Specialties

The Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter is the only organization in our region dedicated to the elimination of Alzheimer’s disease and the support of individuals who have been diagnosed with it.

History

Established in 1982.

The Chapter was founded in August 1982, the result of a local community seeking more information about Alzheimer’s disease. A group of medical professionals and human services leaders, concerned about the unmet needs of families dealing with the disease, held an informational session about Alzheimer’s disease. They expected 50 people to attend. More than 200 packed the room. A local organization formed and began offering support groups, educational programs and a telephone information line soon thereafter, and in 1983 was adopted by the national Alzheimer’s Association.
