I expected. It was still very warm to the touch and the crust was neither hard or soft from extended heating. The crust was so nicely browned and the edges crimped and sealed by hand to form a beautiful rustic looking package. I quickly took some pictures but, lunged at the chance to have my first bite. The crust was fresh, firm, moderately crispy and perfectly chewy. Many calzones look large and puffy and have a lack of fillings. The exterior shape of this calzone represented what was honestly contained within. There was no dead air space. This was one powerfully full calzone. There were no nonsense spices, herbs, or exterior decorations. This was full of decadent, stringy and truly flavorful mozzarella in each and every bite. I hit the pocket of sausage, pepper and onions and was delighted with ecstatically fresh perfectly complimentary flavors. This is a jewel of a place !!! I took some further pictures and finally finished the most heavenly calzone in my life. Something so simple, made at the same location for more than 100 years had just transformed my day and my view of Syracuse. How do I top this one?

This place makes the best bread I’ve had in Syracuse(though I guess I can’t speak for the«flat bread» whatever that is) and also has reasonably-priced calzones and slices of pizza that are damn good.

Love the bread. The pizza kits are way more tasty and a better value than ordering pizza. Love to get rolls from here and some brats from Lieh and Steigerwalds. Now that’s a good summer cook out.

Great little shop with a lot more choices of bread than some of the other bakeries in the area. They also bake pizzas.
